Parent went mental at my Ddog!

WesternAmy · 30/04/2026 17:42

Can someone please tell me how Ddog was at fault here?! We were walking on a footpath close to our house earlier, and a woman was pushing her toddler along on a sort of bike thing.

As we were passing, the toddler dropped a cuddly toy. Ddog instinctively went to pick this up (it resembled a dog toy) and I stopped him.

The woman went mental, shouted at Ddog “NO, NO” and I hurried us away.

I can tell it has impacted him, he has been really subdued since which is not like him at all.

Am I wrong to think the woman should have had some restraint?

Come on, your dog will get over it. I doubt it would be "impacted".
Just distract it and move on.
I say this as a massive dog lover. My dogs occasionally have scraps, vover dogs and get over it in a couple of minutes. Some random are saying no to your dog. It's not going to impact it unless you act weird afterwards.

WesternAmy · 30/04/2026 17:51

He’s definitely impacted, I know what my Ddog is like. Bloody crazy woman!

One of you certainly is…

Ved · 30/04/2026 17:56

Worst ones are DNiece and DNephew! 😂

Well it’s the same principle as ddog really isn’t it, it’s actually longer to type so what’s the point? Just say nephew.

WallaceinAnderland · 30/04/2026 18:00

Nobody did anything wrong in this scenario. The parent did not go 'mental' and your dog is not traumatised. All is well.

She didn’t want your dog slobbering on her child’s toy and reacted to stop it probably at the same time you did. She couldn’t know what you were going to do in that instant. Not everyone likes dogs.

It's the owners who get on my tip. It isn't dogs' fault people anthropomorphise them, prioritise their human needs over the animals' by treating them as little babies and taking them everywhere, don't pick up after them, and neglect to train them properly. Some places and things are simply not suitable for dogs; this includes the toys of random children.

For most of my life I've been quite fond of dogs, although not silly about them as some of these owners are. In recent years it's putting me off wanting them anywhere near me.

This mother did nothing wrong.

Shatteredallthetimelately · 30/04/2026 18:00

She said "NO, NO" to your dog and you call it having gone mental and describe her a bloody crazy woman for doing so.

I'm kind of thinking it's not her that's crazy.

cobrakaieaglefang · 30/04/2026 17:46

You stopped him, no harm done to toy or child. She's obviously a mner.. dislikes dogs. 😉

This! Are people deliberately missing the bit where the OP said she stopped the dog. The dog was under full control but the mum yelled anyway.

Yelling at a dog is a really stupid thing to do. We live in a country where dog lovers outnumber dog haters. Those that don't like dogs really, really need to learn how to behave around dogs. You don't have to like them or go near them but just educate yourself.

Pancakeflipper · 30/04/2026 18:01

She was possibly on high alert and a bit tense.... a toddler, a bike, people passing, a dog, toddler dropping toy....

Giive DDog a hug, their fav treat and forget it

I'm forever saying NO to my 2 DLabs 😂

But the whole point of DH is that it’s quicker to type than husband. DDog is more letters, it’s so weird and cringe. Also nobody thinks your dog is dear or darling other than you, and I would shout at it if it tried to out its horrible slobbery mouth around my kids toys too.

Edited

As others wouldn’t think your children are dear or darling either, nothing wrong with using ddog when everyone on here uses the sickly ds, dd, dh etc. Just because dh is quicker to type doesn’t make it more acceptable than ddog.

Auroraloves · 30/04/2026 18:05

DYABU

NewGoldFox · 30/04/2026 18:05

You didn’t let the dog touch it so don’t see what the issue was.
Sounds like she overreacted.

DeskGnome · 30/04/2026 18:06

What a load of old shite.

It sounds as though she just instinctively panicked because she thought your dog was going to run away with it.

Are you always this dramatic OP?

She merely said 'no'.

Hardly corresponds with the thread title of 'went mental', now does it? Nice ableist language there, by the way, OP.

Lucyccfc68 · 30/04/2026 18:08

Do you want us to set up a Go Fund Me for your dog to get some therapy?

tommyhoundmum · 30/04/2026 18:08

Ved · 30/04/2026 17:44

YABU. She did nothing wrong.

Also YABU for saying 'DDog!' 😆

Our hound is a DDog too.

Bitchcraft · 30/04/2026 18:09

Haha I've always liked it when people write DDog. It doesn't make sense but I find it endearing. 🥹

Megifer · 30/04/2026 18:09

So your dog did absolutely nothing and behaved well when you stopped him?

Woman is an idiot and tbh shouting at a dog she doesn't know might not end well for her next time. What a knob.

Theslummymummy · 30/04/2026 18:09

WesternAmy · 30/04/2026 17:45

He’s a very tame DLab.

It's you who should have had some restraint over your dog.

Come on daily mail, pick this one up so it goes viral, Ddog needs you!

teawamutu · 30/04/2026 18:09

Woman didn't want dog slobber all over her toddler's toy. Can't really see what else she could have done.

What do you think should have happened, OP, in terms of stopping the dog before the toy was covered in dog germs?

BotterMon · 30/04/2026 18:10

You stopped him, she panicked. Mountain; mole hill.

teawamutu · 30/04/2026 18:10

Btw I call reverse.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 30/04/2026 18:10

MN is full of people who have very strong negative feelings towards dogs, so I’d shrug off the majority of comments.

your dog did nothing wrong, you told it to leave and it did.
no need for the woman to shout, you already had it under control.

personally, I would leave any toy that I was particularly precious about at home when mine were younger. If the child is dropping it on the floor, a bit of dog saliva is probably the least of their worries.
