£30 Easter budget

Okayfolks · 05/04/2026 11:43

My friend just told me her and her husband spend £30 each on each other on Easter eggs.

She’d prefer a nicer one and some small bits and he’d prefer lots of mid sized ones so he had about 8 eggs.

AIBU to think this is insane?

They have no kids.

Sorry, what? You think it's insane for two working adults to have a fun budget?

Teenagerantruns · 05/04/2026 11:44

Seems ok to me if that is,what they want? We are going out for lunch today and will spend about the same?

TeddyOBear · 05/04/2026 11:45

I think it’s lovely. If they can afford it and it makes them happy, good luck to them. I enjoy spoiling my husband at times and I know he does me too.

havingoneofthosedays · 05/04/2026 11:46

Think this is great!

edwinbear · 05/04/2026 11:47

DH isn’t bothered about chocolate, so I bought him a £30 bottle of wine to have with his lamb. I do like chocolate and he spent about the same on a really nice egg for me. I spent about £30 each on the kids eggs too. I don’t think £30 each on a present for family members is particularly excessive.

LastHotel · 05/04/2026 11:47

What’s insane? Have they spent too little? Too much? Have they bought the wrong things?

Okayfolks · 05/04/2026 11:47

It feels a bit show off and what adult needs ten eggs from their partner? That isn’t including any they’ll get from other people.

They always go over the top with spending insane amounts at Christmas too.

Why is it insane? I think it’s lovely when people have little things that make them happy. It’s not hurting or affecting anyone else so how can you possibly object?

PoliteSquid · 05/04/2026 11:49

Quite the opposite to the conversation DH and I had yesterday - “Can I just check you haven’t got me any eggs?” “No, of course not, why have you?” “No” 🤣🤣😂

edited to say… we do treat ourselves/each other to nice things. Just not on this occasion!!

Needmorelego · 05/04/2026 11:49

If you can afford it then £30 isn't bad for a few treats.
I got a couple of easter themed Lego sets and some small chocolate eggs so probably around £30 in total.
I don't see the issue 🤷

RosesAndHellebores · 05/04/2026 11:49

They can spend their money how they like. DH and I would orefer to buy better qualoty chocolate in bar form for half the price without the hype. However we are an unromantic tight pair of buggers.

B1anche · 05/04/2026 11:51

Wha does it matter to you?

It's not something I would spend money on but who cares what other people do.

ThroughTheRedDoor · 05/04/2026 11:52

Hang on. Not including eggs they'll get from other people? I dont think I've ever bought an adult an easter egg apart from dh. How many eggs from other people will they get? Fascinating.

My friend and I buy each other an Easter egg.

redskyAtNigh · 05/04/2026 11:55

Lots of people spend insane amounts of money on things I think are pointless.

But, if they can afford it, are happy to do it, and it gives them pleasure, then why not? I actually don't even think £30 is an insane amount of money - if you want a "nicer" egg they can easily be around that price.

Pinklightning · 05/04/2026 11:57

Is this the same mumsnet that thinks it’s ridiculous to want a little bit of a fuss-a card and small inexpensive gift- for your birthday if you’re an adult? This place gets crazier by the day lately.

hazelberry · 05/04/2026 11:58

It's not your money they are spending so not sure what it has to do with you.

backagainohdear · 05/04/2026 12:00

Tis fine! My husband brought some easter eggs for himself, i brought myself a new jumper & a packet of chocolate buttons as I don’t like easter eggs. 😂

I buy my parents an egg.

Very judgey. It's their money, they earned it. My dh loves chocolate, I always enjoy seeing him arrive home with an Easter Egg. He gets great joy out of it. There is so much crap going on these days, this not something I could get upset about.

It's weird that you are tuned into how much they spend at Christmas too. So what if they dont have kids, does that mean they should not indulge a bit?

Smartiepants79 · 05/04/2026 12:04

But it’s their money and their choice. Why do you care? It’s not drugs!

Owly11 · 05/04/2026 12:05

What's insane? Are you saying you never spend £30 on anyone? Not even your partner, kids, parents?

Motheranddaughter · 05/04/2026 12:05

My DH and I boughr each other eggs
I spent. £25 on his , he got me a posh one which probably cost a bit more
I think that’s a perfectly ok amount to spend

trainkeepsgoing · 05/04/2026 12:06

Lucky them!

pruningmybush · 05/04/2026 12:06

It's thirty pounds, its hardly the height of decadence
