AIBU to expect my sister to store my bike briefly?

On Friday I bought a new bike off marketplace. I currently have my old bike in my hallway as I need to clean it up and sell it so I took my new bike to my sisters and popped it in the hallway. She was at work so I sent her a message saying I’ve temporarily put a bike in her hallway and it will be moved in about a weeks time. Didn’t hear anything back until evening when she messaged telling me to come and move the bike. I told her I had nowhere to put it until I sell my old one but reassured her I’d be cleaning it up over weekend and will list it on Monday.

Yesterday morning she sent another message saying her husband was fuming about the bike saying it was “ruining their hallway” and he wanted it moved. I said it will be moved asap.

This morning I got up to see my new bike sat in front of my house on the driveway. I’ve messaged her and she said she didn’t do it, her husband did. So I said I’m bringing it back as it can’t stay on the driveway because obviously it will get stolen!! Not to mention weather damage. She replied saying not to bring it back or her DH will simply leave it in the street.

Im fuming because there has been many times they have stored stuff at my house and I’ve had to just work around it.

Anyway they have a keyboard at my house and I’ve told her either the bike gets stored there for a few days max or the keyboard goes to live outside. She’s not replied yet.

AIBU?? I could get my bike sold by Wednesday.

A load of garden furniture is totally different to a fucking bike in the hallway. One is out of the way unless you choose to go in the garden, the other is absolutely in the way!

Why can't you put one of your bikes in said garden like a normal person?

Rainbowdottie · 19/04/2026 08:38

If your sister lived alone then I can see you’ve got a case to thrash out between the two of you as to why it can’t be stored there. But she doesn’t, there’s someone else to consider.
personally I wouldn’t be bothered by the bike just for a week but will it be a week? What if the bike isn’t sold? How big is their hallway? I’m imagining a very small narrow Victorian hallway and the bike is making it awkward to pass, get by, get in and out?

I dunno, I’m very laid back, I’d probably be like whatever 🤷‍♀️ for just a week especially if you’d helped me out too…equally I don’t think we can just expect people to be ok with stuff, not ask, not take into consideration the others living there etc

Thatcannotberight · 19/04/2026 08:38

You put their keyboard on your drive. That's a safe place to store it, right? That's where they thought your bike should be ok. Then you put your bike where the keyboard was. Job done.

What, for buying a bike and expecting my sister to help me store it for a few days? Yeah ok 🙄

No, because of your posting history.

Funny how you never, ever mention in your posts that you and your sister have a history where you clearly despise her.

euff · 19/04/2026 08:39

I would have said you were rude and very unreasonable until you said your sister has done same to you with various things. But obviously she can’t do that anymore as they haven’t appreciated it and don’t want to reciprocate. Is your BIL aware that your sister has dumped garden furniture in your garden etc?

Whaleandsnail6 · 19/04/2026 08:39

You are being very unreasonable.

Put the bike somewhere in your own property. Its temporary so put it anywhere... bedroom? Lounge? Kitchen?

And stop storing her stuff if you don't want to.

Each use your own property to store your own belongings and there won't be any further problem

Yeah you can't just dump an adult size bike in someone's hallway for a WEEK without asking! That's batshit. I know she's stored other things at yours and maybe that needs to stop but presumably she asked before she brought a piano sized keyboard into your living room?

Christ on a bike is more fitting, Surely? 😂

Ugh. You’re right! Disappointed in myself.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 19/04/2026 08:41

If you don’t have space for the new bike, you should not have bought it! Sell the old one first. Have you lost your common sense?

Laserwho · 19/04/2026 08:41

When my kids where young my hallway was used for my pram and other child related things. You are basically using space she needs.

Yeah they had a huge row over it as he didn’t want it in the first place. He refused to help her move it to their house so I helped her when she sorted her garden out.

So you have a garden that's safe enough to store garden furniture without it getting stolen, but you can't store your old bike in that same garden for a few days?

EmeraldShamrock000 · 19/04/2026 08:43

Get a grip. If she had room in her shed, you could have asked her first. Who wants a bike in their hallway, one they don’t even own.

No wonder he doesn't fucking like you 😂

Thehop · 19/04/2026 08:43

It was a piss take just leaving it in their hallway

they're CF to leave a keyboard at yours, leave it on their doorstep today!!!!

Weather damage plus a bike is easier to steal than a load of garden furniture !

Where exactly??

That's a you problem isn't it. You had a cheek dumping your bike at her house without asking. I'd have been fuming.

1980isitjustme · 19/04/2026 08:44

Have you spent the weekend sorting the old bike out then? Is it ready to list?

How did it transpire that you ended up with their a full size keyboard in your living room and how long has it been there? A bike in the hallway is a pain in the neck to be honest. I think it was wrong of you to put it there without asking first. I'm not sure why you've tolerated letting her dump unwanted outdoor furniture in your garden though. Are you sure she didn't do it because you didn't have any and she was genuinely of the belief that it would be welcomed by you?

Anyway, I think you need to stop this daft arrangement where you both enter one another's houses without prior permission and stop using them as storage depots. You have a garden so I honestly don't understand why you don't just store both bikes there. Tell her she has 48 hours to collect her keyboard or it's going in the street.

Auroraloves · 19/04/2026 08:45

If I was your sister I’d be asking for the key back, no you can’t expect her to store your massive muddy bike

Easy to solve, get a waterproof bike cover and lock up your bike.

Meadowfinch · 19/04/2026 08:46

If someone let themselves into my house and dumped a bike in my hallway, I'd be furious. Of course you can't do that. It's dirty, dangerous and completely unacceptable.
Put your bike in the garden under a plastic sheet, and give your sister's key back so you aren't tempted to be so absurd again.
