To suspect police are worried about vigilantes - Epsom attack

I live relatively close to Epsom and so this appalling assault is all over my news feeds and social media.

BBC News - Town left in shock by appalling rape outside church
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8dl5yevjg9o

The police have asked for witnesses but no descriptions have been given. Cue lots of very disturbing posts and comments from people who very clearly think these men are not white.

I can think of half a dozen scenarios where this is not being disclosed but, based on the comments, I think it all comes down to fears that local communities will take it on themselves to "apprehend" anyone who even vaguely looks like the perpetrators? And while the comments I am seeing are mostly white people being disgusting in their assumptions about brown and black people, i can imagine police would he equally concerned if, for example, the woman was Asian or Black and her attackers were white.

Is this where we are at? Where people make horrible racist assumptions and/or where police have to worry about how they will protect the broader community if they give any details of criminals?

A church built with stone. There is a sign in front of the building.

Epsom left in shock by appalling rape outside church

Helen Maguire says she is "appalled" by the incident outside Epsom Methodist Church on Saturday.

And the previous poster has asked you to explain that to her.

No the person asked if the parameters of population groups are not also socially constructed in context of the discussion on DNA. Given that one’s “race” can change from country to country but one’s DNA profiles does not - that answers the question.

IamRedCrossnotJesus · 16/04/2026 18:53

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 16/04/2026 18:52

Okay. Push all of that to one side. What links does Google give you when you enquire as to the Stockport killer’s parents nationalities? Are you getting The Guardian number one and the BBC number two?

Nope.

Chocaholick · 16/04/2026 18:53

Question is why haven’t they released descriptions?

She asked you a series of questions that you pushed on to me.

Surely population groups are just as much socially constructed as race groups?
What's the difference bewteen a population group and a race?
(You introduced the concept of population group so you can distinguish it from what you meann by race)

I'm from Epsom. I grew up there. I gave birth to my first child there. My parents still live there. I had to call them and warn them not to go into town yesterday evening because of the aggressive atmosphere being created by a bunch of racists. I watched the feed - full if F this, see you next Tuesday, Keir Starmer is a W*er. At one point there were chants of "who raped the girl". The atmosphere was absolutely awful on the live feed last night. Had I been in town with my children, I would have swiftly moved away due to fear for our safety. Many of the people there weren't even from Epsom. Those there didn't seem to have an ounce Of intelligence or critical thinking skills. They didn't represent the vast majority of Epsom residents who are law abiding and happy to let the police do their job.

The attackers may be immigrants. They may not be. It's up to the police or to investigate. The most ridiculous thing I read was they are clearly immigrants because someone told someone else they were wearing flip flops and no British person would wear flip flops at this time of year!

I hope your parents stay safe. A friend of mine lives there with her sister and her nieces / nephews. They are nervous too.

Two seconds of googling would no doubt give you a Guardisn link that would tell you fuck all.

It took me straight to migranthotels.net which is a site used by, and updated by antimigrant protestors.

What? I did not push the questions onto you. I made clear the context of why no, population groups are not socially constructed when we are discussing DNA.

I don’t know why you struggle to follow the normal flow of posts. But you are also the person who has a strange Google search engine so….🤷🏽‍♀️

It was the second link in the response to the question “where are uk migrant hotels located”

I obviously ignore all the AI guff and the ‘Top stories’ and just scroll down to the search results.

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 16/04/2026 19:02

I can't believe it, Epsom was my home town. I'm going back 40 years. I knew Ashley Road really well one of my school friends lived further up towards the downs in that road.

Riot Police! Even when the Derby was on which according to my mother attracted "a lot of peculiar people" I don't remember anything this awful attack happening.

Chocaholick · 16/04/2026 18:53

Maybe the victim hasn't given them a full description or doesn't have full recollection what with her being traumatised. It seems to me that in the clammer by certain sections of the community, to have the rapists skin colour made public, that poor woman's emotional state has been forgotten about. Imagine going through what she has gone through and all anyone cares about is the colour of her attackers skin.

Sooooooo …. ooops we’re back to the reputational damage tactic again. She’s a bit simple. She’s a bit thick. She’s a bit racist. Can’t follow posts and can’t use google.

You are so busy trying to be right and win an argument that you’ve forgotten how to have a conversation. Take a deep breath and assume we’re all just talking. It’s okay to hear a difference of opinion. It’s not offensive and it isn’t literal violence. You can just hear it and still hang into your own beliefs.

Nobody has said that (although you claimed your Google was censoring what you can see) - but clearly you are not a good faith poster. So I shall leave it at that.

Katie Piper (the one whose ex paid somebody to throw acid in her face) but a similar observation in her biography (fantastic book).

She was reading some site and stories about her attack and said she found it disturbing how for so many commenting the worst thing about her attack was the skin tone of the man that ordered it.

The Home Office do not record the ethnicity of perpetrators of crime in the UK.
They only record the ethnicity of victims.

I think if we knew the truth there would be civil war.

It certainly makes you wonder why they don't record the ethnicity and nationality of perpetrators.

How many pages of rape gang posts would you like in response to your post ? - there are literally hundreds, thousands even, of victims

Of course the ONS publishes statistics on ethnicity of offenders.

It’s not obtuse. It’s a statement of fact. He wasn’t a migrant.
What is obtuse is your suggestion that anybody with an immigrant parent becomes an immigrant themself and their actions become down to “immigration”.

It’s a complete red herring to mention migration when discussing AR. He was born, raised and socialised here.

Edited

Maybe they're just too shy to say that when they say immigrant they actually mean black.

Edit: grammar
