AIBU / Ridiculous re putting extra mileage on my car

DH works from home, I work full time in the office. He is having major car trouble and will be without a car for the next few weeks. Obviously he doesn't need a car for work but he has a hobby that he travels to so is using my car morning and evening to do this. It's a 40 mile round trip, twice a day so means that he's putting over 500 miles extra on my car every week! I think he should cut back to once a day until he gets his own car back and he thinks I am being very unreasonable as it will only be for 3/4 weeks.

I WILL NOT BE DISCLOSING WHAT THE HOBBY IS! (I don't want to out myself and it's really really not relevant to my question)

That was my guess too!

cosplay?! No one is doing that a 5.30 am every day!

Hey! Don’t you judge those furries!

It’s for a few weeks. So won’t be 24k

But he does do 24k miles per annum in his own car for the hobby, no wonder the car will take a month to fix

Do you think in the 2 days and 500 comments since I said this originally that no one has pointed that out.... 🤔 Or that youre the first to realise?

Thank you. I meant additional, I typed annual. I'm dyslexic and post menopausal - words get mixed.

Anyway, have a brilliant Saturday, hope its filled with sunshine.

Its ok to make mistakes.
They will be pointed out. You need to be ready to take the consequences. Its ridiculous when you react in such an irritated tone. Noone is going to check the whole thread just to check out if you realised you have typed a wrong word.

DoubleEspressoForMe · 12/04/2026 09:42

I've never understood this attitude. What are cars for if not to put miles on?! Its like saving something for best and never using it. The whole purpose of a car is to cover miles. I'm honestly always baffled by this attitude. Although I suppose if its hire purchase or finance and has a amount of miles you can do before you have to pay extra charges, thats perhaps different. But you've not mentioned that and for a few weeks it shouldn't make a massive difference.

Suffice to say, You’re a bit late to the thread, its already been pointed out.

And “consequences” for a word mixup feels a tad dramatic.

Are you married, or not? You have a shared household, so you should be expecting to share things.

With the husband working full time & at a hobby twice a day is he sharing the housework, gardening, looking after kids etc, I highly doubt it

Just like you’ve “taken the consequences” for your post? Give over.

That has literally nothing to do with the original issue.

I don't have a strong opinion about the car mileage but I am sure I won't be the only one agog about a hobby he does twice a day, every day. Potentially HIBU for that.

I'm presuming he has to unlock/lock every day whatever it is.

You were the one said about a shared household & sharing things.
