Just out of curiosity. I have friends who didn’t celebrate at all, but I also have some friends who are going on special holidays etc.

I left my toddlers with my mam and dad and spent a few days in Vegas with DH. Swiftly approaching another big one and hoping to spend it somewhere in the far east… I have a family member who never made it to 30 so I never feel sad about getting old, I celebrate every single one. London sounds lovely, have a great time!

I did a pregnancy test and found I was expecting DS1!
If it hadn't have been my big birthday, I'd have waited a day or 2 to do the test, but couldn't resist trying!
We also had uni friends come over and stay the night and had a really lovely dinner at home.

It was thirty five years ago but I still remember! My XH and I went out for a posh meal, leaving 20 month son and two month old daughter with a friend.

Unfortunately DD didn't sleep at ALL and I was so exhausted that the fancy restaurant was wasted on me. I just wanted eight hours sleep.

I had a surprise party which wasn’t actually a surprise as I had taken a phone call from the venue months before where they said they were returning a call about a surprise 30th 🙄 to this day my parents still don’t know I knew! Plus surprise parties aren’t my thing! My 40th was better as it was in the first Covid lockdown! A friend came to drop my present off and we had a socially distanced chat on the street, then I had an M&S afternoon tea in the garden with mum & dad (lived together at the time) then went for a walk in the evening with another friend. 40th was my favourite!

Hired a club and had a joint birthday party with a mate then ‘afters’ back at mine till 2pm the next day.

I had a rock n roll themed party. Complete with pink Cadillac cake, inflatable jukebox and Elvis cardboard cutouts. We drank lots and ate chilli dogs

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/04/2026 16:52

My friends threw me a party I didn't want! However my best friend met my cousin for the first time an 30 years on they are still together, married and have 5 boys!! So in hindsight was a great thing!

I was pregnant with ds1. We had a bbq in the garden for close family and friends and Dh took me to Paris. It was booked before we knew I was pregnant which wasn’t great planning as I couldn’t drink wine, eat rare steak or most cheese, but it was still lovely. He felt ds kick for the first time in our hotel bedroom ☺️(said ds is now 20 <sigh>)

Went out for a Middle Eastern meal with friends. Nothing special for 40 though. Meal with husband.

NoSoupForU · 19/04/2026 17:50

knockyknees · 19/04/2026 20:08

Had a miscarriage.

Skibbgirl · 20/04/2026 15:25

Spent the day at home with two small children, while my workaholic (now ex) husband went to work (it was a Sunday!)

NotMeNorI · 24/04/2026 15:36

Husband took me to London for the night and we saw a few shows. I haven't had a birthday party since my 21st!

For my husband's 30th I booked a surprise trip to Rome and did a scavenger hunt the day before we left, ending in an Italian cafe, where I gave him the tickets!

00deed1988 · 24/04/2026 15:39

Went for Toby carvery breakfast with my DH, kids, mum and siblings. Handed off the kids to my mum. Went for a few drinks up London, theatre show and then a nice meal that booked on wowcher. My birthday is same week as my husbands and our anniversary so we always try to so something if we can. 40th in 2 years so going to try a once in a lifetime holiday!

Violinist64 · 24/04/2026 16:03

I was thirty a long time ago and I don't remember anyone making anything much of thirtieth birthdays in the nineties. Apart from anything else, I had two small children and we had very little money plus my birthday is just before Christmas so l did not feel the need to do anything out of the ordinary.

Redkatagain · 24/04/2026 19:46

Had a party shared with my best friend. Party was on their actual birthday. (Was also NYE so awesome night)
