Do you let your dog piss up someone else’s bin?

Every week when we put the bin out ready for collection, our ring doorbell picks up the same neighbour who lives round the corner, let their big ass dog piss up our bin. Would this bother you and would you say something?

I don't have a dog, but I don't think I'd care if dogs pissed on my bin. It's outside, I'm not going to smell it. Pretty sure foxes wee on it too. And cats (including our own cats). Basically creatures are likely to be weeing on all kinds of things around our garden.

OneZanyPoet · Today 00:46

Trying to work out how I would know a dog had pissed on my bin. Perhaps when I crouch down to admire its fragrant aroma after dropping off a bag of used tissues, vacuum cleaner dust and raw chicken packaging?

Villanousvillans · Today 00:50

It really annoys me when dog owners let their dogs wander onto front gardens. A neighbour allowed his dog to shit in my front garden. I used one of my dog poo bags, picked it up and hung it on the neighbour’s front door handle.

Lifeisforliving12 · Today 08:47

It would annoy me too. Unfortunately some dog owners have this sense of entitlement. I’m not anti dog, just anti entitled irresponsible owners. We had a neighbour who would let his dog wee on our car wheels. We caught him and challenged him. His reply was it’ll wash off! I said well my toddler is not fully toilet trained so next time he needs a wee I’ll let him do it in your garden path, but don’t worry as it’ll wash off! It soon stopped.

MissMoneyFairy · Today 08:50

You know who it is, I'd be putting the bin in a different place then wait for them to try and tell them not to use your bin. Let it piss on its own bin. I've seen someone just stand there whole their fog pisses on our front shrubs.,

jimbort · Today 08:56

I don’t think it’s reasonable. We get frequent storms and have to take the bins inside so it’s just not hygienic. I normally put mine in the garage but not everyone has a garage or a shed. It’s better if I’m able to put it in the porch. Also some people pay to get their bins cleaned. Why should someone have to clean this when it’s completely avoidable with the way you control your dog.

Tessasanderson · Today 09:49

I have a couple of dogs and when i walk them on recycling day (To the big nature reserve nearby) its a pita keeping them from pissing on everyones bins. I dont think its fair on someone to handle them after my dogs have pissed on them so i dont let them. I do see plenty of others though.

Walls, car wheels, bushes i dont care. Bins i just feel they are picked up and handled so no.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · Today 10:27

Wtf should a bin owner have to throw a bucket of soapy water over their bin because some dickish dog owner decided that their dog could do what they liked? Maybe the dog owner should carry some spray and a cloth round with them?

This stuff is what is making dog lovers like me really dislike dog owners these days.

I agree, let your dogs piss and shit on your own property and garden if you can't be bothered to clean up.

Moltenpink · Today 10:39

No, I don’t let my dog wee on bins, cars, houses, wooden fences etc. I take him on the route from my house with the most possible lampposts and hedges.

Itiswhysofew · Today 10:45

No, I dont allow that. I'm aware that some people & shopkeepers might have to take their bins through their property. I actually don't like dogs peeing in the street at all.

In some countries, dog walkers have to bring a cleaning solution with them to spray where the dog has peed.

Exactly. I don't have a dog because I don't want dog mess, piss, smell, shit and fur and general fucking dog dander all over my house and garden. I don't want some other person's dog's shite all over my property.

And no, they're not the council's bins, they're MINE. No-one else uses them, they're in my garden, I use them, and I clean them, so they are MINE. I pay for them via my council tax, and an extra £60 a year to have the green bin emptied!

I even see people (when they think I'm not looking) let the dog piss up my gate post and fence! Keep your dog AWAY - go and let him piss all over YOUR property!

And don't even get me STARTED on the amount of times I walk around the village and the surrounding country lanes and see DOGSHIT all over the place! Seriously, you should have to do a 3 year degree course at University to own a dog!

Lalepa · Today 11:14

I have to bring my bin through my house as there's no space in the front, down some stairs so I end up bracing it against my body so it's gross if a dog has weed on it. I pour neat bleach on the outside to deter pests so it's probably not a good idea to let your dog next to it.

Harhar · Today 11:15

Do some of you get upset by dirty bins? It’s hard to tell.

stargirl1701 · Today 11:16

I don’t let our dog do this but I wouldn’t mind if someone’s dog did it to our bin. It rains constantly. The rain will wash it off.

It's foul isn't it @peonysinthesunshine

We put our bins out on the public footpath (30 feet from our front window, and not at the foot of the driveway - as the driveway is at the side of the house in front of the garage, so we can't see the bins from the living room window.)

We put them on the path in front of the living room window because people don't let their dogs piss up the bins - because we can SEE them. Same with the recyclable tubs. I put them full view of the window.

I caught some cheeky cow letting her fucking mutt piss up our blue cardboard bag some months ago - when it was at the bottom of the driveway. She didn't notice me at the top of the drive, and she was standing there while he pissed all over the bag with the cardboard in. I said loudly 'errr, hello!' She saw me, and jumped out of her skin, and yanked the dog away and ran.

Stupid cow. After that, I started putting everything where I could see it from the living room window. Filthy skank probably lets her dog shit all over the pavements too and never picks it up. It's dog owners like her who give all dog owners a bad name.

What a delightful person you are! Full of warmth and kindness towards your fellow humans.

AEIOYOU · Today 11:17

It's disgusting. Some people have no shame or decency. Yes I'd say something!

Princejoffyjaffur · Today 11:18

I actively encourage mine to do it

Well perhaps her fellow humans could behave like responsible people and not absolute mongrels.

Dearg · Today 11:20

I don’t let my dogs pee on bins, it’s just manners really. It’s pretty easy to tell which bins have been pee’d on - you can see the streaks.

If my bin has been pee’d on I rinse it with a bleach solution, that seems to deter them.

But for all the female dog owners saying their dogs can’t do this - trust me, my female labrador can contort herself into positions where she over-marks a male. She’s very agile 🙄

PawMaw · Today 11:21

It's vile, I don't allow mine to pee on bins, fences or cars but I have witnessed other dog owners allowing it. Fair enough if they were distracted (well not really as you train them not to at all) but actively watching them do it!

Noodge · Today 11:21

I have a female dog but I used to have a male and once they decide they're going there's not much you can do about it. But having said that, I honestly could not give less of a bother if someone's dog weed up my bin. Do you bring your bin into your living area? Or enjoy sniffing it? 😯

MrFluffyDogIsMyBestFriend · Today 11:21

I always pick up poo (even if it's just in a field) but I can't say I've ever given wee much thought. Male dogs wee everywhere and it's never occurred to me that some lunatic would be watching from behind their curtains waiting to pounce!

This bottle of spray is such a good idea. I've seen this either in France or Spain. So civilised and it stops other dogs smelling the piss and then marking it with their own.

I wish it were the law here. I hate to see dogs pissing all over property.

Should the degree be dog-specific? Because I do have a psychology degree but that obviously didn't work because I still let my dog wee wherever he likes. Please could you advise me on a degree that includes a module on dog walking etiquette? Thanks.
