Parent went mental at my Ddog!

WesternAmy · 30/04/2026 17:42

Can someone please tell me how Ddog was at fault here?! We were walking on a footpath close to our house earlier, and a woman was pushing her toddler along on a sort of bike thing.

As we were passing, the toddler dropped a cuddly toy. Ddog instinctively went to pick this up (it resembled a dog toy) and I stopped him.

The woman went mental, shouted at Ddog “NO, NO” and I hurried us away.

I can tell it has impacted him, he has been really subdued since which is not like him at all.

Am I wrong to think the woman should have had some restraint?

Here's your medal and biscuit! Enjoy!

Cheers!

i can just imagine your curled lip as you look on with disdain as a parent stops your DS from thumping their child repeatedly

nocoolnamesleft · 30/04/2026 18:21

The woman did nothing wrong. She just didn't want your dog slobbering on/chewing her toddlers comfort object. Which is fair enough.

HoneyPie12 · 30/04/2026 18:21

This has made me laugh out loud today. I enjoyed all of it but most of all that the dog has been subdued all day from the "trauma". I yelled at my dog today for trying to get in a birds nest. I also called her a massive prick. I do hope she isn't too subdued after

😆 DLOL.

YABU. Surely your dog should be trained to not pick up anything dropped in front of it?

ER... Do you know anything about dogs or labs in particular?

I'm team OP here.

I imagine she dislikes dogs and was worried about dog slobber on the toy.

Though presumably she considers the germs from the floor to be fine.

People are strange.

I think you'll get no sense on mn where people seem to believe dogs have no right to exist in communal space.

Generally a floor has more bacteria than dog slobber - both I. Terms of higher quantity and diversity if bacteria. However, dog slobber - or should I say DDog slobber? - can carry specific pathogens that are harmful to humans. And can transmit infections if it gets into eyes/nose/mouth.

I’d gotten Ddog away from it by then, it was most bizarre behaviour!

Some people are weird. There are probably fewer germs in your dog’s mouth than the child’s

You won’t get any support here though as most MNers loathe dogs

Weird imagination but do as you please.

At least I won't be freaking out from dog drool lol

TheToteBagLady · 30/04/2026 18:22

My vote is ddog is NBU to be subdued, and the parent was BU to shout.

Is this our first ever AIBU from the perspective of a ddog?

Are you sure people willingly hang out with you?

HarkHarktheDogsdoBark · 30/04/2026 18:23

I am so sorry for DDog. Please give him TLC.

I wonder if the woman also shouts at her child.

She is not modelling good community behaviour.

BauhausOfEliott · 30/04/2026 18:23

LOL at people stressing about 'slobber' getting on to an item which the child has dropped on the ground. A toy being in a dog's mouth for half a second is the least of your germ worries if the kid's just chucked the toy on the ground outdoors, believe me.

Some people just go through life ready to overreact to stuff at the drop of a hat. I feel a bit sorry for them really, can’t be nice to be so panicky or angry about stuff, so just count your blessings that isn’t you and try to forget it.

This!

BudgetBuster · 30/04/2026 18:22

Are you sure people willingly hang out with you?

I reckon just at the playground at the same time as them, rather than actually hanging out with anyone ever.

He's impacted? The vet can usually take care.of that.

This. ^ Or maybe some syrup of figs in his Pedigree Chum Smile

Its in the op that the dog stopped when op, um, stopped him.

But if the dog was under control, it wouldn't have been necessary to say 'no' twice, would it?

WesternAmy · 30/04/2026 17:45

He’s a very tame DLab.

😆

BudgetBuster · 30/04/2026 18:22

Are you sure people willingly hang out with you?

No, maybe I made it up to be cool on MN.

Channellingsophistication · 30/04/2026 18:24

I suspect the woman just didn't want dog slobber on the toy and reacted accordingly.
In what way did she go mental? What happened after?

Surprisednotusedb4 · 30/04/2026 18:24

PennyThought · 30/04/2026 18:24

well at least you’re honest

TheOtherSide21 · 30/04/2026 18:25

I love dogs, have my own working lab, and think a whole raft of folk on here are miserable wenches for their dog hating tendencies… and I think you’re a bit mental on this one 😂

She doesn’t know your dog from Adam, whether it’s tame, feral, whether if it got the toy she’d get it back and actually who wants someone else’s dogs slobber all over their stuff? And maybe the kid was allergic? Who knows. You got the dog, she also tried to stop the dog in case you didn’t, no harm done 🤷🏼‍♀️

The DDog aka as Dangerous Dog 😆 pounced at her

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 30/04/2026 18:25

DeskGnome · 30/04/2026 18:06

What a load of old shite.

It sounds as though she just instinctively panicked because she thought your dog was going to run away with it.

Are you always this dramatic OP?

Well someone was being dramatic and it wasn’t the OP
