Aibu that having thick hair is not something for someone to be envious of!?

As the title says!
I have very thick hair, always have, it’s straight but has lots of kinks in so needs to be blow dried and straightened after each wash. I absolutely cannot leave to air dry as it’s a frizzy poofy mess. Even just blasting it with hair dyer it’s frizzy, lots of kinks and a few waves. Needs to be brushed as I dry it to somehow calm it down and it takes absolutely ages to do! It’s about bra strap length, I’ve tried it shorter but doesn’t sit right, needs some weight to hold it down so doesn’t poof out, layers don’t sit right. First bit of wind outside and it turns to a mess, gets very knotty.

Today Someone asked if my hair was all mine and that they would love to have hair like mine. This isn’t the first conversation I’ve had with people about wanting thick hair. Every hairdresser I go to mentions it.

Aibu that having thick hair isn’t something to be envious of
or
yanbu thick hair is a pita!

Also if anyone has any styling tips that would be great

As a post menopausal woman with hair that has thinned too much YABVVVVVU.

Be careful what you wish for.

Yes thick hair is very difficult to manage!

Is it actually curly? Mine behaves a lot better when I embrace the curliness (and moisturise it) instead of blow drying straight. Or scrape it all back into a bun, which is my other approach.

YABU! I have many of the same issues you describe but with fine hair! I’d love a properly luxurious mane.

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · Yesterday 19:03

YABU and YANBU.

My hair is so thick I've got "paper cut" style injuries from just brushing my hands through it.

But I'm well aware that fine hair is it's own problem.

There's probably about size women in the world with hair the perfect thickness.

Everyone else is allowed to moan a bit.

(I can't wait for my hair to thin a bit!)

ThomasinaTrot · Yesterday 19:03

Your options are a bit confusing.

Thick hair can be hard to manage but is better than thin hair. I would suggest a different hairdresser who could help you create a style that works with your hair rather than against it.

Chewbecca · Yesterday 19:03

It is difficult but it is preferable to thin hair so YABU.

This! With knobs on.

Thick haired hot headed meno frizz ball here.
The undercut has been a life saver!
I have half the hair to contend with and it's nicely hidden under my bob 😅

TheChosenTwo · Yesterday 19:08

I lost lots of mine on MJ, used to be really thick and tbh quite the pita, it’s lovely now 😂 had it cut shoulder length and looks nice and healthy and takes a quarter of the time to dry and style now. I do it so much more than I ever used to because it’s just so easy.
I’m a bit annoyed that the regrowth is coming through because it’s just going to start adding bulk again.

ClaireEclair · Yesterday 19:09

I have thick hair and I’ve given up trying to straighten it. I now use products for curly hair and I’ve realised I can style it into a really nice natural curls. Not curly curly but wavy with a slight curl if that makes sense. I use mouse for curly hair and scrunch it while I’m drying.

incognito1991 · Yesterday 19:12

I voted YABU as I pay a lot of money for extensions to thicken my hair, I would love naturally thick hair

AuntChippy · Yesterday 19:13

I have a mountain of thick curly hair. I have to keep it long to avoid looking like I’ve had a shampoo and set in 1975.

Drying it with a diffuser takes an hour, letting it air dry, well that just doesn’t work as it’s still damp 12 hours later.

No 2 days are the same. I could wash it and get gorgeous spiral curls, or I could wash it and get Monica in Barbados. I envy friends with less hair.

CointreauVersial · Yesterday 19:14

I would kill for thick hair. Mine has been thin, fine and limp all my life; I couldn't even muster up a decent ponytail, just a sad little rat's tail.

Somehow, DD1 was blessed by the hair(y) fairy, and has the most gorgeous thick, long strawberry blonde hair, and I am utterly envious.

Ironically, now I'm going grey it has got a bit more body to it, because the strands are more coarse. But it's still a bit rubbish.

Of course, we always want what we haven't got....

StrictlyCoffee · Yesterday 19:15

Mine is really thick too, it’s a pain in the arse, albeit menopause is now thinning it

CointreauVersial · Yesterday 19:15

I guess the only advantage of my hair is it dries off within minutes after washing it.

anon2022anon · Yesterday 19:15

You sound like you almost certainly have at least wavy hair, if you check out a couple of tutorials.

I have thick hair. Yes thick hair is a pain, but it's absolutely better than the alternative.

Auroraloves · Yesterday 19:17

I’ve got a lot of fine straight hair. I need to blow dry it but not straighten it. I love my hair, lots of people comment on it.

The only drawback is that I find it hard to curl and by the time I’ve finished curling the first curls have dropped out

getearnow · Yesterday 19:18

As someone who was just lost all my very thick hair, yeah YABU. It’s like moaning that your purse is too small for all your money.. just get it thinned.
I was like you, thought it was a big pain but then it all fell out due to illness.
I’m lucky it’s started growing back now, I’ll never take it for granted again.

I'm 60 and my hair is as thick as it's always been, oh how I wish it had got thinner over time.

SliceofTosst · Yesterday 19:19

My hair is fine which is easy day to day but unfortunately very greasy.

Swings and roundabouts at the end of the day.

SeriousTissues · Yesterday 19:21

I have thin, fine hair that mostly looks a mess. It’s no longer greasy thanks to menopause but still needs washing daily to keep it in some kind of order. Would love too thick hair.

tigger1001 · Yesterday 19:25

I think it's one of these things where we see the negatives in ourselves and envy what others have.

Enough for large patches of your bare scalp to show through, though?

thickhairproblems · Yesterday 19:26

I do have something similar to this and also got the shark hair dryer and I do use the attachments which are helpful but feel I still need the straighteners to flatten the fluffiness!
