Just out of curiosity. I have friends who didn’t celebrate at all, but I also have some friends who are going on special holidays etc.

Went to Lanzarote, was also pregnant.

oldestmumaintheworld · 17/04/2026 21:09

Went to a bar with friends and met the man who became my husband! Ten years later on my 40th got drunk and ended up pregnant. Delighted.

msmandolin · 17/04/2026 21:10

I had a party at an underground cocktail and Jazz bar in Smithfield with about 15 friends - by far the trendiest I've ever felt!

GoldInYourSmile · 17/04/2026 21:11

My twin sister and I went to a Liam Gallagher gig, just the two of us. We were thrilled it was on the exact day!

Echobelly · 17/04/2026 21:12

I had a quite big afternoon into evening house party, as a few of our friends had small children by then at it was the easiest way to get everyone together. As it happened, I'd found out I was pregnant with our first the month before so I only had one glass of champagne. A female friend of DH's clocked I wasn't drinking, but she didn't mention that she'd realised until after I announced the pregnancy two months later.

It was lovely and I remember thinking 'This is a taste of things to come for get togethers for the next few years!' as people's little ones ran around my feet 😊

I wasn’t feeling 100% - went out for dinner me, my husband and my step daughter. I had a mocktail as couldn’t even face a glass of wine. Don’t feel like I missed a big life experience not doing anything ‘big’

DappledThings · 17/04/2026 21:13

It was on the day of the week we always did a pub quiz at the time so I did that as normal and made everyone pretend they didn't know it was a birthday because I hate it so much.

TheNameWasOnceChosen · 17/04/2026 21:13

I had a big surprise party.

openended · 17/04/2026 21:13

I had a few days away with dh and dd1 prior to my actual birthday and a meal with my inlaws. On the weekend I had a 30th birthday hosted by my mum and dad with all my family there. It was a fab night.

This year will be my 40th and I have 3 kids now so fancy a weekend away with dh and the kids and a family meal with inlaws, parents and siblings the weekend after. I'd prefer not to have extended family not because I don't love them but as there's so many of us it gets a bit much.

ExperiencedTeacher · 17/04/2026 21:14

Heavily pregnant with DS. My mum made me a cake. It was a very chilled one!

Comefromaway · 17/04/2026 21:14

I was 8 months pregnant with a 2 year old toddler so I think we went out for a quiet family meal.

madosaurus · 17/04/2026 21:15

I went to Miami Beach.

Confuserr · 17/04/2026 21:15

Had two parties the weekends either side
one a joint party with my childhood best mate (same bday as me!), back in our home town with friends and family. Hired a venue, got a DJ, snacks and drinks.
one in London where I had moved to, with newer friends & work friends, although loads of home friends came too. Booked a section of a nice bar/club with good music.
On my actual birthday - think I went for dinner with my DP and sister? Was prob keeping it low key due to the party sandwich.

StudyinBlue · 17/04/2026 21:15

Stayed in bed, hid under the duvet and cried. My 40th , 50th and 60th were much better!

Johnogroats · 17/04/2026 21:16

I had 2 exams. My fiancé who was working away rang to say he was in a 5* hotel in Singapore. I went out for dinner with friends! It’s 25 years ago and I remember pretty clearly. Not the best of birthdays 😂

Ookl · 17/04/2026 21:16

Mine was going to be a meal with dh at a Michelin Star restaurant just dh and I, however I was in the end getting cancer treatment which is nowhere near as fun as a fancy meal 😅, so we’re doing that this year for my 30th redo.

EmbarrassmentLovesCompany · 17/04/2026 21:17

Sat on the sofa, feeding 8 week old DS1.

Coldiron · 17/04/2026 21:19

I was on a course for work, none of the people on the course had met beforehand but my fellow attendees managed to organise a birthday cake for me!

phoenixrosehere · 17/04/2026 21:19

Went to France, Germany, and Switzerland through Basel, Switzerland, spent more days traveling through Switzerland by train visiting Lucerne and Zurich with DH and DS1 who was almost 2 at the time. I like to travel for my birthdays and/or do or see something I haven’t before.

MrsMouse03 · 17/04/2026 21:21

Me and my fella went to a beautiful restaurant in Scotland (stayed for the weekend) and had an amazing meal including the best scallops I’ve ever eaten

RS1987 · 17/04/2026 21:21

I had a gathering in a pub, nothing too big as I also had a hen party 2 months later.

GardenCovent · 17/04/2026 21:24

Went to Ibiza

AllaMova · 17/04/2026 21:25

Notreallyawaitress · 17/04/2026 20:56

Had to work, cried quite a lot I think - only ‘big’ birthday that I was upset about.

I hear you. I’m dreading the thought of being 30, it feels so official to me…

Had a poached egg on toast and cried for a few hours.
40 and 50 have been absolutely fine!

Berlinlover · 17/04/2026 21:30

Went to Dublin for the day with my brother. He passed away less than four years later.
