Just heard this in live interview with Defence Secretary.
Apparently they can reach us in 4 hours.
Are they lying??

It is illegal because their use of force is a violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and customary international law, both of which the US and Israel are bound by. Use of force in self defence is available for tightly defined reasons. A war started by countries who can't even articulate a clear (unchanging) reason for it, does not fit within the 'self defence' exception to the prohibition on the use of force. Many of the actions amount to war crimes (targeting civilans, children's schools, power plants) under the Geneva Conventions.

This is the system put in place after the second world war to "to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and.." (UN Charter).

Nope. Even the attacks of iranian funded and controlled houthis and hezbollah on israel would be causus beli. Let alone the existential threat Iran poses to israel, its stated aim is to destroy the country.
You don't get to say youre going to wipe a country off the map and then get surprised when said country stops you getting the means to do so. Its self defence.

BelBridge · 26/03/2026 17:05

Of course it is. Let me guess: another “existential threat”?

Do you also think the IRGC treat their own people well?

BelBridge · 26/03/2026 17:07

balabusta · 26/03/2026 16:58

No, you thought wrong. Hamas was and is a serious threat to israel and its civilians as shown by 7/10. But that's not exostential. I mean, they gave it their best genocidal shot but were not strong enough.
Same for Hezbollah in Lebanon and Syria.

You seem to be consuming a lot of propaganda, you should consider expanding your sources.

Of course I am, if it’s not Israel-approved it’s propaganda isn’t it?

BelBridge · 26/03/2026 17:09

Isn’t it strange that I have not actually ever said what I think of IRGC but you seem to be determined to get me to say something-why is that? What do you need from me to make your arguments work?

IncessantNameChanger · 26/03/2026 17:10

I was reading last week that yes in theory they can (Iran) but it needs a smaller war head and less accurate over that distance. Look it up on the BBC I think it was.

Lots of people could bomb us. That's just a unpleasant truth.

No they wouldn't. They don't justify an invasion.

Why don't you just post 'we don't care about international law' and be done with it? it would save a lot of back and fore.

No answer. I’d say it’s strange but it’s not surprising.

That the war is illegal is the prevailing consensus among international lawyers across the world. Look up the blog posts on the European Journal of International Law website, if you like. I get that you don't like it or agree, but don't distort the law to establish your point. Your point is political not legal.

balabusta · 26/03/2026 16:03

Laughing at the stupidity of saying war is illegal becuase it is 🤣

I have noticed that when there's no substance to the actual argument, it does tend to move on to faux outrage at style.

Yet evidence has been given by a credible institution
despite the fact a war criminal with an arrest warrant out on him doesn’t like it
Well diddums

The use of laughing imojis on a thread such as this is more an indication that a poster has Nothing concrete or factual on the subject and merely seeks to put down other posts
It doesn’t work

Netanyahu said he'd wipe Palestine off the map in September 2023 at the UNGA
By your standards does that mean they had a right to defend themselves and attack ?

Who knows if it's true but Fuck Trump is all I can say. Said it earlier too when I got petrol. Just fuck him.

Not just Trump. Think about who has been pulling his strings.

No, of course not.

It's like when Netanyahu says 'from the river to the sea'. It doesn't count.

Labelledelune · 26/03/2026 17:46

I don’t think we’ve got enough weapons to shoot them down with the state of our armed forces.

DuchessofStaffordshire · 26/03/2026 17:49

Liesmorelies · 26/03/2026 13:14

The regime is appalling but the way this has been done is irresponsible to say the least and isn't going to solve anything. It's made a volatile situation even more dangerous from what I can see.

At least Putin is benefiting from it.

KnowledgeableAvocado · 26/03/2026 17:50

Fgs. They don’t exist. There’s zero evidence except for a statement from the Israeli government, and the very weird and suspect Diego Garcia turn of events.

its dodgy dossiers, David Kelly etc all over again. It’s so obvious and to be fair most people are seeing through it

All of our defence is now concentrated on this rather than a ground army, so we probably do.

I hope so but from what I’ve been reading our defences are not good.

I thought because they had hired missiles that reached a certain destination that it could also reach us. I just hope the Persian people get the freedom they want from a tyrannical regime.

What we have is outlined below. We do have a gap in anti ballistic defence atm

What do you mean by hired missiles?
What news outlet is this news of long range missiles from ?

Israel obliterated the terrorists in gaza.

And what of the Palestinians in the West Bank?

AStonedRose · 26/03/2026 18:17

DuchessofStaffordshire · 26/03/2026 18:09

No, it killed tens of thousands of children.

there were probably some terrorists in there too. The thing is, bombing a hospital (for example) is a fairly blunt in instrument. And collateral damage is inevitable in war, isn’t it?

Nope....in the western world there are a tiny handful of surface to air missile systems that have a demonstrated capability to engage ballistic missiles in flight, namely the SM-3/THAAD, and some variants of the Patriot system,

The UK has none of those.
