Six year old trans girl ‘tries to cut off her penis’ after Guide ban

Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

Perhaps the majority of people are not prepared to participate in his delusion?

Poor lad. It's not his fault the adults in his life have put him in this position.

His parents should never have let him think he could actually be a girl. It's not Girlguiding they should be angry with but themselves for their decision, as supposedly responsible adults, to lie to their child and trans him.

And he isn't banned because he's trans, girls who think they are boys can join. He's banned because he's not a girl.

But of course they'll blame the world and their dog before reflecting on their part in his distress.

Absolutely, what would the solution be if all the little girls at rainbows said “if males keep coming here I’m going to harm myself” ?

This is his parents fault for letting a 6 year old think that he can change his sex.

Those spaces will get filled easily with other girls, there is always a waiting list for Rainbows and Brownies

Wouldn't this be more sensible than making six year old girls so distressed that they attempt to cut off their penis?

We’re talking about a distressed 6 year old boy here. And yes, the parents have navigated what seem to be fairly serious issues, whether theirs or his, appallingly badly. That’s why he’s distressed.

People must stop lying to young children that they can be the opposite sex. It’s child cruelty.

I think its absolutely wrong to encourage delusional beliefs in children and lie to them.
You cant hide from reality forever and male children need to learn to respect female people's boundaries and need for spaces away from males.

Let's consider what happens to a child who is born as one sex but who is led to believe that they can magically be accepted as the other sex just by saying they are. If their parents and school facilitate it, the child adopts the stereotypical clothing and hairstyles of the opposite sex and changes name. The child may pass as the opposite sex at this point, if the family are able to prevent any other child seeing the child in a state of undress, but what happens when puberty hits? The child's body doesn't know the child is now identifying as the other sex. Puberty will change the body to the characteristic adult form for the child's biological sex. If female, menstruation will start, breasts will develop,hips will widen. If male, the voice will break and facial hair will appear. And so on. No hiding the natal sex at that point.

Far, far better to get the help the child and the whole family needs at the first sign of gender distress. Get them all to realise that a fondness for pink and sparkly clothing is just a fondness for pink and sparkly clothing, not a sign that a child has somehow been born with a girl brain but a boy's body. What would that even mean? The brain is a key part of the body. We can have all sorts of personalities but there are only two sexes, fixed at conception, and they can't change.

I'm not sure I'd like to be writing the scout risk assessment for a night where they use whittling knives, craft with scissors or use an axe for a child with a history of trying to hack of their penis TBF...

Why on EARTH should The Brownies become mixed sex when the Scouts is mixed sex? Why can this child not just go the The Scouts? Are you going to answer this question? And can you also answer the question 'how can a girl cut off her penis? When a girl doesn't have a penis..!'

Crikey. How on earth does a 6 year old get to be so mentally unwell? There is no way he understands the whole gender woo thing, so this is a parental failure.

Everyone lies to children. We don’t always tell them the truth. We will tell them a version of the truth. Every parent varies on how much they lie to their kids. Some parents refuse to do Santa. Some won’t talk about how babies are made and make up something else.

Let me correct you there. 6 year old GIRLS dont have a penis to cut off.
If parents didnt keep deluding the 6 year old boy that he was a girl, he wouldnt be in this position.

The child is 6. He should have absolutely no concept of gender identity ideology.

My DS has a female friend who when they were little wanted all her hair cut off as it got in her way when playing. All her good friends were boys and she was one of the few little girls in primary school who chose to wear trousers and shorts as opposed to school skirts and summer dresses. She joined scouts with all her male friends. She has a name that could be for either gender, think Sam (not real name) and to a passerby could probably have been mistaken for a boy when she was 6.

But she was a girl, her friends knew she was a girl, she knew she was a girl, her parents never pretended she wasn’t a girl.

She is now a teenager with beautiful long blonde hair, shopping in Sephora most weekends, and wearing miniskirts when she goes to parties.

Just let children be children for fucks sake.

If this happened at all, it is the result of parents validating an untruth and their poor DC being led to believe that he can change sex. Allowing children to believe that they were born in the wrong body is unspeakably cruel.
