I’ve just seen that the Hantavirus is in Liverpool?! They’ve been brought to Liverpool? I’ve got a 2 day work conference there and now I’m worried 😢 I suffer terribly with health anxiety. AIBU?

I beg your pardon? The north of England is absolutely beautiful! Far nicer than filthy London! Where I live is an AONB! (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and I’m much further north than Liverpool. Watch your words please and have some bloody respect.

Oh yes…because the British Isles consists entirely of “The North” and London. Nothing else exists outside of those two areas 🤣🙄

Shortbread49 · 12/05/2026 18:37

Yes it’s so grim up north especially on the Wirral

Calling it 'filthy London' makes you just as much of a bigot btw.

Bjorkdidit · 12/05/2026 17:35

Nah. Pictures like that just reinforce the idea that 'the north' is all wasteland with no jobs, culture or diversity and there's parks in London so no-one needs to venture outside for wildnerness or nature.

So youre all hating on London because someone - who may or may not be FROM London insulted the North. Right. Nice.

Focacciaisyum · 12/05/2026 18:47

FWIW I'm from London and love it here. I also really loved most the northern places ive been although I havent been to.many. Lake District, York, Leeds. All great. I got a bit if a weird vibe in the Dales but maybe ive seen too much American werewolf in London 'dont go onto the moors' (yes I know that was meant to be the Moors)

RampantIvy · 12/05/2026 20:56

I'm from London, but now live in Yorkshire, with this on my doorstep. I prefer here to London.

This this this!!!!!! 😢 I don’t understand either

Of course you reply to the one post similar to your extreme thinking and ignore all the many, many posts explaining why you will be fine.

I couldn’t live like this. This over arching anxiety must be ruining your life OP. Get some help.

They’re not only isolating for 72 hours. They are in isolation at Arrowe park for at least 72 hours and then they’ll be taken to their homes to isolate further. It’s not guaranteed they’ll leave the hospital after 72 hours, and the isolation at their home will be monitored (as it was with swine flu).

it’s different with Covid. Covid had thousands of people isolating at any one time and was impossible to contain - the first returnees from China were successfully quarantined at Arrowe park

Elsewhere in the world, they are isolated in facilities for weeks, and quarantine at home later is strictly monitored. Those in the UK are not even legally obliged to stay home once released. It's ridiculous.

mumstheword1x · 13/05/2026 05:55

So I’ve just seen that the 72 hour isolation period in Arrowe park is being released today. They arrived at 9pm, so I’m assuming they’ll be there until atleast tomorrow. I’m due to travel home at 9:30am I pray I don’t cross paths with anyone.

They’re in a specialist isolation unit at a hospital on the Wirral, there’s a nice big river between there and Liverpool

Who’s small and furry and capable of swimming across rivers? 🤔

As people have already said, it’s been confirmed they will not be travelling home on public transport.

Stop it.
Just stop it and give your head a wobble.

You know perfectly well that they won't be using public transport. Nor will they be wandering around in public looking for a conference to gatecrash.

Please be rational about this and stop making up unrealistic scenarios. It isn't going to happen. It is far more likely that someone you work with will have a cold or may be incubating covid or chicken pox.

WonderingWanda · 13/05/2026 06:08

mumstheword1x · 11/05/2026 20:02

But it says they can be let out in 72 hours which will be when I’m at the conference 😢

Try to avoid licking them in that case.

Focacciaisyum · 13/05/2026 06:22

Im not sure why everyone is so relaxed here really. Frankly the OP has a point. No, she is no more likely to be coming into contact with them in Liverpol than anywhere else BUT they are being sent home tomorrow and asked to stay indoors for 6 weeks. Thats it. As far as I can tell there is no legal requirement for them to do so. No civid style £10k fine. Just 1 phonecall a day which as most people dont have a landlines will be to their mobile probably and they can answer anywhere.
So the only protection to the country AGAINST the potential for future lockdowns is just trusting these guys to do as theyre asked for 6 WHOLE WEEKS. No popping to the shops for some bread, no I'll just go for a quick coffee since I feel fine and its been 3 weeks etc.
I dont feel reassured at all to be honest
But OP you wont see them.on ymtheir way home. They're not allowed to use public transport to GET home. After that, there's nothing to stop them though.

I’ve not seen what type of transport they’ll be using though? It’s very blazayyyy

I wasn't really concerned, until I saw how easily it spread in the Andes in 2018.He infected someone after just briefly walking past them, and a couple who were sat a few tables away.

That was the same strain they think was on the cruise ship.

Why are you making these poor people’s suffering all about you?

Indianajet · 13/05/2026 06:37

I am beginning to think the OP is making it up - the people in question will not be travelling to Liverpool by train/boat any other form of transport to find you and infect you. Do you imagine they will be thrown out on the street and left to go where they please? You know they won't, so stop being ridiculous.

nomas · 13/05/2026 06:35

Well it is about everyone really if it WERE to spread. Do you want another lockdown? I dont. Its a lot easier to quarantine 20 odd people (who are probably retired to be able to do a cruise like that so dont likely have kids to look after ir work ti get to) than it is to do a big lockdown in 3 months time.

They will be taken home. Then they'll be left to do as they please so she's not that far off tbf.

4thedex · 13/05/2026 07:03

Bloody hell, plenty of us wirralians here isn’t there? Or wools/Jedis if you’d prefer 😁

I was at arrowe park last week with DD, it has a John Lennon themed superlambbanana outside the women’s & children department and she’s been trying to say super lamb banana since, but she’s 2 so she’s furious when people don’t know what she’s saying.
