AIBU to expect my sister to store my bike briefly?

On Friday I bought a new bike off marketplace. I currently have my old bike in my hallway as I need to clean it up and sell it so I took my new bike to my sisters and popped it in the hallway. She was at work so I sent her a message saying I’ve temporarily put a bike in her hallway and it will be moved in about a weeks time. Didn’t hear anything back until evening when she messaged telling me to come and move the bike. I told her I had nowhere to put it until I sell my old one but reassured her I’d be cleaning it up over weekend and will list it on Monday.

Yesterday morning she sent another message saying her husband was fuming about the bike saying it was “ruining their hallway” and he wanted it moved. I said it will be moved asap.

This morning I got up to see my new bike sat in front of my house on the driveway. I’ve messaged her and she said she didn’t do it, her husband did. So I said I’m bringing it back as it can’t stay on the driveway because obviously it will get stolen!! Not to mention weather damage. She replied saying not to bring it back or her DH will simply leave it in the street.

Im fuming because there has been many times they have stored stuff at my house and I’ve had to just work around it.

Anyway they have a keyboard at my house and I’ve told her either the bike gets stored there for a few days max or the keyboard goes to live outside. She’s not replied yet.

AIBU?? I could get my bike sold by Wednesday.

A bike is a bit different to a keyboard!!! I think you’ve got a cheek doing that and I don’t blame her husband at all

SoScarletItWas · 19/04/2026 08:48

Your posts are all memorable because they’re all so bloody weird. You’re strangely enmeshed with your sister. Holidays, toilets, blowing out nephew’s candles, now using each other’s houses interchangeably. What a bizarre dynamic. Not surprised her DH is pissed off.

mindfulmoaning · 19/04/2026 08:48

Put your old bike in the garden and your new one in the hallway at your house.

Loulou4022 · 19/04/2026 08:48

You can’t just dump a bike in someone’s hallway without asking first! That’s beyond rude!
If you’re not happy about storing the keyboard long term then you should have said and asked them to move it

YABU

i would not store a bike in the hallway, as others have said- they get in the way and the handlebars can scuff paintwork. I’d be furious at the lack of consideration and not asking permission. I think I’d be a lot less annoyed if you’d left something in the garden without notice, but not in my house and in a place where it will get in the way and possibly cause damage.

You have a garden- why can’t your bike stay there? Or in any other room in your house. When you were asked to collect it, you were in no position to refuse and expect them just to suck it up. You should have collected it. And if your are so inclined, you could have dropped off the keyboard at the same time, thereby freeing up room for yiu to store your own bike.

The keyboard situation is different, as I’d have thought they would have to have asked you first, given it is the size of a piano. If you agreed to put it in your living room. then it is really not the same situation- plus a bike can be kept outside, secured (under cover/a tarp or plastic sheeting if it cannot stay outdoors for a short while), whereas a keyboard cannot. You would not be unreasonable to decline to store any more of their things in the future, that said.

Surely you can lock your bike in your own garden and put it under a tarp. No need to keep it at your sisters.

MissCooCooMcgoo · 19/04/2026 08:49

Put it in your own damn hallway!

Oh the candle blowing incident! This does add another level to a strange dynamic!

Maybe you and your sister need to pack in buying stuff you have no space for. Also, if you stopped storing stuff in each others houses then you’d have room for your own shit in your own house. Problem solved.
also, a bike will not get weather damage in less than a week. Get a tarp and chain it up outside. Christ.

I'm curious - how long have you been storing this keyboard and have they said when they're going to remove it?

You and your sister need to stop dumping stuff on each other's properties, its really bizarre. You can't just 'pop' a massive bike in someone's hallway without asking, its absurd . If you asked first and they refused, then you are in your rights to ask them to remove the keyboard/piano you've been storing for them.

And why is it with you? Have they said when they're going to remove it?

What in god’s name are you waffling on about?

You both need to stop storing things at each other's homes. You both have your own homes and this arrangement clearly isn't working any longer.

I also think you both need to change your locks. Grin

Right back at ya sweetie.

AliceNotInChains · 19/04/2026 08:11

Where exactly??

Anywhere it’s your bike you moron it’s not your sisters responsibility and your not entitled to use other peoples houses as a dumping ground and expect them to be ok with it a bike is different to a keyboard. Jesus Christ. Wake up and smell the coffee if I was your sister I’d be done with you and your spoilt ass

Lomonald · 19/04/2026 08:57

If you don't like her husband and it is likely to cause an argument between them why did you dump it in their house ?

OVienna · 19/04/2026 08:57

Ok if she is leaving stuff at your place too this is a big drip feed.

AliceNotInChains · 19/04/2026 08:14

Thank you! It wouldn’t even be a full week, a few days is all I’m asking. I did say a week initially but after the backlash I said I can sort it in a few days.

You didn’t “ ask” you just did it and also I’d give them their key back so you can’t just dump your shit again and again and expect it all to go your way

There is no possible way someone would continue to post ridiculous threads about their sister when they get this same response every time if they were a genuine poster

Delete away, mods. Sorry

Totally agree, its ridiculous you cant call out obvious bullshit

This too will be deleted.

Laserwho · 19/04/2026 08:58

Are you going to pay for any damage to the hallway? Or comfort their child if the massive bike falls onto them? Didn't think so. Dont be so entitled
