To tell DH to stop sulking after my jokey comment?

Hayfever25 · Yesterday 19:00

I feel like DH has become a right grumpy so and so recently.

We are attending a friends’ wedding, it’s an abroad one in July. A couple we are close (she’s my best friend) with are also attending, and we met up with them on Sunday.

They had hoped to book the same hotel as us but found the rates had increased since we booked, so are staying elsewhere.

On Sunday, my friends H jokingly asked if we are sad they aren’t joining us. I replied along the lines of - ‘of course, I really wanted to see your bulge in your speedos by the pool’ and they both laughed. We have a very jokey relationship so it was a fairly ordinary comment.

DH had a sulk on driving home and when I asked why, he said the comment I made was inappropriate.

Is it me or does he need to lighten up a bit?

And the award for the most obvious reverse goes to…

I’m not sure that’s quite the same. But I’d have laughed if he made a similar quip about seeing my friend in her bikini.

It is exactly the same. It doesn’t matter what you’d have thought, you offended him with your crass comment. Apologise to him.

MushMonster · Yesterday 19:18

That was crass of you OP.

Shitmonger · Yesterday 19:19

I think I’d rather squeeze a lemon into my eyes than comment on my friend’s husband’s dick. Grim.

Beachwalker66 · Yesterday 19:19

Utterly cringe

TittyGajillions · Yesterday 19:20

Probably best not to mention your friend's husbands dick in front of your husband or anyone else really.

😂
Agreed. Such a naff thing to say

Error404FucksNotFound · Yesterday 19:21

You said you were looking forward to seeing the outline of his penis in tight fitting swimwear and you cant see that's not appropriate and you dont think it compares to a tits comment?

You're right. It compares to a vulva comment.

Inappropriate. Id be pissed off too.

Happy Margot Robbie GIF

Not a good look to be sexually harassing your best friend’s husband.

Perhaps the avoiding the same hotel was not about the rates so much as the mates as it sounds like you have form for this around her husband.

At least it shows we don’t have double standards because I would say the same if it was a reverse.

wand3rer · Yesterday 19:22

It’s not the same as commenting on someone’s bikini body. Speedos are notoriously unflattering 😬

That being said, it would never cross my mind to talk about my friend’s husband’s looks!

gamerchick · Yesterday 19:23

Do you have a thing for the husband?

Rooroobear · Yesterday 19:24

It’s exactly the same. You made a joke about seeing your best friends husbands penis bulge. So it is the same if your dh said he was looking forward to her boob bulge or fanny bulge 🤷🏻‍♀️ double standards much

Runningismyhappyplace50 · Yesterday 19:24

What you said was clearly a joke unless your friend does wear speedos?!

MildlyAnnoyed · Yesterday 19:25

I don’t think he’s being unreasonable. It would be like your DH saying to your friend that he’s looking forward to seeing her boobs in her bikini. It’s inappropriate & a bit sleazy. If another woman had posted that her husband had said that, there’d be uproar.

Createausername1970 · Yesterday 19:25

Hmm. I am usually ok with male banter, and find myself in a definite minority on here.

However ..... had you said "disappointed not to see you in your budgie smugglers" or similar I couldn't see an issue if that's your relationship. But actually making direct reference to his penis i.e "the bulge" takes it a bit beyond what I am comfortable with.

ItsANewDawnItsANewDayItsANewLife · Yesterday 19:27

Ew don’t be a creep.

SwatTheTwit · Yesterday 19:35

I’d be fuming if my partner made an equivalent comment to a female friend. It’s embarrassing and disrespectful to your relationship.

Well I'd be shocked - very ''off''. So socially unacceptable.

100% agree. If you’d just said “speedos” or whatever, it would’ve similar to bikini. But it’s the reference to “bulge” that is gross and beyond banter. I feel sorry for your DH and cringing for you and being so desperate that either you fancy your mate’s husband o lr being too try hard to be funny

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · Yesterday 19:48

If he has said something about seeing someone’s breasts in their bikini, everyone on here would be baying for blood.

And why do people get with partners who have a totally different sense of humour! Being offended all the time must be exhausting

chattyness · Yesterday 19:51

I think that was a bit cringey , you're married and that's your best friends husband. It's on the ick side . If you'd just mentioned the Speedos and left the bulge out of it would be quite funny between friends but you didn't, so it seems a bit too personal.

Constantcravingcheeseandchoc · Yesterday 19:52

Agree with your Dh, there’s jokey and then just inappropriate and awkward all round. What if your Dh said he was looking forward to seeing your bf’s minge in a bikini…I mean 😬

It's exactly the same. You said "bulge" referring to his penis.
