Took my Ddog on a walk around a fairly large lake yesterday morning , it took around an hour
By the afternoon I was tired and yawning lots-4 pm ish. Last night I fell asleep around 9.30
I mean, I could be coming down with something but I don’t think so.

Is this normal? Late 40’s, part time job, one Primary aged child

Me personally - 62 - full time job, no I wouldn't be tired if it was all on the flat, and my gammy ankle wasn't playing up. So you might be coming down with something

MySnoringDog · 29/03/2026 18:21

I walk my dog for up to 2 hours a day
Never feel very tired after even if I've had a full on day
I'm a very plumpcious and vertically challenged 60 year old
Sounds like you're coming down with something

Flamingojune · 29/03/2026 18:32

I think op too tired to come back

Sheknowsaboutme · 29/03/2026 18:45

An hours walk is 3-3.5 miles. I would not be tired. I walk in the evenings for that amount of time most nights.

absolutely not tiring unless you have serious health issues or hugely overweight

brunettemic · 29/03/2026 18:56

Nope but then I do a lot of running. If I’m marathon training I’ll do a long run and then walk the dog.

Squidlette · 29/03/2026 18:57

I do an hour gym on Saturdays, then a walk later if I can get someone to come with me.

Yesterday I napped in the afternoon, then fell asleep on the sofa at 830.i went to bed at 9. On a Saturday. I'm 46 and usually full of beans, but I was totally wiped.

Did a long run this morning, so think it was a one off. Sometimes it all just catches up.

SeriousTissues · 29/03/2026 19:02

Mid 50s, T2D and lots of msk issues here. No, an hour’s walk wouldn’t tire me out, but it is something I regularly do. I walk a lot generally - to work, shopping etc. And am at the gym three hours a week at least. Am shattered currently but will still be walking the mile to work in the morning.

hennipenni · 29/03/2026 19:38

Before I had leukaemia it wouldn’t have bothered me at all and often walked 15.000 - 20,000 steps, since treatment and a bone marrow transplant I struggle with walking n hour

Mackerelfillets · 29/03/2026 20:26

If it isnt a one off see the GP to check ferritin, Vit D and B12.

namechangeabc123 · 29/03/2026 20:59

I’d be tired, but I do have health issues.

Rpop · 29/03/2026 21:07

The walk wouldn’t per se. But I’m mid-40’s with two primary aged children and I feel very tired in the afternoon and need to sit down for a bit to re-energise. I always feel like falling asleep at 9:30-10:00.

SoSadSoSadSoSad · 29/03/2026 21:09

perhaps you just need to do those hour long walks more often? Maybe you are just generally tired. It’s ok.

I go for a 6km walk every Sunday. I am shattered afterwards. My friend who comes on the walk is also tired out. As are my dogs. Usually we do 4kms every day which doesn’t leave me exhausted.

I go to the gym regularly too. So perhaps because it’s the end of the week?

Squidlette · 29/03/2026 21:28

Are you a teacher, op? I have teacher friends who are like zombies when their bodies realise it's the end of term. Especially if it's exam build up.

Iloveeverycat · 29/03/2026 21:33

I am 60 work in retail and on my feet continuously for 7.5 hours apart for a 20 min break. Sometimes walking around the whole shift. I don't get tired.

evilharpy · 29/03/2026 21:34

Where are you in your cycle? I'm 45 and if it was the first day of my period I might not even manage an hour long walk. The day before, I'd do it but would be exhausted. Any other day it wouldn't tire me unless it was up a mountain, I'm fairly fit.

Blossomtop · 29/03/2026 22:02

I’d wait a few days - if you don’t come down with something and you’re still tired go to the gp and ask for a blood test due to tiredness that’s unusual for you, could be any number of things!

ThatLilacTiger · 29/03/2026 22:18

It depends on the type of activity for me. I walk a lot so a dog walk in the morning would energise me for the day. But in the past when I'd go to the gym in the morning I'd always be falling asleep by 4pm.

Greetings original commenter
Like others mentioned, I feel it truly depends on what your unique norm is
Have you had your Thyroid & Iron levels checked?
These are 2 reasons which have caused me severe fatigue
Wishing You&Yours all the utmost very best 💚🫂💚

Endorewitch · 29/03/2026 23:26

Not normal. I am twice your age and can manage an hours walk without being tired later. Not a fast walkof course. You are under the weather .

Sallywag134 · 30/03/2026 09:20

Well I am 52 this year. On Saturday I did a 5K run and a 5k up hill walk on treadmill. On Sunday I did a 7K run and 5K walk up hill, took 90 mins Saturday and a little longer Sunday. I do this most weekends on an empty stomach and I feel great afterwards- once I’ve eaten anyway. I do remember when I first started though and would often need an afternoon nap but I’m over it now. Keep doing these long walks regularly and you’ll start to feel the benefit in no time.

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 30/03/2026 10:32

I'm guessing you'd also been;
Up fairly early
Parenting your child
Doing bits around the house etc
Sorting out food.
I think if you'd had a lie in, not done anything at all and it was literally just the dog walk that was tiring, then yes that's unusual. My experience of being a mum is that we don't even realise we are always on the go, there's always a child needing something, the dishwasher to be emptied, a bit of tidying etc etc. As a result I'd say I'm always tired by late afternoon.
If you're worried try a multi vitamin, check you're getting enough iron, vit d (especially the UK this time of year) try supplements like magnesium and track your sleep - if its still continuing I'd go to the GP. However, I suspect it's just life catching up, permanently not getting quite enough rest, down time or sleep.

Pasta4Dinner · 30/03/2026 10:35

I go to the gym a lot, do cardio, classes. If I went for a walk and the air was cold that would wipe me out! If it was warm i would react very differently.

BooBooDoodle · 30/03/2026 10:57

We walk our dogs for about 2 hours a day mid week and more of a weekend. I find the fresh air lulls me into relaxing after an evening walk but unless I’ve had a busy day on top of that, it doesn’t tire me out. We walk 2-5hrs a day, varied routes.

LieLowLulu · 30/03/2026 12:06

@Whattimedoyoucallthisthenheyyou Are you okay and did you find the replies helpful?

I'd suggest you check in with your GP if you're so tired after a walk of 1 hr.
Fresh air can be 'tiring' but in a good way.

How far do you usually walk each day?

Whattimedoyoucallthisthenheyyou · 30/03/2026 14:23

Hi all,

Sorry for the late reply!

So, I do have low ferritin-14 apparently and have been on iron tablets for a few weeks but don’t feel a change yet?
I also have kidney stones a lot.
Sat here at 2.20, feeling like I could nap, but can’t as pick up soon
So far today-Made breakfast for Dd, school run, Ddog to the beach-walk for maybe 30-40 minutes. Did a small food shop, few tidying bits around the house, did planning for the Easter hols, paid online bills, just sitting now, but tired 🤷🏻‍♀️
Wonder if it’s the iron, kidney stones, peri…?
I do need to lose some weight too
