Will you stay up to watch the Election 2026 coverage (on BBC1 from 11PM and Sky News from Midnight)?

Follow along with me?

I'm a leftie, who has pretty much abandoned caring about politics but I can't let the habit of watching the coverage go!

I voted Green 💚 - and live in a safe London Labour seat.

Feel free to share who you voted for, who you have historically voted for, and the local party in your area

Nope! I need my sleep and it'll still be the same result in the morning. Plus I'm in Scotland and they're not even going to start counting the votes until tomorrow.

ThreeB · 07/05/2026 20:16

I’ll listen for the initial reporting but then setting the alarm for early to hear the first proper batch of results coming in

Shudacudawuda · 07/05/2026 20:18

No won't be staying up, work tomorrow so need my sleep.
I am quite excited to see the results though.

rubyslippers · 07/05/2026 20:18

Not going to share who I voted for but it certainly wasn’t Green
most results won’t be available until morning so not going to stay up and watch scrolling hours of nothing

Sirzy · 07/05/2026 20:18

I voted but won’t be staying up. I was on a school trip today so our classroom could be a polling station so nowhere near enough energy to stay up!

picking who to vote for was like a game of Eeny, meeny, miny, moe! I don’t want reform at all but the rest are as bad as each other just not as bad as reform!

AnnaQuayRules · 07/05/2026 20:19

No! I need to leave the house by 6.30am tomorrow to get to work. Most areas won't start the count until the morning, very few do overnight counts for local elections.

I've got an almost 2 hour drive to my office. It's the drive home that bothers me - almost all the results will be out then and I'll have to endure 100 minutes of listening to how Reform have done.

CelticSilver · 07/05/2026 20:20

Genuinely curious why you voted Green?

TopPocketFind · 07/05/2026 20:21

Voted but I never stay up for the local elections.

Fingers crossed our council stays Reform free.

Arlanymor · 07/05/2026 20:21

No because votes in Wales are not counted overnight.

If I was in England I would stay up for a General Election - and have done - but not for local.

AlwaysRightISwear · 07/05/2026 20:23

I usually stay up for a bit but do have to go to work tomorrow.

Skinnysaluki · 07/05/2026 20:23

I wish I could stay up but I’m too tired. If there is going to be an exit poll or whatever then I might last until 10pm before conking out.
Also voted Green.
I am keen to see whether Labour go into single figures of vote share. I think they might. I wonder what the odds are on that?

Wolmando · 07/05/2026 20:24

No. There won't be much will there, a lot of them are done tomorrow, it will be a long night

yetanotherusernameAgain · 07/05/2026 20:25

I thought I was in a safe London Labour seat but apparently the Greens are predicted to win a lot of seats.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 07/05/2026 20:30

I might just get up early tomorrow tbh.

For the first time in my life, I voted Tory.

I life in a historically safe Tory seat. I mean so safe there is literally a giant Conservative club which dominates the town square.

The voting intentions I have seen indicate it's now neck n neck Tory/ Reform.

Voting Green / Lab/ Lib Dem would essentially be a throwaway protest vote here. Plus, I am GC.

So Tory it is - weird feeling for me!

BH90210 · 07/05/2026 20:32

No but I am interested in the result.

Skinnysaluki · 07/05/2026 20:33

CelticSilver · 07/05/2026 20:20

Genuinely curious why you voted Green?

I can only answer for me but..

  • They have been good on the local council for a number of years and we’ve had a good green MP locally
  • I care for nature and the environment more than I care about many other issues and I want to see more rewilding, planting etc locally.
  • I’ve voted for them for 30 years with the exception of the GEs in 1992, 97, 2017 and 2019 and I’m a creature of habit
  • I like Zack Polanski, Carla Denyer, Ellie Chown, Sian Berry, Caroline Lucas and the new one from Manchester whose name escapes me- Hannah something?
Skinnysaluki · 07/05/2026 20:35

Hannah Spencer!

Piccolomaforte · 07/05/2026 20:37

No. It’s local elections, so I’m happy to catch up in the morning. I wouldn’t vote green as, while I’m not Jewish, I don’t much like ZP or anti-semitism. I’ll probably vote for local independents who work hard to improve our town.

Similar to my area and a lot of london zones 1-3 - i checked and the greens are projected to win here

chickenss · 07/05/2026 20:44

I’m expecting a reform win so I won’t be staying up, no. But I did vote and hope I’m wrong.

CelticSilver · 07/05/2026 20:20

Grew up on a council estate, proudly, so its the natural party for me - went green after Jeremy corbyn lost

mumofoneAloneandwell · 07/05/2026 20:47

I didnt realise the results dont work the same way as General election night - i usually last til about 3am but i'll tune into the first hour on BBC

Ill check out the election polls, good idea @Skinnysaluki

Wolmando · 07/05/2026 20:52

There will be a list somewhere of what results are expected when, to see if it is worth it for you.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 07/05/2026 20:52

Nope they won't even start counting in my area until 10 AM tomorrow! I also live in a very safe Labour area. I haven't voted Labour in 20 years - but now I am worried that I should have done so - to stop the Greens from winning!

GinToBegin · 07/05/2026 20:53

I stay up for GE results, but stay up won’t tonight, mainly because I don’t think there’ll be a lot in the way of results overnight. Interested to see how things pan out, even if I suspect I won’t much like the outcome.
