AIBU to feel unsettled by DH telling me about his soulmate dream?

Feeling a bit odd.

Came home this evening and getting dinner ready in the kitchen and Dh came into the kitchen with a weird look on his face and said he had a really weird dream last night. He started to say it, then kept looking hesitant and stopped saying it, so I said ‘Go on, what was it?’ (thinking please just get on with it, whilst putting food in the oven and rushing around.
He said that he dreamt that someone or something was saying they’d found him his soulmate and the person he’s connected to and that then this man a woman (I think) then started hitting him really hard with shoes and all sorts with really nasty faces
It was just a really odd thing to come and tell me…literally straight away, not after other conversations and then ‘Oh god yeah I had this awful dream last night’ and also talking about a soul mate? What am I, chopped liver?!
I said (a bit angrily) why was he dreaming about a soul mate and he stormed off saying it was a dream

Is this weird? Feels very weird!

No one really knows why we dream fyi. There are theories yes, but that’s all they are. I find it a little obnoxious you think you know my mind better than I do.

Obnoxious ? Seriously?

I was just wondering if there was some reason as to why you might have dreamt about Richard Whteky in particular!

Do you always take offense so easily?

I have a viewpoint abut dreams which I mentioned on the thread which you think is nonsense. You have made that clear , as you are entitled to do. Why the need to to take offence and be unpleasant?

"why was he dreaming that?" Obviously not by choice. But by the way the way you've reacted I'd say, subliminally he feels trapped with someone who others think is perfect for him but is nasty to him.

I’ve dreamt about cheating on and murdering my partner and having sex with my dad. Do you think people choose what they dream about? It’s a subconscious manifestation of things you’re thinking about, yes, but it’s not literal. I certainly wouldn’t choose to spend time thinking about those dream topics. You’re completely overreacting.

Yes to the dad sex dream. A combination of intense embarrassment and horror.

Don’t know where that came from, or the dream about finding my soulmate on a Brazilian sports team that randomly showed up in my grandmother’s house and were friendly but stayed completely silent, or the one where I was shot by arrows by a woman wearing a Native American feather headdress and the Muppets nightie I got for my fifth birthday.

Sounds demonic, seriously. Who or what was finding him this 'soulmate' that then proceeded to abuse him? Not a nice dream. Why is he dreaming that? Can't answer that one, not enough information. It's disturbing though, and he's telling you because he may be frightened by it.

I agree. Prayer would help.

Especially as the OP has said she too has had bad dreams of late.

They’ve probably both been eating too much cheese before bed. Far more likely to be something environment than ‘demons’.

It's simple enough to eliminate cheese as a suspect. Don't discount demons, they are very real.

Do you have proof?

Nothing you'd believe, I suspect.

I’d always believe concrete evidence, how could anyone not?

I'm a Christian and demons are included in Christianity as part of our theology. So my proof comes from the Bible. Of course other potential suspects (like cheese!) should be ruled out before jumping to conclusions, but it's a real possibility that shouldn't be ignored.

Butchyrestingface · 08/05/2026 09:20

Why is he dreaming that and why telling me?!

Because you told him to! You said he was hesitating and didn't want to upset you. You forced the issue.

What are you upset about anyway? That he's going to leave you for a soulmate who batters him with shoes?

Respectfully, using the Bible as ‘proof’ of demons is like saying Elizabeth Bennet exists because there’s a book about her.

You're entitled to your opinion, mine differs. 🙂

MrsOni · 08/05/2026 09:24

Dreams don't mean anything. They are just random images thrown up by your brain as it sorts information into memory overnight. Most of the time you don't even remember them. They are not cosmic messages or any other woo bullshit like that.

It is, however, common to have dreams which are unsettling and DH clearly had been unsettled by this one, so to just dismiss it when he was trying to talk to you about it and perhaps get a bit of emotional support is a bit dickish.

BauhausOfEliott · 08/05/2026 09:28

I don’t think you understand how dreams work.

Goldfsh · 08/05/2026 09:33

I'd be waking him up by bopping him with shoes

It’s not an ‘opinion’ to think that the existence of a book in which something is regarded as real is not proof of its existence outside the pages of said book.

Aluna · 08/05/2026 09:42

Presumably OP is the “soulmate” hitting him with shoes and making faces.

By her reaction the dream seems to be on point. 😄

Well Jesus cast out demons, his disciples cast out demons, the practise of exorcism has remained throughout Church history. If Jesus lied about demons, frankly Christianity has a lot more problems than the existence or not of demons.

Aluna · 08/05/2026 09:43

Enough cheese and demons people.

Ladyzfactor · 08/05/2026 09:44

Dreams are not logical or based in any suppressed desires. I literally had a dream that I had sex with the Pope once ( and disgustingly he was amazing). Trust me, I'm not secretly lusting after him (I'm gay as shit). I was really confused for the next day

I’m wondering if we’ve had covid recently maybe as i’ve also had a couple of really frightening dreams in the last couple of weeks-strange

Change the batteries in your carbon monoxide alarm or buy a new one

Atheists have no problem with this.

its perfectly possible to think that Jesus existed and had interesting and philosophical ideas about how to organise society - but that he was not a special spiritual person or in any way a ‘god’

A dream is a dream, the brain is a marvellous thing. Dreaming of demons doesn’t mean they exist. I’ve dreamt I can fly in the past.
