Will you stay up to watch the Election 2026 coverage (on BBC1 from 11PM and Sky News from Midnight)?

Follow along with me?

I'm a leftie, who has pretty much abandoned caring about politics but I can't let the habit of watching the coverage go!

I voted Green 💚 - and live in a safe London Labour seat.

Feel free to share who you voted for, who you have historically voted for, and the local party in your area

Labour are defending 2566 council seats
Tories defending 1364

Bets on how many each party retains?

I wouldn’t vote for Polanski “boob increaser” all the while I draw breath.
Currently watching Lammy et al embarrass themselves on the TV, totally unwilling to admit the trouncing that is coming.
He is clueless and I feel politically homeless.

My local elections are next year but I already wonder if I might have to do that. My constituency was once described by an independent candidate as somewhere the Tories could send a donkey and it would get in - this was true at the time, but that was before the rise of Reform. (Saying that, the one next to me used to be the same, but elected its first Green MP last time).

Since I would rather vote for the donkey than for Reform, it might reluctantly be Tory for me in the general when it comes around. Hopefully, the local independents will do well in my locals next year because they have done before ( I have an independent right now) and they're a preferable option.

I won't be staying up a) because I don't have an election here and b) I don't particularly want to watch Farage's smug face all night, thank you very much. I tend to watch a bit of the general coverage at night when that comes around but not all of it.

I reckon we’re fairly safe from seeing much of farage - he’s still avoiding having to answer questions about his 5 million bribe gift

I’ll be watching it, I probably won’t stay up as late as for a general election though to be fair

FFS, they're only local council elections. Why are people losing their shit over them?

Because they're seen as a barometer for the popularity of the government.

Surely it's better that people are interested in local politics?

No, it was much more than that, he got caught by an undercover sting offering hypnotherapy sessions to increase breast size. He claimed to have apologised at the time to the BBC IIRC but no one can find that interview - but there is an interview where he doubled down.

He’s an absolute charlatan.

Mind you, even if you disregard this particular issue, there’s plenty of other reasons to distrust him. As I say that as a firmly left wing voter. I wouldn’t currently vote Greens if you paid me - certainly not while Polanski is in charge. It’s a shame.

Because they are responsible for running services in your local area - you know, the ones you pay your council tax for.
