Parent went mental at my Ddog!

WesternAmy · 30/04/2026 17:42

Can someone please tell me how Ddog was at fault here?! We were walking on a footpath close to our house earlier, and a woman was pushing her toddler along on a sort of bike thing.

As we were passing, the toddler dropped a cuddly toy. Ddog instinctively went to pick this up (it resembled a dog toy) and I stopped him.

The woman went mental, shouted at Ddog “NO, NO” and I hurried us away.

I can tell it has impacted him, he has been really subdued since which is not like him at all.

Am I wrong to think the woman should have had some restraint?

"No No" is not "going mental". I am more offended by your use of "mental" as an insult than I would have been by her. She was telling your dog NO which you also did.

It's you who should have had some restraint over your dog.

Its in the op that the dog stopped when op, um, stopped him.

Neurotic mums. Happy to let the kids play in the street, be entertained by strangers on mobile phones but a dog licking a toy....goodness, no!

That's a massive reach, I dont let my kids do any of those things, wouldn't want a stranger dog approaching out belongings.

TheLambtonWorm · 30/04/2026 18:12

He's impacted? The vet can usually take care.of that.

BudgetBuster · 30/04/2026 17:54

Sounds like both you and the dog need therapy if you think she's the bloody crazy woman in this scenario 🙄😂

This 🙄

Dontbeconspicuous · 30/04/2026 18:15

Yabu. I wouldn’t want dog drool all over my child’s toy either. She did nothing wrong telling the dog “no”.

weirdoboelady · 30/04/2026 18:15

Solution- buy your DDog a Dtoy. He obviously feels deprived of his rightful, pavement, discovery. (I quite like DDog, BTW).

Nah, I'm a parent and hang out with other parents. They want to not control their kids, as when it suits them, and freak out about others at their arbitrary whim.

It's exhausting.

WesternAmy · 30/04/2026 17:46

I’d gotten Ddog away from it by then, it was most bizarre behaviour!

"the most bizarre behaviour"

Really? A mother not wanting a dog to go for her child's day - at best slobbering over it, at worst destroying/damaging it

FlyingApple · 30/04/2026 18:16

YABU, what kind of mother would be comfortable with a dog going for their kid's toy?

I bet you’re popular with these parents you hang out with!

He’s a very tame DLab.

I’m on team DDog DDarling …

Some people just go through life ready to overreact to stuff at the drop of a hat. I feel a bit sorry for them really, can’t be nice to be so panicky or angry about stuff, so just count your blessings that isn’t you and try to forget it.

I agree. OP has really overreacted to this non event

Lucky for me, I don't need the validation of others through popularity!

Sounds like an overreaction by both of you.she was worried her DC toy was going to get dog slobber. You are being over protective of a dog.

Feis123 · 30/04/2026 18:17

She did nothing wrong, that woman. On a separate note, nothing to do with dog slobbering - dog's slobbers are nothing compared to what this soft toy would have picked from the pavement (helminth eggs, particles of dog excrement, etc. etc.).

Instructions · 30/04/2026 18:18

A person shouted "no, no" at your dog who was trying to pick up their child's toy and you think they "went mental"? That's a bit of an overreaction on your part. Most people don't want their possessions going into the mouths of random dogs.

OtherS · 30/04/2026 18:18

I like DDog. And there's nothing wrong with a bit of DDoggie drool - good for the immune system 😁 She should have been grateful! So definitely YANBU.

Bonkers1966 · 30/04/2026 18:19

OP you sound entitled and insufferable.

I would have done the same thing as her.

Your dog has not been “affected” by it 🙄

WesternAmy · 30/04/2026 17:51

He’s definitely impacted, I know what my Ddog is like. Bloody crazy woman!

'impacted' by someone shouting no?

Possibly just responding to your emotional response to this.

Here's your medal and biscuit! Enjoy!

user2848502016 · 30/04/2026 18:20

It was probably her child’s precious soft toy and she panicked thinking it might get destroyed or slobbered on (I have a dog btw)

Serencwtch · 30/04/2026 18:20

She was probably very frightened of dogs. Neither of you did anything wrong, she was reacting out of fear & anxiety.
A phobia is exactly that an irrational fear & reaction to something.

I'm sure D-dog will get over it!!
