Matcha, leggings with socks over, botox, yada yada yada

So bored of it.

This is nearly every mum in my area, pilates & matcha, botox and handyman & cleaner recommendations. No depth, no real worries..basic.

Aibu to want to meet funny, down to earth mums with depth and interesting pasts and conversations?

Well botox can cause neuron damage in too high a dose so maybe that explains the lack of intellectual conversations? Judging by the pretty close 47%/53% vote it seems like there's probably far more mums playing dumb to be liked on the playground than what it appears in real life. As for the description....spot on, I can literally visualise the local leggings and socks mum clique now. Whose look is not complete without a baseball cap and gillet (often amusingly mispronounced).

How fucking mortifying for you. You’re taking the piss out of women that amusingly mispronounce gilet, whilst spelling it incorrectly!

Proves the point beautifully though. You’re looking down your nose at the way certain women dress and speak, all the while you up there on your high horse can’t spell.

You’re too judgy

get to know these people more: nobody’s personality is defined by having a handyman and wearing leggings

WhereHasMyPlanetGone · Yesterday 09:40

I tried a matcha latte this morning off the back of this thread.
It was rank. 0/10

mustwashmycurtains · Yesterday 09:46

OP I kind of agree with you.

as a Pilates-going Botox user myself I think both are great - but there is nothing more boring than people talking about them.

I do these thing quietly in private and do not discuss (with rare exceptions - if people ask specific questions) A lot of people I know seem to want to make it their whole personality and discuss nothing more interesting (see also - diets and food intolerances 🙄)

also - why are young people scared to reveal their ankles these days???

You sound shallow and judgy. Just because people don't reveal everything about themselves to casual acquaintances doesn't mean they don't have depth.

I'm in my 60s. I'm taking my botoxed self to Pilates in my socks over leggings later (although I'll have a decaf skinny Americano not a Matcha). You'd probably double judge me for being both old AND basic but I have knowledge and life experiences you probably couldn't imagine. But you'd never get close enough to find out.

IWaffleAlot · Yesterday 10:05

Sounds like the area you are in is one season or
trend behind. It’s moved on since then.

A skinny Americano?

Americano is a long, black coffee. How do you make it skinny?

Agree with you. A lot of younger ladies seem to be carbon copies of each other. Leggings, sports socks, botox and lips, the same dull interests (at least on the surface of it)
Predictable Instagram crap, the same chavvy curled long hair.... Ugh

Edited

This isn’t new, individuality died in the 90s. It’s normal now for teenagers & parents to dress the same.

circusrunaways · Yesterday 14:46

& grandparents!

Bellasmellsofwee · Yesterday 14:51

I’d love to live in your area.

A parent punched a teacher in the playground at pickup on Tuesday afternoon. There are often fights between parents, but this is the first time I’ve seen a teacher get a fist to the face.

Count yourself lucky, it’s like Jeremy Kyle live where I live.

eggsandsourdough · Yesterday 15:22

Socks over leggings till i die.

Interestingly enough my 13YO DD said its very uncool 😭but alas i shall continue

Hallywally · Yesterday 17:11

You still haven’t described your actual interests or personality or what “elevates” you above these awful “basic” women.

Tbf I could really do with a recommendation for a good cleaner and a handyman.

Me too! 😆

Bingalinguist · Yesterday 18:17

Where do you live, if you haven’t yet said?

I’m guessing Home Counties!

I’m London and there are definitely certain types within a certain demographic in my area. Quite a few ‘nutritionists’ or ‘interior designers’ that - this sounds unkind and judgemental, but it’s just the truth - actually don’t earn anything and live off their husband’s high incomes. They seem to have moved on from Pilates to padel. All their houses look similar!

That said, within the same area there are plenty of down to earth and very individual women. You just need to find your tribe!

Tbf dd and I own the same jumper and the same pair of trousers! Bought completely separately, she was at uni at the time, came home for Christmas and we were both wearing identical outfits 😂

Regarding the ankles, I don’t like mine exposed! I have a thing about those knobbly ankle bones, they look vulnerable and I once had my clipped by a bike pedal (wincing as I type it!) so I prefer to keep mine covered.
also, I just get so cold so the less bare flesh the better for me! When I see people in cropped flappy trousers and exposed ankles I almost feel the chill myself 😂

BunnyLake · Yesterday 18:45

What are you bringing to the table?

BunnyLake · Yesterday 18:49

How long are the socks? Are we talking ankle socks or knee length?

envbeckyc · Yesterday 18:51

I have never been part of the mummy in yoga clothes all day group… so I can’t comment!

I have always been part of the ‘working mum tribe’ running to pick up kids from the after school club arriving a minute before the end of the session.

I think we are too busy to worry about other Mums…

Yeahyeahyeahnooooo · Yesterday 19:04

I would probably present a bit like these women. But fuck me, I've a stinking past, lived a wild life, swear like a navvy and have regular filthy thoughts. You just wouldn't know it from looking at me 😎

StarCourt · Yesterday 19:13

Can’t stand Matcha, tastes like dirt. I’d love a cleaner tho

I work with a mum like this it's so boring she just talks about the latest health food kick all day or fashion trend. She has no hobbies or interests. Just because her kids are the same age as mine she thinks we're meant to be besties but she bores me to death.

I prefer my mud covered horsey friends and my nerdy friends I play D&D with but none of them are mums. I don't feel the need for mum friends though, I just carry on with the friends I already had. I've never found a mum friend I have anything in common with other than having a toddler and who wants to talk about sleep regressions and toilet training all day?

Maybe give up on the idea of a stimulating group of mum friends and just carry on with the friends you already had for your interests and if you feel the need to talk about being a mum just accept it's going to be with other women who only want to talk about being a mum and don't expect the two groups to overlap.

Fashion and nutrition are hobbies/interests…

No sugar?

okeydokeygail · Yesterday 19:51

I think most people you meet at first don’t seem to have depth or worries unless you meet them during an exciting or stressful event. People are naturally wired to try to fit in so they are unlikely to be deep and share their worries immediately (especially if they feel they’re being judged by you sneering at the superficial things you mention in your post, none of which indicates a lack of worries or character)
