Would you judge some who’s clothing is mostly primark or supermarket brands

It’s me by the way and that’s the case for my clothes

OP posts:
Fairyliz · Yesterday 20:01

I think most people are more likely to judge what you look like in the clothes rather than where they are from.

AliasGr4ce · Yesterday 20:01

I love supermarket clothes, especially TU. I generally wouldn’t notice or judge you or even notice where your clothes were from. In fact in my circles it’s usually a badge of pride to when someone compliments you on a piece of clothing and you in fact got it in Sainsbury’s with 50% off. A chat about mutual love of TU usually ensues.

In the past I do remember there was much more snobbery about supermarket clothes. But not now.

Shopping7777 · Yesterday 19:44

I guess you can tell they are cheap

I would estimate that 5% of people would pay any attention and notice, and the other 95% wouldn’t!

DrinkFeckArseBrick · Yesterday 20:01

No. But I'd judge someone, who judged someone for where they bought their clothes

EmeraldShamrock000 · Yesterday 20:01

No, not at all. I do judge people who buy endless shit from shein as it’s a waste and ends up in landfill. I have a lot of vest or long sleeve cotton tops from Tesco, the jeans are made well. The pair I’m wearing today are 2 years old, still going strong.
I am not well off but like to buy jumpers in new look and H&M etc very basic mid range.

Shinyhappyapple · Yesterday 20:02

Not at all - I don’t really know people who buy high end clothing so I wouldn’t really know looking at someone where they bought their clothes from unless it was sports stuff with an obvious label. I tend to buy from Next online as it’s an easy buy for me with delivery and returns but I also get stuff from
Asda with my shopping .

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · Yesterday 20:02

Nope! A top lawyer I know who’s worked/working on the Grenfell inquiry wears Tu a lot and looks very smart.

childoftkty · Yesterday 20:02

Absolutely not. I like to think I’m pretty stylish and look good and I care about clothes a lot. I buy loads in Tesco especially in the summer. They do fantastic 100% cotton shirts and blouses which are great. Their basic vest tops don’t shrink and their knickers and bras are great. I also have a For my black oversized blazer I love and a Chanel style jacket I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve had compliments on it. I don’t buy a huge amount in Primark nowadays but their £11 gym leggings are amazing and I’ve had a couple of pairs of decent jeans. My most hard wearing item in my wardrobe is an £8 men’s plain cream crew neck jumper.

anyone who judges is a fool

AmIReallyTheGrownup · Yesterday 20:03

No of course not.

I pick up all sorts of nice bits from Tu and my budget definitely doesn’t mean I have to shop there.

cocoloco12 · Yesterday 20:04

Definitely not. Wouldn't notice either. There is nothing better when someone either asks where something is from / you ask them and the answer is "Asda" or similar.
My favourites are TU and Dunnes (NI).

Most people I know shop at these places. In fact, I know they are buying them via on vinted too, myself included. I wouldn't just assume you couldn't afford more expensive either, for example, I personally would rather go for a meal than buy an expensive jumper!

marsbarslice · Yesterday 20:04

andplaybasketball · Yesterday 19:49

I would notice, tbh. It wouldn’t bother me but I probably would assume it was an affordability issue.

But how would you know? Confused

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · Yesterday 20:05

I wouldn’t know and nor would I care if I did know, if you see what I mean. I have to admit, I do judge (and not in a good way) people whose handbags/clothes have initials/logos all over them. But each to their own.

EmeraldShamrock000 · Yesterday 20:05

If you wear a suit for work, it’s worth investing in a nice jacket/trouser/skirt etc but otherwise supermarket all the way. The fancier stores have huge sales if you dressed for a professional role.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · Yesterday 20:05

HurdyGurdy19 · Yesterday 19:46

I honestly wouldn't have a clue if someone was wearing Gucci or George at Asda. Nor would I care, really.

Definitely no judgement from me.

Accessories you can tell but once years ago I had some shoes that were Pied a Terre (not that cheap!) but everyone thought they were Prada!

Redcrayons · Yesterday 20:05

I wouldn’t be able to tell. A lot of my clothes are from Tesco. I hate shopping for clothes so if I see something I want whilst buying groceries then it’s a win for me.

and if I did know, I wouldn’t judge anyway. I couldn’t care less.

IWaffleAlot · Yesterday 20:06

Absolutely not. Couldn’t care where people are buying them from. I would judge someone with their butt or breasts hanging out though.

Zov · Yesterday 20:06

I won't get my clothes from Primark, not because I'm a snob, but because most of their stuff is substandard and poor quality. Some of it may seem OK when you buy it, but most things have 5-10 uses before it starts to dissolve/break/fray.

I do buy F & F (Tesco,) Nutmeg (Morrisons,) and George (Asda.) Haven't shopped at H & M and New Look and the like for a couple of decades now. I buy my underwear from M & S. Shoes from various places, whenever/wherever I see anything I like - The Original Factory Shop, Shoezone, Tesco, it depends..... I have been known to get clothes/coats/shoes/wellies etc from Catalogue Surplus places........

dailyconniptions · Yesterday 20:06

I wouldn't notice at all.

busyd4y · Yesterday 20:07

andplaybasketball · Yesterday 19:49

I would notice, tbh. It wouldn’t bother me but I probably would assume it was an affordability issue.

Surely you dont know every single garment sold in Primark,Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda, how does that come about?
I buy from those places and if you assumed it's an affordability issue you'd be way off the mark

JLou08 · Yesterday 20:08

No. I'd think less of someone who did judge someone based on their clothing.

HorrorPudding · Yesterday 20:09

I’d judge someone who judged you for the clothes you wear @Shopping7777

For most of us you’d need to wear your clothes inside out with the labels clearly showing for most of us to even know where your clothes came from, let alone judge you for wearing them. As for me, everything I am wearing today is higher end high street and it’s all from Vinted. If I saw something I liked in a supermarket I’d buy it and I don’t give a flying fuck what other people think of what I wear.

Planner2026 · Yesterday 20:09

No! Absolutely not.

It’s not my thing but I would never judge a person for buying clothes in these sorts of places. Each to their own.

Why, OP? What’s the back story?

BananaPeels · Yesterday 20:09

I wear mostly cheap clothes. I could afford more but don’t really care much about it.

Iheartmysmart · Yesterday 20:09

Well I’m sat here in my Sainsbury’s leggings and hoodie wearing a pair of trainers I bought from George at Asda when DS was a baby and he’s just had his 24th birthday! So no, I wouldn’t judge at all.

Speediegonzales · Yesterday 20:09

No. I take people as I find them. Their choice of clothing is irrelevant.
