Six year old trans girl ‘tries to cut off her penis’ after Guide ban

Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

Should we move towards a situation like the Greens and Zack Polanski are advocating where trans women are legally recognised as women, and have access to all ‘female’ spaces?

Alternatively, all spaces could simply be made mixed gender.

This would blunt the impact of transphobia.

Why do you hate women?

Zoe Williams has argued that a sensible solution to all of this would be to make the Brownies mixed gender like the Scouts.

Wouldn't this be more sensible than making six year old girls so distressed that they attempt to cut off their penis?

For heaven's sake. Its not the job of 6 year old girls to put up with losing the single sex spaces they benefit from to help out boys who's parents have completely fucked them up psychologically. Where does it end? What if it was a 15 year old boy taking plastic scissors to his penis (sure, funny how they're always just caught in the nick of time!) because he wasn't being let box 15 year old girls?

Lol, what would it do for women's rights to safety, dignity and privacy?

The article is clear that this girl’s friends are all now boycotting Rainbows due to how she has been treated.

Well, that is good, they could all join Scouts together. Problem solved.

Yep, same as any other child whose parents exhibit Munchausens by Proxy. Six years old FFS.

Exactly this ☝️ those parents are sick, egotistical attention seekers and the poor child should be removed.

JonesTown · 29/03/2026 11:36

The girl clearly wants to identify as female, and I think it’s only right that we respect her wishes in how we refer to her.

BS

Poor wee soul. Failed by his parents.

Lomonald · 29/03/2026 11:55

I see it was Rainbows and not Brownies point still stands WTAF !

Clefable · 29/03/2026 11:55

Anyone who doesn’t understand the value of single-sex spaces for young girls has never experienced the drastic change in dynamic across all age groups, from Rainbows to Rangers, between single-sex female groups and mixed sex groups. Girls as young as 8/9 are talking about boys, the male gaze, body image; girls as young as 4/5 are coming to the group with ideas of what girls can’t do. It completely changes the whole environment of the space if you include boys. Not necessarily a bad thing, but there is absolutely a place for single sex groups for girls.

Great thread. Showcasing how hyperbolic transactivism comes up against the reality of responsible, child centred parenting from Mumsnetters, so many of who are actual parents.

For anyone interested in what these dangerous parents are doing to their 6 year old, this is written by a clinical psychologist who details the harms adults do by lying to young children about what sex they really are:

Six year old girls don’t have a penis.

Six year old boys do.

Telling 6 years old they’re trapped in the wrong body , and forcing everyone to participate in the delusion, is what causes this kind of distress when reality kicks in.

Accepting that boy of who he is and what he is , in reality and biologically , would’ve prevented this. Enrol him in Scouts. Let him explore his interests and wear what he wants and what not , because being the “wrong type “ of boy , doesn’t mean he is a girl. The parents created this absolute mindfuck.

I guess I do. I have told them a complete strange man breaks into their house and leaves presents at Christmas.

Everyone lies to children. We don’t always tell them the truth. We will tell them a version of the truth. Every parent varies on how much they lie to their kids. Some parents refuse to do Santa. Some won’t talk about how babies are made and make up something else.

I don’t think this argue stands

OK, we don't all tell the truth all the time. This is undeniable. However, telling children stories about the Tooth Fairy and Father Christmas is a very different thing from lying to them about something as fundamental as changing sex. At an age when many children still believe in magic, if you say to a young child that doctors will help you when you're older to look like how you feel in your head, they will believe you. They will have no conception of what the medical treatment will involve or what effect the very common side effects would have on their lives. How can a six-year-old make an informed decision to start on a path that may mean losing fertility and never having an orgasm? How do you even start to explain any of that? It's not age appropriate to even talk about it, and that's a mighty big clue that getting informed consent for this badly-evidenced medical intervention is impossible.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 29/03/2026 11:57

Such ridiculously transparent lies.

It wouldn’t fool a cat.

Dollymylove · 29/03/2026 11:57

This indoctrination of young children needs to stop.
No is a complete sentence. You are not a girl
You can play with dolls if you wish. Wear girls clothes at home. But you are a boy.
When you are 18 and old enough to make your own decisions. You can transition. If you havent grown out of wanting to be a girl

You're too late, the FWS Supreme Court judgement already happened. As for making all spaces "mixed gender", i.e. allowing men absolutely everywhere, aye right.

You're just being deliberately provocative, I'm out.

Absolutely not. I’m not sharing a changing room or restroom with a biological man and nor are my girls.

Shitstix · 29/03/2026 11:58

itgetsthehoseagain · 29/03/2026 11:44

If this happened at all, it is the result of parents validating an untruth and their poor DC being led to believe that he can change sex. Allowing children to believe that they were born in the wrong body is unspeakably cruel.

This.

Good morning OP, please take some time to look at this very old but extremely informative thread. It will explain these things to you so that you gain a proper understanding of why your suggestion is not okay:

No, a more sensible thing to do would be not to fuck with your little boy’s head and let him think he’s a girl.

interestingly, I’ve read this exact same story before - but about another little boy. I suggest it’s a common little story amongst disturbed parents. There’s no proof that’s what the child was doing at all.

Also in mild hysterics that ‘girl cutting off her penis’ is even a legitimate sentence at this point. There’s a clue in there somewhere.

This. I think the OP and their gender word salad is part of the reason we have a six year old boy trying to cut off his penis with plastic scissors. Because adults and their weird agendas lie a lot.

Nope. Believing in biological reality and refusing to pander to a misogynistic homophobic ideology isn’t transphobia

And the day we all agree with Dave the hypnotherapist is the day to give up

Arrowthroughtheknee · 29/03/2026 11:59

This is all really odd to me and seems performative on the part of all the parents fighting for their kids to join the Guide association. The Scout association is mixed sex so why wouldn't you just send them there?

If it would be acceptable to make all spaces mixed gender, then this child (and friend group) would go to a mixed-gender group. If a mixed gender group is acceptable, then why not just...go to a mixed gender group?

Why the need to make sure no girl can have a single sex group?

Ever since activists made it clear that biological reality and anything that women and society do to keep men out of spaces that are required for our safety, privacy and dignity are transphobic, I think you'll find that a lot of people have lost any appetite they once had to oppose so-called "transphobia".
