Follow along with me?

I'm a leftie, who has pretty much abandoned caring about politics but I can't let the habit of watching the coverage go!

I voted Green 💚 - and live in a safe London Labour seat.

Feel free to share who you voted for, who you have historically voted for, and the local party in your area

Nope! I need my sleep and it'll still be the same result in the morning. Plus I'm in Scotland and they're not even going to start counting the votes until tomorrow.

Same! But we’ve set up a TV in the office so we can watch along tomorrow and will open a few beers when it starts to get interesting around 3pm 😁

Feels very weird in Scotland with the count not happening until tomorrow and no exit polls!

Feeling weirdly anxious about it but nothing to be done but sleep and wait!

(Interestingly, the news tonight seemed to be trailing “record low turn out” in Scotland but this doesn’t tally with what we’ve seen on the ground in the constituency at all so… 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Looseweightlooseinterest · 07/05/2026 23:09

I voted Lib Dem’s in our area ,polling stations very busy. Am 🙏that the huge turnout was to override Reform winning! Definitely not staying up to see the results.

Ian beale is running for cllr on eastenders - enough said 😄

I haven't watched EastEnders since I moved out of my parents' house 16 years ago, Ian Beale! Which party is he standing for or is he independent? I thought the actor was living in a van or something and not on EastEnders anymore, pleased he's back

Nat6999 · 07/05/2026 23:12

No, the only result I'm interested in is our ward as ds is the Green Party candidate & the country isn't until tomorrow.

I might just get up early tomorrow tbh.

For the first time in my life, I voted Tory.

I life in a historically safe Tory seat. I mean so safe there is literally a giant Conservative club which dominates the town square.

The voting intentions I have seen indicate it's now neck n neck Tory/ Reform.

Voting Green / Lab/ Lib Dem would essentially be a throwaway protest vote here. Plus, I am GC.

So Tory it is - weird feeling for me!

My local elections are next year but I already wonder if I might have to do that. My constituency was once described by an independent candidate as somewhere the Tories could send a donkey and it would get in - this was true at the time, but that was before the rise of Reform. (Saying that, the one next to me used to be the same, but elected its first Green MP last time).

Since I would rather vote for the donkey than for Reform, it might reluctantly be Tory for me in the general when it comes around. Hopefully, the local independents will do well in my locals next year because they have done before ( I have an independent right now) and they're a preferable option.

I won't be staying up a) because I don't have an election here and b) I don't particularly want to watch Farage's smug face all night, thank you very much. I tend to watch a bit of the general coverage at night when that comes around but not all of it.

bellabelly · 07/05/2026 23:14

I'm staying up for a while - I love election coverage, even if it's all just hot air tonight until the actual results start coming through...
I live in a very right wing area, really hoping that Reform don't get in. This time, there wasn't even a Labour candidate on the ballot paper! I went Lib Dem as couldn't quite bring myself to vote tory to keep Reform out.

TheCurious0range · 07/05/2026 23:15

I'm really surprised to hear so many people voting green after all of the recent hoo ha with ZP. Is it because it's local not general?
I voted labour not really for the party but because my local labour councillor has been in post for some time and is great, really visible, lives in the community, understands local issues.

I generally live in a Tory area but last GE both local MPs went red for the first time in decades. I don't know who is blue for in a GE at this point.

SurreySenMum26 · 07/05/2026 23:15

I only stay up for general elections and only managed 5pm to see Jeremy Hunt was practically the only tory left standing.

I have three kids with SEN so you can guess who I vote for. Everything else in life means Jack shit if your kids don't have a shot at education, and avoiding a life where you can't live independently. I live in a lovely idilic little greenbelt village. But I'm worried about my kids future. Everyone has voted and nothing can change the results now.

He stood as an independent. Unfortunately, he won.

yummyscummymummy01 · 07/05/2026 23:19

Love election nights and did the count for the last general election. I like in a safe Conservative ward and voted Labour, so I doubt my vote made an ounce of difference. I’m in a London council that’s likely to change hands so definitely interesting but won’t wait up!

I'm in Essex, not Basildon but it wouldn't surprise me if Basildon went reform, Thurrock already has

Nigel came back, has dementia, and had a dream which included Pat and Barry singing, for some reason 😩

Nigel has now died apparently - Grant is back for his funeral!

I grew up in the east end and before she died my gran had moved out to seven kings but I've not been up that way for a while, I can imagine what Dagenham is like now (my grandad worked at fords back in the day)

Honestly from Dagenham outwards, its solid reform territory - its honestly a surprise they havent got more MPs there

High and visible migration in a historically working class area = reform prime target

Labour are defending 2566 council seats
Tories defending 1364
