Easter egg hunt at 6.30am

Both the parents outside with the kids, several kids running around screaming at 6.30am. Do people have no shame?

This is a thing now? Children waking up at the crack of dawn looking for the chocolate the Easter Bunny has brought? The whole EB thing passed me by but even for those that do do it I didn't realise it was becoming as big a deal as Father Christmas.

I've never heard anyone say their children woke up particularly early at Easter.

Why not? If they're up and excited might as well get it out the way.

My neighbours made a rammy til late last night so I have my TV up full volume from 6.30am this morning. They can enjoy an action film along with our family 🙂

Despite my many years of posting, I’ve not ever said, first post nails it… WinkGrin

OMG and where’s the Mumsnet bunny wink/grin/shock?!! Shock

H202too · 05/04/2026 07:54

I don't understand why people hide them in the garden, especially after storm Dave. Always have hidden them in the house here. It is much more considerate. Better for parents too.

I don't think it's lazy parenting but definitely inconsiderate. But then it is once a year and very important religiously.

Doesn’t the sound of children’s laughter fill you with joy on this beautiful spring morning?!

Love this reply. Oh yes😂

My kid (an early riser anyway) woke up at 5 fizzing with excitement on WORLD BLOODY BOOK DAY. She loves a special day. Obviously one with chocolate is going to get her even more excited.

Im impressed we managed to keep her in bed till gone 6 this morning - albeit with one earlier wake up.

Saynototheinevitable · 05/04/2026 08:00

Invite all your friends round for an Easter rave tonight starting at 8pm ending at 2am. Crank the music up loud and point the speakers towards the direction of your neighbours. They disturbed you at 6am so gloves off in my opinion.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 05/04/2026 08:02

Children running around outside having a good time - great.

But why do they need to do it at 6.30? There is the whole of the rest of the day available for egg hunts. They could even do it after a nice special Easter breakfast. There is no need for it to be at dawn (unless they are going to leave in ten minutes to spend the day elsewhere, in which case I might give them a pass). But, in that case, what's wrong with an indoor egg hunt?

Children getting up early is unavoidable (I had a whole host of early risers). But there's no immediate 'need' to get outdoors or to hunt eggs. Leave it for a bit and feed the blighters first otherwise they will be grouchy and crying by 10am and won't want to eat any normal food because they will have been chugging down chocolate since dawn.

What’s a rammy?

Rileysp · 05/04/2026 08:04

I may be in a minority here. I have young kids…..

firstly I wouldn’t do it. But. 6.30 isn’t an unreasonable time. There’s always noise at that time. Birds/dogs/cars etc. it’s a normal time to get up.

secondly, how long will it last? Ten mins? Certainly less time than it takes to read this thread

thirdly. Kids are probably asleep by 7.30. Would the poster think they’d go in during the summer because of this. Doubt it.

worldshottestmom · 05/04/2026 08:04

Kids can have their fun at 9am, who on earth is doing an easter egg hunt at half 6 on a Sunday 😭 give it a rest

fiorentina · 05/04/2026 08:04

I’d have felt very selfish doing that with my kids. We wouldn’t have done it so early. But I also wouldn’t let my kids just scream in the garden - if they did they came inside to calm down. I try and be a considerate neighbour.

That’s just really peevish though isn’t it. The egg hunt will take like 7 minutes.

more then that. It’s just a bit nasty

A lot of noise. A noise nuisance.

Caspianberg · 05/04/2026 08:05

My Ds didn’t wake anyone at 6.30am when he went out. We don’t have any neighbours that live that close and back onto a woodland. He also manages to do things like this without screaming. He was just excited and went outside with a basket to find some real coloured eggs ( needed those back for breakfast), and some chocolate.

We saw two dog walkers walk past our house with dogs barking loudly. I could hear the real
chickens from neighbours at the end of the street, and someone car doors banging.
No one was disturbed by a small child

Rammy, noisy disturbance

I’ve no issue with anyone being in thier garden early but the screaming which so many kids seem to need to do isn’t good.
Laugh and chat but no need to scream like you are in a slasher movie.

SpringAndSunshineIsHere · 05/04/2026 08:06

It’s completely antisocial op. What selfish neighbors you have! Not sure who these nutters are who think screaming kids in a garden at 6:30am is ok. It’s clearly not!

benten54 · 05/04/2026 08:08

Caspianberg · 05/04/2026 06:52

I think it’s fine.
Its a bit of fun for 5 mins for kids
It’s only once a year.

God I hate this kind of thinking.
“it’s just a few minutes for the kiddies”
I don’t care about the ‘kiddies’. Do it later ffs.

Yeah, I'm surprised by this too. We always did an Easter Egg hunt, which our kids loved, but it was after lunch. They definitely weren't waking up early with anticipation and excitement.

Also surprised by the number of people who think it's OK for kids to wake up the neighbours early. It's sort of ironic really, considering it's Easter and Jesus' whole shtick was about loving your neighbour as yourself. I say that as an atheist, but I agree with the sentiment!

BarMonaco · 05/04/2026 08:11

"Daddy I want to scream in the garden NOW!!"
"Of course darling. Anything you say darling."
