Do I look overweight?

Do I look overweight? I’m the one in grey. I’ve had two kids and I think I might have let my weight run away with me, but as a typical woman I want to know if I’m being over critical? Please be honest

Do I look overweight?
OP posts:

You look lovely. You also have a bit of tummy, unsurprisingly after 2 kids. No need to make any changes unless you want to.

popdepop · 05/04/2026 22:46

going off how you look is subjective. What is your bmi? How do you feel?

forgivingfiggy · 05/04/2026 22:56

I don’t think you would think you looked overweight in darker coloured clothes. Paler jeans tend to draw your eye differently. You look good.

SplendiferousKnickers · 05/04/2026 23:11

You don't look overweight at all. But...there's a big black square growing on your face. You need to take action soon, before it turns into a parallelogram.

PinotPony · 05/04/2026 23:16

How old are you OP?

I’m reminded of a famous quote (was it Catherine O’Hara?) about looking back at photos when you’re older and realising that you were a thing of beauty.

I’m 52 now and realise that I had a great figure at 20, 30 and 40 but never appreciated it at the time. Trust me, when you’re 50, you’ll love the body you have now.

stitchy · 05/04/2026 23:25

You look great, not overweight at all just healthy and active.

For years I just assumed I was overweight and then one day did my bmi and discovered I was in the normal range. I was genuinely surprised but a teenage eating disorder really messed up my perceptions of myself.

It's so easy to develop as skewed idea of your own size, what other people see is often very different. Mumsnet is shocking for nutso ideas of weight and performative under-eating imo - and I say that as a person who has problems in this dept.

Seriously, you look great.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 05/04/2026 23:27

I think you look good, OP. I'd be happy with your bod

Xmasbaby11 · 05/04/2026 23:42

I think you look healthy op, and from that snapshot I'd say nearer slim than overweight. Certainly not noticeable overweight from that glance.

Size 12 is very likely to be a healthy weight so don't be too hard on yourself. However, if you feel unhappy being bigger than usual, it might make you feel better to work on it. But you do not look overweight and there is no need to feel self conscious.

Jane143 · 05/04/2026 23:42

Size 12 can never be overweight

Teenageboymum · 05/04/2026 23:49

I wish I was as “overweight” as you think you are 😂

focus on being happy not the scales xx

You know the answer. You aren’t overweight. Not sure why you want validation.

5to5 · 06/04/2026 00:18

No you look normal

Blueshoey484 · 06/04/2026 00:19

FuchsiaFlingo · 05/04/2026 19:33

Well, yes but you look good. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Everyone here will say “no no, you have a lovely waist and you’re perfect.”

You’re not thin. But that’s also fine. Be healthy, drink plenty of water and enjoy the time with your children.

Sorry what. They aren't overweight by any stretch of the imagination

Booboobagins · 06/04/2026 00:41

If you're 5'5" or taller and size 12, you are unlikely to be top end of BMI.

If your 5' size 12 then you may be.

You look fine in the pic but if you're unhappy take up weight training. It'll tone you up and no need for fad dieting. Add in some aerobics (3*15mins a week) and you'll be back in a size 10 in a matter of weeks. Take it easy after this though cos you may not look so great at size 8 or 6...

Savvysix1984 · 06/04/2026 00:47

I think you look really normal with a great figure but your casual outfit doesn’t show your real figure. Your jeans are too big but perhaps you’re between sizes.

H202too · 06/04/2026 00:48

You look fine. Not fat at all. Not skinny but normal.

I am fascinated though. What are you doing? An egg and spoon race?

Anywherebuthere · 06/04/2026 00:48

Yes you do, just a little. But your clothes seem to fit you well so you look good.

Only you know how much of a change it is for you as you know your previous weight and what you are now. Only you know if your clothes sizing has changed in any way.

Don't worry about what others think. Decide if you are happy with how you look or if you are not and want to do something about it.

SnowFrogJelly · 06/04/2026 00:52

🙄

Uppitymuppity · 06/04/2026 00:52

You look a bit fuller, if that makes sense, but definitely overweight

Appleblum · 06/04/2026 02:09

Yes you do look slightly overweight. But you also look nice.

Laladixieland · 06/04/2026 05:02

Honestly, OP - I often get called ‘thin’, and I know if I wore that outfit, I would look a lot bigger than you!

I know how to dress for my shape. I have a massively hefty bum and thighs….jeans and a sweatshirt would be horrendous for me. As it is, I wear lots of dresses and skirts which suit me. I am a pear shape, so this works.

Your thighs in those tight pale jeans are far slimmer than mine would be, and I don’t think you look overweight at all. But if you don’t like the look of the photo, you could think about dressing a bit differently?

Just a suggestion…but you have nothing to worry about, OP.

HelmholtzWatson · 06/04/2026 05:39

Do you "look overweight", no.

Are you overweight? Yes.

iamnotalemon · 06/04/2026 06:12

You look like you’re having a nice day with your family. If you didn’t feel overweight before posting, you’re going to feel worse after some of these comments!

TheEveningReport · 06/04/2026 06:14

I don’t see it at all. I’d say you look perfect. Size 12, bmi 23 maybe. That is not overweight!

G5000 · 06/04/2026 07:08

I find all the comments about looking back and longing for this figure a bit odd.
So basically you're saying that 'Hey OP, you may be at top end of healthy weight now, but don't you worry, you will be properly overweight soon!'
