Six year old trans girl ‘tries to cut off her penis’ after Guide ban

Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

Perhaps this kind of tale is meant to make us think ‘Oh no! We are being really unfair and cruel to ‘trans children’ and should reverse this awful discrimination against them forthwith’ ???

It doesn’t.

It makes me ask what kind of fucked up society do we live in where a SIX YEAR OLD is made to feel they are ‘born in the wrong body’, the adults around them actively reinforce this gender dysphoria and indulge the idea that their little boy is a girl …and then have the actual fucking audacity to act as if their child wanting to cut off his penis is somehow anyone’s fault but their own?!

Poor, poor child. He should never have been put in this position by the adults around him.

Edited

An excellent post.

For too long we've collectively failed to safeguard children from all this. IF this is true (a big IF) then those parents and the other trusted adults involved, need to be held accountable for failing to protect this little boy.

Ducktop · 29/03/2026 12:12

There have been many similar reported stories, for years. All of them end with the parent discovering child+scissors at just the crucial moment that enables them to discern imminent intentional castration and swiftly thwart it. Nobody actually gets injured and it is a one off event requiring no intervention other than everyone in the world affirming trans ideology.

Possibly an approximation of this scenario did play out with one child, once upon a time. But all the other accounts since? No. It's a powerful narrative and that's why it keeps being reused.

Zoe Williams has argued that a sensible solution to all of this would be to make the Brownies mixed gender like the Scouts.

Wouldn't this be more sensible than making six year old girls so distressed that they attempt to cut off their penis?

Regarding the ZW article, it is sheer idiocy to suggest that whatever deep-seated psychological issues (including brainwashing) may have led a six-year-old boy to consider cutting off his penis (let's just assume for the moment that this is true) could be resolved simply by allowing him to attend a girls' youth group. Or indeed by allowing him to wear a skirt to school, or use the girls' toilets, or change his name, etc., etc.

Even if the entire world bends around a trans person's need for affirmation and "inclusion", and they go through the full medical and surgical process including bottom surgery, they are still not the opposite sex to the one they started as.

JumpingPumpkin · 29/03/2026 12:12

Following on from the audacity to blame anyone else. I was shocked at the audacity of an article written entirely about a boy using the words "daughter" instead of "son" and "she" instead of "he" saying the parents were honest with their child about the reason he couldn't attend a girls' club. Honesty didn't get within a mile of the parents or the article.

I read that article too. I was a bit surprised that Zoe Williams didn’t point out that Scouts has been mixed for some years. It seemed rather perverse that Girl Guides should change their entire ethos and name to benefit a limited number of trans children when well established mixed sex group already existed.

Balloonhearts · 29/03/2026 12:13

This is on the parents. A six year old should have no idea what trans even is. He shouldn't be aware of the difference between boys, girls or a fucking alien. This is a classic case of parents pushing their fucked up agendas onto children. Child should be taken into care and raised by someone with a modicum of common sense.

One is in their early teens and, having already been bullied out of school ("Urgh! You're trans!"), is now having to leave Guides, which had become a bit of a haven for them
is it a ‘haven’ for him because of the #nodebate and total capitulation that’s demanded of the females that attend to his delusion?

ProfessorSlocombe · 29/03/2026 12:15

"Hard cases make bad law."

Maybe worth reintroducing that phrase into the public consciousness ?

hahabahbag · 29/03/2026 12:15

To those questioning how a 6 year old is aware of such stuff - it does happen. My nephew in law knew he was trans without knowing what it was, had no name for it and it was before smartphones, tablets and social media - he told his mum aged 3 he was a boy, wanted to wear boys clothes, hated dresses and female school uniform and most of all his name, very feminine name. This is 10+ years before any of the current trend started. He went by a different name by early teens and wore boys school uniform, camhs counselling from 16 then properly transitioned at 18. Happily through all surgeries and in long term relationship. I think being truly trans at a young age is rare but having seen it with my own eyes I know it was not encouraged at all yet still…

DoingANewThing · 29/03/2026 12:15

I honestly believe there will (and should!) be a huge scandal and Inquiry in years to come about the complete disregard of safeguarding and the blatant state/NHS/organisation-sanctioned physical, mental and emotional abuse of children society has stood by and allowed in their ideological trance.

