Would you judge some who’s clothing is mostly primark or supermarket brands

It’s me by the way and that’s the case for my clothes

Depends. If you were on a high wage and couldn’t be bothered to spend more, yes. If you couldn’t afford to buy more expensive clothes, no.

That’s a really weird answer 😳

Any judgement I would make of you,or anyone else, would be based on things like how honest I felt you were, how well you treated others, how kind in general you behaved.

your clothes wouldn't ever come into it.

This. I love clothes and I do hunt down certain designers secondhand. But that is MY clothes, I couldn’t care less what other people wear, I just want to know if you are a good person. Very few people have the headspace to be worrying about other people’s lives.

catherinewales · Yesterday 20:11

I can afford more expensive clothes but I buy what I like. It’s mostly supermarket, SHEIN, primark and next. I think if they look nice it doesn’t matter where they are from xx

maftaz · Yesterday 20:12

Clothing is the same everywhere now. Wide leg trousers, tucked in top/shirt, trainers of one sort or another, or a dress and boxy cardigan/short jacket combo, flats (not trainers anymore).

Since there's not much difference shop to shop, why spend a fortune on anything now. Primark is great, so is Tu and others.

Anything with a label makes me judge the wearer more TBH!

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · Yesterday 20:12

No, my friends are my friends and clothing doesn't come into it. Whether you wear supermarket or designer, that's your choice - i wouldn't notice tbh.

flowertoday · Yesterday 20:13

No, I only buy and wear second hand clothes. I don't notice or care what other people wear.
I have literally turned into my dad - wait for other people to buy you jumpers for Christmas and only buy practical outdoors wear.

OneFunBrickNewt · Yesterday 20:14

No

TheyGrewUp · Yesterday 20:14

Not unless you were a stinky minger with dirty toenails.

DD wears stuff from Tu for work. It's really nice. I bought a broderie anglais white skirt from Sainos last week - it would have cost £70-£80 from Oliver Bonas. Depends how you wear stuff. I also have stuff from Caroline Charles.

Charity shops are too expensive these days. Never heard of a community clothing shop.

Some of them are, but there are still bargains to be had - look in less affluent areas.

Examples - an as-new Isobel Marant skirt for £1 in an Age UK clearance shop, an Anthropologie jumper for £2.50, a Hobbs skirt for £1 - all in the last year.

ToWhitToWhoo · Yesterday 20:15

I wouldn't even notice.

Denim4ever · Yesterday 20:15

It's actually quite difficult to tell. I would never dismiss Primark on style grounds and the quality is also not too bad. I bought a cheap as chips acrylic men's crew neck that is definitely as nice or nicer to wear than an M&S one I have. However, the assumption is a low price is worse product ethics. I guess people do judge that if they can tell where a garment comes from.

smilingontheinside · Yesterday 20:16

I know a lovely lady who is the envy of the mums at the school gate. She always looks fantastic and everyone wants to be her. She is genuinely a really lovely person. She dresses well, shiny hair and a little make up. Her clothes, well mostly from Primark!! I dont think you need to spend a fortune its how you carry yourself, how you accessorise and grooming can help make clothes look good. I have been complimented when I wear a particular dress and it cost £7 from Primark. So no I wouldn't judge and I font think what you earn determines what you wear or how goid you can look in something.

Oleoreoleo · Yesterday 20:16

I’m guessing you’re not Irish then @Shopping7777 ? Over here if someone compliments what you’re wearing, the only acceptable response is “Penneys” whether you bought it there or not. 🤣

For the avoidance of doubt, Primark trades as Penneys here.

Pikachu150 · Yesterday 20:16

How would anyone know where your clothes are from?

LaurieFairyCake · Yesterday 20:17

I judge (a bit) if people don’t primarily buy second hand. I have no idea why people are obsessed with new clothes, makes me feel vaguely sick if I see someone with a load of new clothes in those big plastic Primark bags.

but that’s MY issue, not anyone else’s

BuddhaAtSea · Yesterday 20:17

Why do you ask, @Shopping7777 ?
I personally don’t buy from supermarkets/primark/shein etc, but only because I think buy cheap buy twice, and I’m too poor for that. I do mind if clothes lose shape/colour, if I can’t iron them properly because they twist at the seam after washing. A lot of them are about 10-15 years old.
But that’s my choice, and kindly, I really don’t mind/care what you wear.

EBearhug · Yesterday 20:17

I wouldn't know what other people are wearing, unless it's got the name emblazoned across the front.

I've had quite a few things from Tu because they are often cotton (though less so than years ago,) and they do pockets, even in skirts.

I'm currently wearing Laura Ashley trousers (so old) and a Nutmeg T-shirt (Morrison's). I've also just eaten dinner in a restaurant by myself. So judgey types can really go to town - and the world will keep on turning and nothing will change.

ImWearingPantaloons · Yesterday 20:17

I don’t think I could give less of a shit if I tried 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, that is a bit strange IMO. Why do you think everyone should be buying second hand clothes? 😕

BeardofHagrid · Yesterday 20:18

It’s all made in the same factories!

The only thing I will spend more on are bras from M&S.

I found that George Asda’s long sleeve tops are 100% cotton, yet all other versions, including M&S, are polyester and way more expensive. You really have to shop around.

Namechangebecausewtf · Yesterday 20:19

I had a stranger approach to say you look great so i now make a point of not just thinking it but telling the person I love x y z. I would say 8/10 times the person in question says Tu, George, Primark, H & M, Zara.
It's not what you wear but how you wear it.

No, but then I doubt I'd even notice.

legalseagull · Yesterday 20:19

Today I’ve been wearing Sainsbury’s jeans and an Asda shirt. I wore them with an expensive mulberry handbag - point being, I don’t see anything wrong with supermarket clothes! Just buy whatever you like!

ive often complimented friends clothes to be told they were from a supermarket and I’ve been impressed at the quality

Zov · Yesterday 20:24

@marsbarslice

Charity shops are too expensive these days.

Yeah, charity shops take the piss with some of their prices. £5 for a t-shirt that cost £2 at Primark! £10 for a jumper that cost £8 from Asda!

Although, my DH did pick up a rather nice, looks-like-it-had-never-been-worn coat a few weeks back, for £15, and when we looked up the label name, it turns out it's around £120 new!

Vaxtable · Yesterday 20:24

No. I would no idea where you got your clothes from anyway
