Dog wee (sorry!!)

Am I the only person who thinks that dogs weeing everywhere is really horrid. I know people pick up poo after their pets, but dog wee up lamp posts, gateposts, walls, hedges, fences, trees, even just on the grass seems really nasty too, especially if you have children who like to run and roll on the grass, or to poke about in tree roots etc. And there are so many dogs everywhere these days!

I think that in Spain dog owners have to carry a water bottle with you to wash or dilute the dog wee. Does anyone know if that is true?

OP- complete agree! Owners think it’s fine to let them pee up our wall. Tried spray, disinfectant etc but nothing deters them. It’s unsightly, smells, and discolours and damages the surface. It could easily be avoided by pulling the dog away, walking it on the other side of the owners, but the owners won’t do that, they are lazy and it’s not their wall.

Wolfiefan · 28/03/2026 21:16

I have girl dogs. They don’t cock their legs over anything. And we don’t walk in children’s play areas.

HoskinsChoice · 28/03/2026 21:21

Every tiny molecule of this globe is covered in shit and piss. Dogs, because of their size, are the ones that get noticed but the reality is that from foxes to microscopic insects, they are all shitting and pissing everywhere. So you could somehow ban dogs but when your kid is rolling on grass or poking in tree roots s/he is still coating themselves in vile stuff. In the grand scheme of things, a bit of dog wee is the least of your problems.

PottingBench · 28/03/2026 21:28

Birds could wear nappies too. Especially pigeons. They make a helluva mess.
What about cattle in the countryside or ducks in the park? Cats!!!!!!!

Then there's the grimness left by humans.... chewing gum, drunks wee, fag ends, vape rubbish, broken glass, drunks sick, runners spit and nose blowings, discarded kebab chillis, squashed insects, needles, the crafty shit the UberEats guy has in the bushes in the park.........argggghhhhhh.........we'd never go out.

cobrakaieaglefang · 28/03/2026 21:29

In the UK rain will wash it away. Female dogs tend to piss downwards not up things as they squat.

I find it more gross when fully grown adults feel the need ( mainly men!)to piss everywhere. Just use toilets you skanky gits, public, pubs, garages, shops..not a lay by, not the town centre, not walls outside shops.

PottingBench · 28/03/2026 21:33

I once saw a grown man drop his pants, squat down and have a big shit in the street in San Antonio, Ibiza. It was broad daylight and the dirty bastard didn't even sluice it down with the bottle of San Miguel he was holding.

NormasArse · 28/03/2026 21:34

Your piss is in the sea I swim in.

I don’t live in a park or field, and finding trails of smelly dog piss every day against the wall, and often outside my gate, is disgusting, and unlike wee produced by farm and wild animals in the countryside, it is where I live and walk, so not really a comparison. Cats and birds have never left puddles and streams of wee along my wall, but there are many large dogs around here, often three with one owner/ dog Walker, who aren’t bothered about poo either, even though there is a dog bin nearby.

.....and tampons, shit, condoms, cotton buds, floss harps and all the other stuff people flush down the lav.

I do a weekly beach litter pick in my town. The stuff we find....dirty nappies, broken glass, all the crap fishermen leave behind, bottles of piss, takeaway packaging, empty cans, shat pants............

Not when they keep weeing in the same place- it stains the area. Haven’t you ever seen the area around the base of a street light or telegraph pole? It’s green! If they pee on metal it’s corroded.

Mumofyellows · 28/03/2026 21:39

What? 🤣 wild animals and birds wee and poo anywhere they want, cats too. Human beings are far more disgusting than humans, leaving their rubbish, spit and God knows what else all over the place. Just another thread of dog negativity.

SocialSkills00 · 28/03/2026 21:39

I know what you mean op.
We have a local “cafe” which is kind of a hut / kiosk serving take coffee / snacks.

Literally saw a dog owner let the dog cock its leg and piss against the cafe literally just below the serving hatch. Grim.

Couldn't agree with you more that sounds grim. Can't stand people who don't pick up poo. It's part of the job of being a dog owner.

You might feel negative if your wall is continually pissed on by often very large dogs! Children walk through it, prams and pushchairs go through it. Spend time trying to make the area look nice and some ignoramus thinks it’s ok to stand and watch as his beloved dog pisses and worse right on or near the wall. It’s disgusting!

You think cats and birds don't wee? Or hedgehogs, foxes, rats, flies, spiders, worms? They do. You might not witness it. But its there.

(Agree on the dog poo though - there is never ever an excuse).

LivingTheDreamish · 28/03/2026 21:48

I always think this too - it just seems so rude. I blame lazy dog owners who don't want to take their dogs for a proper off leash walk and feel entitled to let them piss and shit all over everyone else's property. I get that if you live in a city/apartment without a garden your dog still needs to have a late night wee, but surely you find a side street and train them to go in the gutter? Sluicing with water would also be a welcome addition.

Of course they do, it’s minuscule amounts and not obvious, but it’s not cats and birds that constantly leave noticeable streams of pee on the wall and puddles on the pavement morning to night.

chattyness · 28/03/2026 21:55

The lamp post outside our house got so corroded with dog pee that it rusted though & fell right over one day with the strong winds and had to be replaced, it doesn't smell of dog wee there though even though all the neighbourhood dogs pee on it

But aren't dog owners also criticised for letting their dogs off leash?

MeridaBrave · 28/03/2026 21:59

What do you propose is done about the fox wee or the bird poo? In my local park the litter is more
unsightly than the dog wee.

HoskinsChoice · 28/03/2026 22:01

It's not miniscule amounts though. Foxes and cats will wee as much as a dog. And whilst tiny microscopic insects might do tiny microscopic wees, there are millions of them! Your wall is literally covered in piss no matter how you look at it.

LivingTheDreamish · 28/03/2026 22:01

Youknowitactuallymakessense · 28/03/2026 21:56

In areas where off leash dogs are permitted I would just ignore anyone who complained. All dogs need at least one daily off leash walk for health and wellbeing and noone should own a dog who is not willing to provide this.

Hereforthecommentz · 28/03/2026 22:03

Your right they do in Spain because it's hot and doesn't rain so much, so will start to smell. In England it rains every 5 minutes so the rain washes the piss away.

🤣🤣🤣

Do you expect cat owners to do the same? Cats roam. They piss and shit, not outside your garden, but actually in it. Should cat owners be training their cats to wee down a drain too?

And what do you mean by a 'side street'? Do you mean outside someone's house as long as it's not your house?
