Just out of curiosity. I have friends who didn’t celebrate at all, but I also have some friends who are going on special holidays etc.

33 years ago now but I remember I went to Stalis in Crete with my ex. We had a lovely week, a fabulous meal and went to a bar where I remember dancing on a table to Break On Through by the Doors. Such a great birthday.

Floundering66 · 17/04/2026 22:35

I did a city break with my partner, a
posh afternoon tea with my mum and a night out with my friends.

Nopenott0day · 17/04/2026 22:35

I had a new sword. Absolutely gorgeous

Is that a euphemism?

BeMellowAquaSquid · 17/04/2026 22:42

I got pregnant.

BeMellowAquaSquid · 17/04/2026 22:42

Norugratsatall · 17/04/2026 22:32

I got pregnant!

Same!

Alarae · 17/04/2026 22:49

Went to Disneyland Paris with DH and DD. Definitely more for me (but seeing DD, who was 2.5, be amazed at the magic filled my heart) and had an amazing time. We got a half board plan so got to try various on-site restaurants and did the character dinner one day which was fun, as I wasn’t waiting 2 hours for a character!

Week after I visited family and they surprised me with a themed afternoon tea with everyone.

I felt very lucky.

7238SM · 17/04/2026 23:01

Now DH and I went to Prague for my 30th (he was a boyfriend at the time).

sesquipedalian · 17/04/2026 23:02

Went out for dinner at a Chinese restaurant. DD was born five days later.

Holiday with DP and DC
I am not a party person at all and love to travel so every milestone birthday involves a holiday!

farmlass · 17/04/2026 23:47

Had a 6 month old baby . I think we went out for a Mexican meal with friends
“the baby “ is now 30 and I’m planning something for my 60th in the summer.

OneNewEagle · 18/04/2026 00:01

It was years ago for me. I’m in my 50s now.

I had my one and only weekend away in another country, I went to Sweden just for two nights.

I did nothing for my 40th even though I had a DP by then. Very disappointing.

and I was dreading turning 50. Once again did nothing as expected by now from my dp as it seems my birthdays don’t count. My friend was supposed to be seeing me but cancelled. But I did a whole list of things before and after turning 50. Read 50 books, 50 hobby related things and so on. Also saved up for a shed for my garden.

enjoy your birthday x

It was lockdown so absolutely nothing. I was so sad. I'm not over it yet!
I love parties.
Being on my 40th!

Muteduck · 18/04/2026 00:12

I got an early night.

EmmaStone · 18/04/2026 00:39

DH and my birthdays are only a few months apart, so for his 30th, I did a treat night in London (we lived there, so getting a hotel and a fancy meal was pretty indulgent), followed by a house party with friends that has become quite legendary. For mine a few months later, I was in early pregnancy with DC1, and DH took us to Venice.

For our 40ths, we went to NYC (he also went to Vegas with mates, and I had a lunch with loads of friends).

For our 50ths we had a massive party at a local hotel and had about 100 people come. We danced like we were in our 20s still, but with our grown up children, was amazeballs.

I love all the books written by the Brontë sisters. Went to Haworth for a few days and did lots of gorgeous walks on the moors. It was dreamy. Also got my nose pierced.

That’s so lovely!

I saw Joseph at the theatre and went to a seafood restaurant in London with my husband, we had a baby being looked after by my parents so we were back to collect him before midnight!

TheHouse · 18/04/2026 00:59

Had a night out in Stratford with my husband. It pissed it down… had loads of cocktails. We went back to the hotel and had some great sex! 🥳. Nearly 40 now….

eachtigertires · 18/04/2026 02:25

Nothing because it was in the middle of Covid

I don’t remember! My 30th was decades ago, and I really don’t think it was considered a special ‘thing’ in those days.

I agree. People made a "thing" of 18, 21 and 40, but not 30 back then.

mellongoose · 18/04/2026 06:14

Went camping in north Devon with a load of friends. Such a fun weekend!

Globules · 18/04/2026 06:22

Went to IKEA with my 4 day old daughter.

Imisscoffee2021 · 18/04/2026 06:25

Went to York with my husband and our friends, we stayed in a 5* hotel for a treat and ate and drank well, had a long hike in the Yorkshire countryside, spa etc. Loved it ❤️

IfyouStealMySunshine · 18/04/2026 06:33

Went out for a meal with a couple of friends but was actually a surprise birthday meal with about 25 people there. Was really nice.

38woman · 18/04/2026 06:38

I saw Girls Aloud in Manchester

Listlostlast · 18/04/2026 06:40

We were meant to be going away for the first time just me and DH since having a child (DS was 2ish) but I’d smashed up my leg a few weeks before so instead I was on crutches and we went for dinner in our local pub 😂
We did a spa weekend once my leg was better, but it’s not quite the same as a week in the sun 😂
I threw a big party for DH when he turned 30. Marquee in one of our fields, DJ til the small hours etc.
