Follow along with me?

I'm a leftie, who has pretty much abandoned caring about politics but I can't let the habit of watching the coverage go!

I voted Green 💚 - and live in a safe London Labour seat.

Feel free to share who you voted for, who you have historically voted for, and the local party in your area

No elections near me.
Well it's not really like a general election. Maybe it'll change things in Wales and Scotland but for those local councils in England it'll just be a different set of people responsible for potholes and bins. I have a very low opinion of local councillors, they always seem to be the wrong sort of people with little expertise in it for the wrong reasons. The greens being worse than the rest with their emphasis on the politics of other countries rather than the needs of their own electorate.

Ian beale is running for cllr on eastenders - enough said 😄

The greens aren’t an environmental party anymore. Hannah Spencer didn’t mention the environment once in her victory speech. Not to say she didn’t speak a lot of sense, but they’re a bog standard left wing party now.

Please take a cursory five minute look at the policies outlined on their website and then come back and apologise for spreading misinformation

TakeALookAtTheseSwatches · 07/05/2026 21:36

My area didn't vote, we turned Reform last year. I'm hoping other places don't follow our path.

No! I need to leave the house by 6.30am tomorrow to get to work. Most areas won't start the count until the morning, very few do overnight counts for local elections.

I've got an almost 2 hour drive to my office. It's the drive home that bothers me - almost all the results will be out then and I'll have to endure 100 minutes of listening to how Reform have done.

A 2 hour commute? Ouch! Do you do that every day? How awful, I don’t envy you that at all. I hope it’s just temporary

I'm going with 65% 👀

No way! That's General Election turnout territory!

These are local council elections. Green councillors do not deal with wider environmental policies beyond bike lanes and bin collections. They aren't responsible for trans policies. They are local councillors.

Is this everyone's first council election or something?

No but it's party policy and the Brighton council is being sued along with one of their schools because of the illegal trans schools policy so yes councillors are responsible for allowing illegal policies in schools and all council run facilities.
As for the environmental policies the poster i asked specifically said she was voting for them in part due to their environmental policies.

Oh and yes its am aware that this is a local council election in England

Oh I just started a thread not realising this one was here! Joining

No, I won’t be staying up and I didn’t vote as my local area isn’t doing it.

v interested in the results though. Hoping both Reform and Greens are decimated but don’t think they will be 🥲

Cattenberg · 07/05/2026 22:42

I only stay up for a local election if I'm counting the votes. They're not that exciting.

And in some local wards, turnout is as low as 16%.

Councils do have the responsibility for ensuring compliance with the law in their buildings though, so some of us want to know that they'll comply with the Supreme Court judgment from last year.

And my council passed a motion that TWAW and TMAM the other year (Labour). They shouldn't be wasting time on such nonsense.

I voted green, but i am with you in hoping that reform dont get their way! I do reckon Labour are in for heavy losses though

Green but I live in a traditionally Conservative safe seat so I am expecting it to go to reform 🥺 sadly the only candidate at the polling station I visited was the Reform candidate as well so if anyone was on the fence she may have swayed them.

Greywizard · 07/05/2026 23:01

I’m not staying up, would if the neighbouring council areas were counting over night. But results not due until at least midday.
We didn’t have local elections but the two bordering me do. So I am interested.
Feel a bit left out.

TopPocketFind · 07/05/2026 23:01

I would have voted Green, always voted Labour previously - but we have no elections here.

TheChosenTwo · 07/05/2026 23:07

I’ll be staying up for a bit but not looking forward to our results. Think we might turn Reform if the revolting flags that have decorated our town for the last year or so mean anything. Quite a few Reform posters about here too.
Our count is happening overnight, my in-laws are there now watching, I sometimes go with them but not this year.
I’m working tomorrow, will probably nod off around 2, our results are usually declared around then.
I’m really hoping I’m very wrong about my prediction.
