Would you be tired after a one hour walk?

Took my Ddog on a walk around a fairly large lake yesterday morning , it took around an hour
By the afternoon I was tired and yawning lots-4 pm ish. Last night I fell asleep around 9.30
I mean, I could be coming down with something but I don’t think so.

Is this normal? Late 40’s, part time job, one Primary aged child

Maybe you are coming down with something. If is is usually you who walk the dog doing it for a while longer should not be causing an issue.

moggerhanger · 28/03/2026 09:14

Sometimes yes, sometimes no! Very dependent on what I've been doing, how much sleep I've had etc. I wouldn't overthink it, unless you're noticing abnormal fatigue after doing things you'd usually manage fine.

NuffSaidSam · 28/03/2026 09:15

Not just a one hour walk, but it depends what else I'd done that day/hoe much sleep I'd had etc.

Presumably you didn't just walk the dog? You must have done other stuff too?

Seawolves · 28/03/2026 09:17

Do you regularly do that kind of walk at the pace you walked at? If so and this is the first time you have felt that way then maybe your body is just fighting a low grade virus.

I walk regularly and a one hour walk wouldn't usually leave me feeling like that.

powershowerforanhour · 28/03/2026 09:19

Yes. I'm very unfit though.

herbalteabag · 28/03/2026 09:20

The walk wouldn't make me tired but I might be tired because of how busy the day or week in general was.

UnbeatenMum · 28/03/2026 09:20

Maybe if it was up a hill or quite fast. But probably not a sedate one. Mid 40s, I take at least a 30 minute walk most days.

Girlintheframe · 28/03/2026 09:21

No not after an hours walk. We do 1.5 hours a day and it has no affect on me . I’m 53 btw. In saying that, I’m used to walking and so around 13k steps a day. A hike up the hills would make me tired but that’s usually a whole day of walking.

MasterBeth · 28/03/2026 09:22

No, a one hour walk wouldn't register with me as being of any significance.

Clefable · 28/03/2026 09:23

No but that would be a pretty normal daily amount of walking for me, plus I’m a runner. I usually do 15-20k steps a day at least.

But if you’re not used to that amount of exercise then it’s understandable you’ll be more tired from it.

FreedomFreak · 28/03/2026 09:23

Depends on fitness levels really. For me no, that’s not a long walk at all, that would refresh me. I can comfortably run for longer than that. Early 50s.

BertieBotts · 28/03/2026 09:24

Most people get tired in the afternoons anyway as it's a natural lull in energy with our circadian rhythm. If you're generally feeling your energy level is lower than usual though, ask your GP for blood tests.

midgetastic · 28/03/2026 09:25

I would guess I had a bug if I felt tired after that - an hours run however

Ohthatsabitshit · 28/03/2026 09:26

Yes. But I love that feeling of tired after exercise, so I’d be fine with it.

LadyMacbethWasFierce · 28/03/2026 09:28

I would now as I have barely done any physical activity in 5 months and am eating very little (profound grief)), but as I say there is a reason for it. I am 59 and previously I either walked very fast or swam for an hour each day and it left me energized not tired. I’d say you are coming down with something. But if it continues see your doctor for and get your iron levels checked if you can.

MonaChopsis · 28/03/2026 09:28

I am 52, quite fit (run half marathons etc) and quite often have a mid-afternoon snooze 🤷🏻 I think a 20 minute power nap is a wonderful thing at any age.

Chipsahoy · 28/03/2026 09:29

I walk a lot and occasionally one I’ve done many times before will just kick my ass. I always put it down to hormones or fighting something.

JLou08 · 28/03/2026 09:31

An hours walk would usually energise me rather than make me tired, unless it was around the time of menstruation. I get tired really easily around that time, I'm not sure if that's normal or due to endometriosis.

Meadowfinch · 28/03/2026 09:31

No I wouldn't but I'm fairly fit and on the go all day.

Perhaps do the same walk a few times in the next month and see if it improves.

LottieMary · 28/03/2026 09:31

Not really but if it’s cold and I’ve misjudged clothing that makes a big difference to me

Purplecatshopaholic · 28/03/2026 09:32

On the flat, no. Up a hill, hell yes!

ViciousCurrentBun · 28/03/2026 09:32

I’m almost 60 and have a heart condition but I would be fine. I went for a 2 hour walk yesterday. I often walk for 45 minutes to an hour a day, health permitting. I did get most of the way up Yr Wydffa (Snowdon) last year the second hardest path and could hike up to 20 miles a day till I was mid forties. But inherited heart issues means I’m down to about 10 to 12 on a good day.

I think it’s what your used to really.

Morepositivemum · 28/03/2026 09:34

Are you just guessing it’s because of the walk though? Is it stress or lack of sleep?

DustyOmelette · 28/03/2026 09:34

No, but then I run regularly so am used to exercise.

However, it also depends on other things too, I notice if I am mentally stressed I feel tired much quicker - that kind of horrible wired but unable to rest feeling.

But in normal circumstances no
