AIBU to feel unsettled by DH telling me about his soulmate dream?

Feeling a bit odd.

Came home this evening and getting dinner ready in the kitchen and Dh came into the kitchen with a weird look on his face and said he had a really weird dream last night. He started to say it, then kept looking hesitant and stopped saying it, so I said ‘Go on, what was it?’ (thinking please just get on with it, whilst putting food in the oven and rushing around.
He said that he dreamt that someone or something was saying they’d found him his soulmate and the person he’s connected to and that then this man a woman (I think) then started hitting him really hard with shoes and all sorts with really nasty faces
It was just a really odd thing to come and tell me…literally straight away, not after other conversations and then ‘Oh god yeah I had this awful dream last night’ and also talking about a soul mate? What am I, chopped liver?!
I said (a bit angrily) why was he dreaming about a soul mate and he stormed off saying it was a dream

Is this weird? Feels very weird!

I think it was obviously a very frightening dream as seemed to really worry him, feeling strange right now though

Total over reaction on Your part

Just sounds like a weird random dream (as they are so often). Soul mates is a nonsense concept, I think you both just need to drop this tbh. It was a stupid dream and probably didn't need to be shared with anyone.

PfizerFan · 07/05/2026 21:43

I think he just wanted to tell you about a weird, unsettling dream he had ..

TappingTed · 07/05/2026 21:43

Sole mate maybe? Hence the shoes?

Do you think? He kept going on and on about this soulmate they’d found for him, just felt very strange

Why come to tell me straight away

Well i would be put out by this because I believe that there is always a reason for our dreams. That they are triggered by something that has happened or something that we are thinking about when we are awake.

Yes…It doesn’t sit right with me, why is he dreaming that and why telling me?!

He's sat on that all day as well

Were you huffing and puffing whilst making the dinner? Maybe he was just on the wind up

Because he was unsettled by it?
What is it you’re worried about? That he’s going to go off searching for his soulmate?

UnhappyHobbit · 07/05/2026 21:52

This would be concerning to me too OP. Especially if he is emphasising on how he found his “soulmate” in his dream and quite excited about that.

CountryQueen · 07/05/2026 21:53

If you find him knocking around the local Clarks start worrying 😅

No definitely not a wind up

Sounds demonic, seriously. Who or what was finding him this 'soulmate' that then proceeded to abuse him? Not a nice dream. Why is he dreaming that? Can't answer that one, not enough information. It's disturbing though, and he's telling you because he may be frightened by it.

That he had that dream and also saying that to me, I don’t know, I can’t explain, it feels strange

I’ve dreamt about cheating on and murdering my partner and having sex with my dad. Do you think people choose what they dream about? It’s a subconscious manifestation of things you’re thinking about, yes, but it’s not literal. I certainly wouldn’t choose to spend time thinking about those dream topics. You’re completely overreacting.

He kept hesitating to tell me as though it may bother/upset me I think, it has! Wish he’d never said it

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 07/05/2026 21:58

You’re a bit unreasonable. By dream logic, if his soulmate just beat him up with shoes and made nasty faces at him, that might mean you are going to hurt him!

Or it might mean someone is offering him something that seems really special, but is actually a nasty trick and will hurt and disappoint him.

Or it might mean he has a soul mate somewhere else, but that soulmate hates him.

Whatever it means, he came to his partner for a bit of tlc and told off.

MaCheCazzo · 07/05/2026 21:58

Dreams are inexplicable. Of course they are or there would be a definitive proven handbook. There isn't. There may be strands of something you've taken from the day but it's stretched and bent out of shape and mixed in with a shit-ton of other bollocks and nothing makes sense.
Sometimes dreams are really fast and intense - really intense. When that happens it's perfectly normal to tell someone about it. They can unsettle you and I'd expect my partner to be very comfortable telling me about that knowing I would never judge what is essentially a load of ethereal unintelligible bollocks.

I once dreamed that I was shot by Richard Whiteley. So I can assure you, you’re wrong.
