Would you expect another evening meal after a 4pm pub roast?

If you had a pub roast dinner at 4pm; would you expect to have a dinner that evening?

Please settle an argument with my DH…

No wonder the likes of Mounjaro are best sellers. Some people are just obsessed with eating whether hungry or not. OK, if peckish about 10 or later, assuming dinner was over about 6, then have something, no problem but cook or make it yourself!

I expect people to be grown ups and decide if they need to eat. It’s not fo me to judge others based on my own body’s needs.

How would you feel if they expected you to cook another dinner for them? Which is, I suspect, the issue the OP is currently facing.😂

Candleabra · 05/04/2026 18:29

No of course not

Daleksatemyshed · 05/04/2026 18:29

Not a chance I'd cook again if I'd eaten a roast dinner at 4. If your DH is hungry he can find a snack

Glittertwins · 05/04/2026 18:30

no I wouldn’t and I’m pretty sure my dustbin tendencies DC would either.

familyissues12345 · 05/04/2026 18:30

No! My DH would though, he’d feel like he’d been short changed if he didn’t have another meal.

Persobally I listen to my body, if I’m hungry I eat, if I’m not I don’t, or just have some toast later 😁

Shinyhappyapple · 05/04/2026 18:31

I would have a snack mid evening.
But I do remember some years back when we used to go out for our Sunday lunch when DS was younger. We would get back home and DH would ask what’s for tea 🙄
Nowadays we would just sort our own snacks as we became hungry.

purpleme12 · 05/04/2026 18:31

Obviously not

converseandjeans · 05/04/2026 18:31

No but I would probably want cheese & biscuits or a sandwich around 9pm.

BlackBean2023 · 05/04/2026 18:32

No, but apparently my DD expects dinner after a HUGE 2pm lunch with pudding and is ready to call social services on me for offering her toast… 🤣

BrendaSmall · 05/04/2026 18:32

I wouldn’t, I wouldn’t even eat again until the next morning if I had a meal at lunch time, my husband would get himself something around 6/7 pm though if he had something at 4!

BettyBoh · 05/04/2026 18:33

Something easy that each person gets for themselves around 9pm ish: cheese and crackers, ryvita and cottage cheese, banana and yoghurt, Bowl of cereal or marmite on toast etc

Caterina99 · 05/04/2026 18:33

No but my kids would probably want something later. They’d be given toast or cereal or similar

CrispySquid · 05/04/2026 18:35

Absolutely not. Maybe a little light snack much later if I was feeling peckish like cheese on toast or some crisps or some popcorn or something but another full meal, absolutely not.

ReignOfError · 05/04/2026 18:35

God, no. My husband, however, probably would want something like an omelette, or cheese on toast. Obviously, he’d make his own.

This. I probably wouldn't be hungry but might eat something if I fancied it.

What is the actual disagreement OP ?

Because I suspect there's more to it than a mere difference of opinion. I'm trying not to assume that its about your DH expecting you to cook him an evening meal even though you're not hungry but is it something like this? He wants more food but wouldn't go as far as preparing it himself?

We had lunch at 2pm and it was a massive roast I’m not overly hungry but I’ve got some cheeses, biscuits, grapes, pickles and then some Easter cakes the kids made so just bits to snack on.

I will refrain from using the term “picky bits” as it boils my blood!

I HATE the word snack but am grateful to you for not using “picky bits”.

“Nibbles” is another annoying one.

‘Pension pots’ boils mine.

Lavender14 · 05/04/2026 18:37

No just snacky bits or cheese on toast if hungry later. But it would depend on what else I'd eaten that day and what the portion size is like in the pub.

Villanousvillans · 05/04/2026 18:37

Perhaps a slice of toast, later in the evening?

BMW6 · 05/04/2026 18:37

I love my food and am overweight but absolutely no!
I'd have a slice of toast or a few crackers with a little cheese around 10pm but nothing like a full meal!
Whoever is wanting more can get themselves a bag of chips or cook themselves something.

SatsumaDog · 05/04/2026 18:37

I wouldn’t have another meal, but maybe a small snack before bed.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 05/04/2026 18:39

If I'm paying £25 each for a roast so I don't have to cook then we're not having dinner PURELY because I'm sure as shit not cooking.

I'll probably eat something later, toast, cheese, chocolate, calorie wise it'll probably add up to a meal but I won't be cooking (and I don't care what DP or DC do tbh)

inickedthisname · 05/04/2026 18:40

No. Maybe toast or another snack along those lines like others have mentioned.

Catcatcatcatcat · 05/04/2026 18:41

No
