My friend was so naturally pretty - I’d even say stunning. Lots of people have said the same . She’s recently had a cosmetic procedure and also lip fillers- I hate to say it - but it looks awful. I hope I didn’t look shocked when I saw her. Aibu to just wonder why on Earth she would do that to herself. I was lost for words- other people have apparently said the same . I think it’s sad she felt she had to do that . I get “each to their own” and all that . But as I say she was so beautiful before. I don’t get why she felt she had to do it. I feel it’s quite sad . I’m even wondering if it went wrong

Lip fillers always look DIRE! What was she thinking?

moderate · 03/04/2026 22:12

IMO a good friend is one who will tell you honestly how bad lip fillers look.

This thread is judgey borderline bitter.

So much hate for all those dumb undereducated dick loving low esteem big lip sluts!

I'm posting this from my aesthetic clinic, btw. I used my MA to help me write this 😘

I'm sure it's comforting to believe that ☺️

Look at you all! Women slagging off other women! It’s hilarious! All this whining about men and misogyny and it’s the women who bring each other down the most. The posts about women with filler/botox/enhancements from women without is some of the most bitchy posts I have seen on Mumsnet. Nasty, bitter and inadequate people you are.

Lip fillers would look just as shit on a man.

Not men slagging each other off though is it?

Only because men don’t use lip fillers. Otherwise it would be.

The other evening I had the misfortune of watching MAFS Australia with dd. A man on there has had lip fillers and it looked as awful as it does on women.

There you go, @ainsleysanob. Better now?

I love this. It’s not misogyny when you bitch about both sexes equally 😂😂😂😂

Pinkflamingo10 · 04/04/2026 17:14

Similar here. I’ve a pal who was a natural beauty and has really changed her looks with so much Botox and filler. Her face is now an expressionless mask. She’s now moved on to actual operations eg boob job. I worry for her but it’s her own business and her own money and body etc. etc

Not really! Because unless @Additupis a bloke it’s still a woman bitching, isn’t it?

This is Mumsnet, so most people commenting here are women. Your complaint was “it’s the women who bring each other down the most” — can you find a woman who thinks lip fillers look shit on women but not on men?

I am indeed a woman, but if it's any consolation my dh also commented on how ridiculous the mans plumped up lips looked.

I don’t think that will be any consolation for someone who is already confused between “lip fillers look shit” and “women look shit with lip fillers”.

I think you’d be unreasonable unless you’ve provided your friend with the rules on what she is and isn’t allowed to do to her own face/body along with “right reasons” for any procedure you’ve decided might be acceptable.

If she knows the rules and she’s disobeyed you anyway, then I’m guessing you’ll already have her punishment sorted.

Sounds like op’s friend has punished herself and paid for the privilege.

SpaceRaccoon · 04/04/2026 19:24

Fillers - lip and otherwise - look shit. And presenting them as some sort of feminist choice is wild.

Hallywally · 04/04/2026 19:30

If she asks you directly for your opinion, then fair enough, but otherwise, no it’s none of your business what she chooses to do to her own body/face.

When you carry out treatments on naturally beautiful clients do you ever try to dissuade them or refuse to do it.

I’m a dentist and I frequently get requests to carry out supposed cosmetic enhancement on patients which I ethically and morally refuse to do. I can’t stop them going elsewhere but if you can’t improve on the natural perfection of someone’s lips or cheeks do you really feel comfortable disfiguring them.

I see so many badly filled lips in my job. I chose not to do the treatments. I couldn’t live with myself if I ruined a perfectly beautiful face just because it’s a trend.

I too have a friend whose beautiful features are now frankly grotesque as a result of fillers. My DM had a condition called acromegaly, resulting in her features becoming thick and heavy as a result of the skin thickening. If I didn’t know that my friend had had fillers I would be urging her to see her GP to be checked out because her heavy features are so similar to my poor DMs features. My DM became a bit of a recluse because she was so self conscious of her thicker lips and features. 30 yrs ago she looked quite odd, today she would have looked like the thousands of women who have had fillers. As a result she may have felt more confident.

lavendarwillow · 04/04/2026 19:59

I do think it is sad to see someone effectively ruin their faces with procedures they absolutely do not need. Some beauticians are now jacks of all trades and whereas a client would have just gone for eyebrow shaping in the past for example, they are now being talked into lip fillers.

I don't own the clinic. I go there for treatments. No one ever tried to upsell me but I go to higher end places with medical doctors that don't do eyebrows and stuff like that.

Couple of weeks ago I got Botox, a diamond facial, and some under eye HA. the next day I got diagnosed with advanced cancer. I look awkwardly healthy. 👸
