Will you stay up to watch the Election 2026 coverage (on BBC1 from 11PM and Sky News from Midnight)?

Follow along with me?

I'm a leftie, who has pretty much abandoned caring about politics but I can't let the habit of watching the coverage go!

I voted Green 💚 - and live in a safe London Labour seat.

Feel free to share who you voted for, who you have historically voted for, and the local party in your area

Votes aren’t counted overnight in Senedd so will get the result Friday/Saturday
I do book the day off for GE’s though and stay up and watch.. am a sucker for a swing-o-meter!

justasking111 · 07/05/2026 20:56

No counting in Wales till tomorrow.

Aren't some English areas counting tomorrow though?

TokyoSushi · 07/05/2026 20:57

I’ll stay up for a little bit then have it on alllll day tomorrow while I work!

TattiePants · 07/05/2026 21:04

I usually stay up and watch the results come in, especially as my area is usually first to declare. They’re not declaring until late afternoon tomorrow and I’m shattered so not sure I’ll even make it until 11.

Not staying up but I voted and am
hoping that Reform do not get in here

Wolmando · 07/05/2026 21:14

I will probably have a look in the morning, then it looks like a fair few come through tomorrow throughout the day

CheddarCheeseAndCrispSandwich · 07/05/2026 21:17

No voting today in my area, so no, I won’t be staying up. But if there had been, I certainly wouldn’t have voted for the Greens!!

ValueofNothing · 07/05/2026 21:19

Nope, of course not. It's the local council elections today, not a general election. Two different things. No government is getting ousted, no Prime Minister is stepping down.

The only actual drama will be seeing how many votes Reform councillors get, because I suspect a lot of people who have never previously voted will have turned out in force to vote for Reform councillors. After all, no one better to sort out traffic calming measures and bin collections than a one-note party full of racists and misogynists.

BelleEpoque27 · 07/05/2026 21:19

No. It's not a general election, there's never been this much fuss about local elections before. It's just a ruse to put pressure on Keir Starmer to leave.

woodenchairs · 07/05/2026 21:20

I wish the did elections on Fridays so I could stay up all night without work the next day.

Credittocress · 07/05/2026 21:21

I do for Generals, but there won’t be any results so will tune in tomorrow.

Hoardasurass · 07/05/2026 21:22

Skinnysaluki · 07/05/2026 20:33

I can only answer for me but..

  • They have been good on the local council for a number of years and we’ve had a good green MP locally
  • I care for nature and the environment more than I care about many other issues and I want to see more rewilding, planting etc locally.
  • I’ve voted for them for 30 years with the exception of the GEs in 1992, 97, 2017 and 2019 and I’m a creature of habit
  • I like Zack Polanski, Carla Denyer, Ellie Chown, Sian Berry, Caroline Lucas and the new one from Manchester whose name escapes me- Hannah something?

Not being disingenuous but what environmental policies do tge greens in England and Wales have?
Also what do you think about the greens wanting to allow men into all women's single sex spaces including prisons, changing facilities, sports, rape crisis centres, domestic violence shelters and hospital wards on the basis of man's say so?

Agree with this

The Times have pretty much come out and said it - 'Ed Milliband tells Starmer to make a path for a smooth exit' 🙄🙄🙄

I will be interested to see if it's the usual 30-35% turnout

Party full of racists and misogynists. You could be talking about Reform. You could be talking about the Greens. So when you do the crackpot count do you lump their votes together?

ValueofNothing · 07/05/2026 21:25

These are local council elections. Green councillors do not deal with wider environmental policies beyond bike lanes and bin collections. They aren't responsible for trans policies. They are local councillors.

Is this everyone's first council election or something?

Shuffletoesxtreme · 07/05/2026 21:26

The greens aren’t an environmental party anymore. Hannah Spencer didn’t mention the environment once in her victory speech. Not to say she didn’t speak a lot of sense, but they’re a bog standard left wing party now.

AhBiscuits · 07/05/2026 21:26

I think it's just going to be too depressing. Might avoid the media entirely until next week and things have calmed down.

AllaMova · 07/05/2026 21:28

I used to do this, but the voting in Wales will be done tomorrow (starting tomorrow morning.)

Hatty65 · 07/05/2026 21:28

Nope. There are no local elections in my area and I wouldn't stay up if there were.

The results won't be affected by me doing so and I'm not that desperate to learn what other people have voted in different areas.

BareGrylls · 07/05/2026 21:29

No elections near me.
Well it's not really like a general election. Maybe it'll change things in Wales and Scotland but for those local councils in England it'll just be a different set of people responsible for potholes and bins. I have a very low opinion of local councillors, they always seem to be the wrong sort of people with little expertise in it for the wrong reasons. The greens being worse than the rest with their emphasis on the politics of other countries rather than the needs of their own electorate.

Such a no-no, to call the Reform Party what it is. We all see what they say and what they do. We all know they're racists and hate women. You know they're racists and hate women, that's why you like them. But apparently we have to sit and be polite and pretend otherwise lest we hurt the feelings of the poor Reform supporters.
