Dog wee (sorry!!)

Am I the only person who thinks that dogs weeing everywhere is really horrid. I know people pick up poo after their pets, but dog wee up lamp posts, gateposts, walls, hedges, fences, trees, even just on the grass seems really nasty too, especially if you have children who like to run and roll on the grass, or to poke about in tree roots etc. And there are so many dogs everywhere these days!

I think that in Spain dog owners have to carry a water bottle with you to wash or dilute the dog wee. Does anyone know if that is true?

Again, never seen a fox pee or poop. They run away from open public spaces. You're making excuses and reaching.

Foxes are crepuscular so unless you're cruising the park at dawn or dusk you're unlikely to have seen them pooing. They are secretive creatures who avoid people and dogs and so are unlikely to take a poo in the centre of a park in broad daylight for all to see. That doesn't mean they're not there being foxes when we aren't.

Like you've genuinely never seen fox poo?

Its everywhere here. It looks like dog poo but has a completely different smell.
I had 3 in my front garden over the last month!

I haven't. Not even seen that many foxes, and certainly not roaming shoots kids play.
But let's just grant it you - they're considered pests. Folks shoo them away. So even if I grant this, it still doesn't help the dog poo in public places argument.

And stop getting their dicks out to pee in my park, they're shameless. Lazy dirty ar*eholes

No human, as far as I know, has peed up my wall, but plenty of dog owners are happy to allow their dogs to. They think it’s perfectly normal.

I live in an end-terraced house with a fairly large garden. Most of my problems have come from dog-walkers - stick fences* knocked down as walkers have gone after stray dogs, dog excrement in the back garden, the driveway, along the edge of the hedge...(I'm assuming worms or the like...)

However, I've also had a used nappy dumped in my garden (along with all the dog excrement bags). Some people are just revolting.

So far as the dogs are concerned, I blame the owners. I now use chilli powder as top dressing for the plants adjacent to my driveway. It's the only thing that seems to deter dogs and cats.

Yes, roaming cats are a bit of a problem when it comes to newly dug flower beds, but it's only dogs that are defecating on the pavements, presumably at when it's darker and no one is around to catch the owners.

[ETA Dog urine killed off the leaves on my lonicera nitida hedge adjacent to the pavement until I sprinkled the bare area with chilli powder.]

*Council 'gardeners' butchered the council side of a hawthorn hedge. I've since added a spiky fence [from bits and pieces in the garage during lockdown] and have encouraged the hawthorn to weave itself in and out of said fence.

Surely the chilli powder stains the area? What we need is a chilli infused colourless spray!
I pity my neighbour opposite. She’s in an end of terrace house and her wall has been stained, crumbling from being constantly used as a dog’s urinal. So unpleasant. Can’t understand why it is tolerated by some on here, whom no doubt would hate it on their walls! To those who gaily let your dogs foul property, Pull your dog away from the wall, put dog on the street side, or walk away from the houses , if there is a path . Don’t say you can’t stop your dog doing this. It You are just lazy and inconsiderate, not to mention dirty!

Honestly, it doesn't - mind you, it's only going on earth and on plants. It gradually disappears, courtesy of the rain and then I top it up again. It's the only thing that's worked for me.

Actually, I've also trickled some along the edge of my driveway - gravel and paving stones - and it's not stained that either.

(I think that turmeric might stain, but I'm using pure chilli powder ordered in a catering size from Amazon.)

ETA And yes, the owners can stop it: if they see me in the garden, then they pull their animals away from my hedge and driveway.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/04/2026 15:23

By the way, I recall that when I was a child in the '60s, 'good' owners were expected to train their dogs to use the gutter (in the days before dog waste bags). Of course, there were still problems with dog mess on the pavements. In those days, there were owners who allowed their dogs to roam at will, believe it or not. (That was Fife, Scotland.)

I’ve got a pale wall, though! There must be something else, colourless but potent, and of course Harlestone to the dogs. Just want to deter them. Citrus stuff is useless. In my imagination I’d like to soak the dog owners with a giant water pistol filled with ice cold water!

Ah. It might be problem on a pale wall...Might be worth trying just a tiny area?

I agree that citrus doesn't work. I think I tried just about every type of citrus Zoflora. I still use it a dog defecates on the pavement in front of my garden.

AffableApple · 11/04/2026 15:42

It doesn't wash off the pavement either. It stains and gets stinky in summer. The other day, I had to pour disinfectant all over two massive streams of piss at the end of my garden path, because that's the only way to get the pushchair out of my house and into the car. I can't let my toddlers walk on our front garden ever, because dogs piss there all the time. I'm constantly pouring stuff on so more dogs don't competitively piss in the same spot, making things worse. I bang on the window or open the front door to tell selfish dog owners to stop letting them wee on my garden. Some owners are sheepish, some apologise, some (usually the men) get aggressive.

Just like where I live!

SnobblyBobbly · 11/04/2026 17:24

Seriously? You monitor how many dogs piss up your front wall or nearest lamp posts?

Get. A. Life! 🤣

DanBull · 11/04/2026 10:17

If taking responsibility means taking them to a designated kids play area, park, and directing them to sh#t there, then yes, that is correct.
This does nit null and void the argument in any way. The arrogance if stating such makes me think you own multiple animal, resource burning poop slaves, I mean dogs.

I don't have a dog, have never had a dog - I think you maybe didn't mean to aim your message at me?

I wonder if dog owners are surprised by the outcome of the AIBU? It is roughly 50/50. I wonder if they will think about it the next time their dog pisses up a wall, or on the grass where a child might roll (and we all know children don't stick to play areas to faff about in)?