A very young child wants to cut off his penis because he had been wrongly told by the grown ups he is a girl. I mean…for fuck sake, wake up people!

I hope Zoe Williams is about to write useless, poorly researched articles about this when the shit hits the fan. 🔥

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 29/03/2026 12:10

I don’t believe this story for a second.

It’s all very convenient timing for Zoe’s article.
Hmm…some might say it’s complete bullshit.

Are you implying that the Observer is lying, or deliberately disseminating false information?

I guess you could make a complaint to IPSO in that case, although it's worth noting that as far as I know the Guardian/ Observer has never had a complaint upheld against it unlike the Mail for example

murasaki · 29/03/2026 11:26

Of all the things that never happened, this didn't happen the most.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but if we can suspend our disbelief for a moment and pretend it might have happened, it's entirely the fault of his parents and every adult who went along with the ridiculous fantasy that he can be a girl.

They should have made it clear to him that a girl is not just a boy without a penis. Even without it he would still be a boy and therefore ineligible to join the Rainbows.

If they're honest with him that absolutely no surgery, medication or magic wand will turn him into a girl, he might, with the love and kindness of decent parents, accept himself as the little boy he really is.

Electricsausages · 29/03/2026 12:16

What the hell have the parents indoctrinated him with
he needs removing from their ‘care’

Wow -
this child’s life is a safeguarding issue
and should be addressed within that context

guiding is a single sex space
if a child wishes to be in a mixed sex space there is scouting, sea cadets etc etc

placing a young boy in a female sex space is clearly going to lead to a disturbed sense of self -

appalling situation
I point the finger at the parents, social media, stonewall and the trans ideology that has hijacked childhood and all the complexities of self discovery - complexities that don’t include being born into the wrong body, but include dysphoria, self esteem, neurodivergence’s etc etc

this case is a safeguarding issue

GCAcademic · 29/03/2026 12:16

Yes, I know a couple of children like this, and I wouldn't want to be in their parents' shoes given the hostile attitudes expressed upthread.

One is in their early teens and, having already been bullied out of school ("Urgh! You're trans!"), is now having to leave Guides, which had become a bit of a haven for them. They are very scared that they might get bullied again if they went to Scouts (they used to go to Cubs but found it a bit rough), although I have tried to reassure their mum that it's a very inclusive troop.

The answer to this is to educate boys and men to be inclusive, not to insist that society gives up every single sex space that it has up (for good reason) and deny women the ability to have safety, dignity and privacy in sport, health care and vulnerable situations.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 29/03/2026 12:16

I’m not implying anything. I’m flat out calling them god damn liars.

I agree a child of this age shouldn't know about trams issues, but I think you're stretching a point to say they shouldn't know the difference between boys and girls at an age-appropriate level.

This is a little boy with a deep-seated delusion encouraged by irresponsible parents.

This. The child is 6. Why not just send them to badgers/cubs which is mixed in the first place.

The article is clear that this girl’s friends are all now boycotting Rainbows due to how she has been treated.

No, the boycott has been decided by those girls' parents.

"Wouldn't this be more sensible than making six year old girls so distressed that they attempt to cut off their penis?"

This is like Ricky Gervais's comedy routine.

Little girls dont have a penis. How has society got so fucking crazy.

Yeah Ricky Gervais came to my mind too

One of his punchlines was literally “HER penis!”

says a lot when I joke punchline becomes reality

Kendrickspenguin · 29/03/2026 12:18

Why can't Emily just join Beavers? They take boys and girls from the age of 6.

The article is simply using the pronouns and identity that the girl and her parents wish to identify with.
