The Left have a become a snivelling self-righteous mob, busy bodying around, trying to shame others

I read this quote and it encapsulates exactly how I feel

'I never thought I'd see the day when the Right became the cool ones giving the finger to the establishment, and the Left became the snivelling self-righteous ones going around shaming everybody'

AIBU to think this is what many people think these days? We didn't leave the left, the left left us.

*the quote is from John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten. He's deliberately provocative in lots of ways, but he meant this one. I fully expect some people to come on the thread to tell us all how he's a horror and said he likes Donald Trump. That would be them missing the point.. but.. Let Them..

Angry at billionaires?

What is this? Sixth form common room?

Is that the extent of your thinking? Let’s be angry at billionaires .

Evidently not the extent of my thinking. My point being that everyone is angry at migrants, and blaming them for the state of the country. I think it much more damaging that a small percentage of society hoard ridiculous amounts of wealth while most people are struggling to get by.

Would you like to address any of my other concerns about reform?

BIossomtoes · 10/05/2026 14:26

Northermcharn · 10/05/2026 12:38

Yep - that's the Greens, Labour, Lib Dems, and Reform covered. Let's be sensible and vote for the Conservatives at the GE

Edited

I might actually have to hold my nose and do that at the next GE if Reform gets much more of a hold round here, it would be the only way to beat them.

Ok, go ahead. How does that help. As I asked. The billionaires are leaving, how much richer are you as a result?

If they all left, do you think you will be richer.

That ship long sailed. Most people are not voting with this bitter, angry mob. Which is making them even more bitter and angry.

No don't just compare what I said to something horrific like ignoring black people. That is just so disingenuous and makes you look like a lunatic.

Well all know the type of people I was talking about. The kind of white working class that are obsessed with football, usually work in manual labour jobs and have copious amounts of St George's flags all over their council house. I was not talking about every person from the white working class community, there are plenty of decent hardworking folks that are a real shining beacon for humanity.

Well at least you’ve gone full Emily Thornberry not hiding behind ‘ill informed’ or ‘thick’. May as well describe the people you mean.

Northermcharn · 10/05/2026 14:46

Because the Tories were so brilliant at not being “shitty self serving, finger pointing groups of people who have no idea how to run a country & plan for a long term future” over their 14 years?

Interestingly, cardi, in 2015 Labour had an excellent chance of taking power didn’t they. Had the right brother been leader, they probably would have won. Sadly the snivelling back stabbing worst lefty of all, Ed Miliband had already fcked it all up. He fcked it all up by being the worst kind of person, a lying narcissistic back stabbing little shit (to his own brother at that). Using the unions like the manipulative person he is.

And for what? His brother would almost certainly have won the GE. But no. We had Ed and his big stones. Then we got Cameron and the rest is history. Then 2019 Labour far left seemed to think putting Corbyn up for election was a good idea. Again fail. They haven’t learnt a thing. Conservatives were in for so long because Labour - because Ed Miliband- because Corbyn. And even though they swept to power in a landslide just 2 years ago (due to how bad the tories were after so long in power), Labour now have just been humiliated at the local polls .. because Starmer. Do you see a pattern?

I don't see any replies from you to this particular poster, no counter arguments or denunciation of the views being expressed. Someone openly talking about subverting democracy and disenfranchising white working class people didn't bother you much apparently. You replied to me very quickly though. Interesting.

Yes. One gets the feeling that poster was saying what the others really think but can't say aloud. They'd deny it til blue in the face of course. Or red.

Why do you think anyone who is a centreist or centre left think unfettered immigration is fine and dandy? I don’t and neither do the current Labour gvt- however I am pro EU as it worked both ways and to be frank I’m not sure these days that many would be rushing here . It was the Tory’s who allowed ridiculous amounts of 3rd world immigration post Brexit , complete with families in tow - I know as I worked at one of the places they had immigration processing centres . I’m sure it was partly to leave Labour dealing with consequences as by then they knew they were toast - these very same people have top roles in Reform-

Smeuse · 10/05/2026 14:53

Fear mongering

Open borders, unlimited immigraton

Brexit was the same, remember Farage and that poster?

harrassedmum · 10/05/2026 14:58

Farage and co literally are the establishment! How anyone can think otherwise is baffling

Blimey. You accuse ‘the left’ of being self righteous and insulting then unleash a tirade like that against a man who has done you no harm, and in fact seems both rather decent and a good politician. I think you’ve properly undermined your own thesis there.
Very aggressive post considering what you were responding to - and pretty much off topic too. How odd. And defensive. And what was that about the left shaming others?

I’m not required to respond to every post. Another poster was in discussion with that poster and doing an excellent job at refuting her. I sent her thanks and agreement responses. But obviously I’m a horrible person because I chose not to weigh in myself. What was that about the left being self righteous and shaming people again?

I would describe myself as 'old labour' and certainly don't think unfettered immigration is a good thing (and, incidentally, isn't what's happening - net migration has fallen from close to a million to under 200k in the last couple of years).

Questions around how many people are in the country, where they come from, what skills they have etc. are really complicated, and cut across everything else - pensions, healthcare, economic growth etc. It's been done to death, but one key factor is that our low birth rate, combined with people living longer, is stressing state pensions, the NHS and a few other things.

'Importing' people so that that demographic makeup changes has worked in some ways but not others. I'm not daft enough to think that cultural integration is a non-issue, but some of the frothing about (particularly) Islam, under cover of 'legitimate concern', is old-school race hate straight out of the 1930s play book. How on earth has this become our main political football when there's so much else going on.

I agree. This was a really venomous, hypocritical and frankly weird post.

Talk about undermining your own main argument.

AntiRacistFella · 10/05/2026 15:04

Why do right wingers often think "the Left" (often written with a capital letter L) is single monolithic bloc - not a diverse group of people with different views, perspectives and opinion, and disagreements among themselves? Obviously the same applies to right and centre.

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 10/05/2026 15:06

If openly racist, misogynist and ableist is cool now then I'm very happy to be uncool.

Gosh. A man who has done me no harm? He's the reason Lab didn't win at that pivotal point, and he is pretty much the reason we had a brexit referendum. If you can't see what he's done, I can't help you. And let's not talk about his recent energy shambles and associated costs.
Of course you try to gaslight, it's what the left do. I am used to it now and it's water off a ducks back. The truth doesn't change. Wonder where his big important stones are now.

He’s made you be a right winger? How odd. No, he isn’t the reason for Brexit. The arrogance of Cameron and Brexit voters gave us Brexit. You can’t blame it on Miliband I’m afraid.
And again - self righteous and shaming people. Isn’t that what the left do, according to your OP and thread title?
Edit: I’m not sure what you think gaslighting is, but it’s not my post.
