Six year old trans girl ‘tries to cut off her penis’ after Guide ban

Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

Wouldn't this be more sensible than making six year old girls so distressed that they attempt to cut off their penis?

Guiding decided to stay a single sex organisation for very good reasons. Some UK girls are only able to attend because it's just girls. Some countries only allow girlguiding to exist because it's a single sex organisation. Making it mixed sex would have a massive impact on girls across the world.

Why can’t the trans girl join scouts? Brownies has been all girls for over 110 years, why should that change?

I think perhaps the parents should have been very clear with their little boy that he's a boy, right from the very start.

I feel for the child (if it's true). Choosing Scouts from the beginning would have helped avoid some of these issues. Also, they clearly didn't tell him in an appropriate way.

My daughter is in Rainbows specifically because it’s a girls-only space. Although she gets on well with boys at school, it’s obvious how they dominate in shared environments. I wanted her to have a space where that isn’t the case. I personally don't want them to go mixed sex like the Scouts.

How on earth at 6 does a child state they are born into the wrong body? I don’t know whether it is the strong gender stereotypes that have re-emerged over the last decade or a narcissistic desire to be special.

I think we should move towards a situation where people like you are made to resit Biology at school. Be made to spend a year working in rape crisis centres, another year coaching a girls gymnastics team and then a boys one to see the difference, and just generally not be allowed to be near children until you can see the damage people like you cause.

This sounds like a hundred other fictional "Trans" stories. I do not beleive it. If this story was true, I'd have huge sympathy for this child, for having such dysfunctional, self absorbed parents, who would inflict such misery their 6 year old son.

It’s a parenting issue. When you have a boy aged 6 why would you encourage them to believe they’re a girl?

Surely this is emotional and psychological abuse on a huge scale ?

Having seen a very young child being adamant they are the opposite sex I sympathise fully with this family. They have a terrible situation to deal with every single day and it doesn't help at all having judgemental ignoramuses suggesting they are bad parents. The majority of the world is already against them, why make it harder by levelling uneducated criticism at them when they are trying to do their best for their child?

The child I knew was stating they were the opposite sex from as soon as they were able to speak. They are now late teens and it's quite clear it wasn't a fad or a protest of some sort. They have had a terrible time through no fault of their own. Their parents and wider family have been extremely strong and faced the opposition, the backlash and immense pressure from every quarter with dignity and love for their child.

Six year old boys, surely? Girls don't have penises.

Nrtft but he's being totally unreasonable. He should wait until the Doctors say he's old enough to have his penis cut off.

Although, why get upset about him trying to do it himself at six though? It's what lies in the future for this child if his trans allies have their way. It's pointless being squeamish about it. Blockers, wrong sex hormones then surgery. Obviously the blockers will have left him with a micro-penis. There might not be enough... material to skin and invert to make a deep enough hole. This will entail using part of his intestine to make up the lack. If he's lucky he'll only require one or two revisions and won't mind being rendered sterile, anorgasmic or incontinent. Having to dilate every day to keep the hole open is only painful, I believe, for a little while. I hope his friends from Rainbows are still around. They may have got on with the business of growing up in healthy bodies, having relationships, families, the normal stuff.

But we need truly female only spaces to protect vulnerable women and girls op.

I think the difficulty here is that you've two essentially minority groups both of which have their own distinct vulnerabilities and both of whom need safe spaces and protection. But those needs are in contradiction because of the nature of those vulnerabilities. Its not an easy solution by any means but the solution cannot be removing women and girls access to female only safe spaces.

Little girls dont have a penis. How has society got so fucking crazy.

6 years old? Maybe the parents should have "been honest" a lot sooner and stamped out any delusions that supported him thinking he's a girl in the first place.

A six year old girl doesnt have a penis to cut off. A six year old child with a penis is a boy.

My opinion exactly on why children should not be labelled as 'trans'.

There’s no such thing as a 6yr old Trans child.

It’s another form of sexual abuse and those parents need prosecuting and the child needs to be taken into care and hopefully adopted by decent parents who will love and nurture him.

This is exactly how things were heading for most sensible parents of young kids up until about 10 years ago! Let toys be toys etc
