Ambulances Set on Fire in Suspected Anti Jewish Attack

Horrible news that ambulances run by a Jewish charity have been set on fire in Golders Green today.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwyj1p49gdpo

AIBU to feel it's got to to with the rise in anti Jewish hate since the allowance of horrible slogans on the weekly marches and in everyday society? What on earth makes people commit such a horrible attack.

I'm 100% with the Jewish community and pray for peace.

Some people would twist themselves into a pretzel rather than acknowledge any attack is motivated by antisemitism.
Oh, and it's not "in the mix". It's the motivation.

I acknowledged the attack is motivated by antisemitism. But what’s more likely to have increased the risk of attacks on Jewish communities right at this moment? Antisemitism in general or the wars being waged by Israel? Both, but as I’ve said, Israel has brought the world to an incredibly dangerous moment and that’s what we are dealing with here, to bring it back to the OP.

It's an antisemitic attack.
By people who hate Jews so much, they would actually torch ambulances.
All the ifs and buts don't excuse or diminish that.

Sorry but you’re strawmanning here if you won’t countenance the argument that Israel’s wars are dangerous for the diaspora as well as for the world.

ScarlettOYara · 23/03/2026 15:00

I grew up in the 70s. This very much reninds me of the attitude towards girls and women who were assaulted and raped. She was "asking for it". She was "dressed provocatively". She was "out late at night".
The blame was often transferred to the woman or girl, somehow, she had to be complicit in the acts against her.
The ultimate being the police, at the time of the Yorkshire Ripper attacks, suggesting a curfew for women.
Rather than for men.

So, only Israel's wars? Only the Jewish diaspora?
Last time I checked, there were loads of wars.

Israel has stretched the term ‘defence’ enough to make it meaningless. If attack is defence, war is peace. They are bombing people in tents, where does it end?

Nobody has credibility on here, it’s just another thread on this subject on this platform with the same circular arguments as all of the others.

Well, it ends when you stop seeing a conversation about an attack on ambulances as an opportunity to state your opinions on a country a couple of thousand miles away.

The attack was in the UK. The problem is in the UK. Any solution has to come from the UK. Israel is just a convenient deflection away from a UK based problem; racism against UK Jews has been rising rapidly and is becoming violent.

It’s “so stupid” that’s what you took from my post. If you read the posts I myself have been replying to its, to people who have said that they basically don’t wan’t Islam in the UK and my opinion is thats wrong. I haven’t denied extremism or extremists. Of course people can talk about the problems that it bring
s but some people, I’m sure you will agree use extremism as a way to be Islamaphobic and some people use Israel/Netanyahu to be anti-semitic and they think that makes it justified

Don't be so dishonest in your reply.

You quoted me and replied to me in particular to ask if I thought all muslims were violent. That question was to me. So stop trying to pretend you were just talking about people who don't want Muslims in the UK. Because you were talking to and responding to me, with my post quoted, and all I have talked about is the problem of violent anti-Semitism in sub sections of the muslim community, because that is a real thing and it is a problem.

Asylum is supposed to supply safety from such conflicts though, not offer an opportunity to carry grudges across the globe.

And Jewish UK citizens are not participating in bitter and terrible conflicts, they are trying to live a peaceful life in their country and in this case providing ambulances.

I don't disagree

Er, yes because that’s kind of what this thread is about. There are major world events linked to this at the top of our news. We can discuss Somalia if you’d like?

Talk about straw man! 🤣
I'm looking to see if there are arson attacks on any US charities here...

ScarlettOYara · 23/03/2026 14:27

@KTheGrey - your first paragraph is spot on. Like the teacher upthread, I have come across increasing antisemitism in secondary schools. The worst I have personally been aware of has been from two brothers, who are Syrian refugees. Yr7 and Yr8.
This was not anti Israel or anti Zionist. This was full on Jew hatred, which would have made Goebbels, or Julius Streicher, proud.

I mean, that should result in immediate expulsion from the UK

ScarlettOYara · 23/03/2026 15:10

EasternStandard · 23/03/2026 15:09

It astounds me that you actually need to say this. Unfortunately, you do.💐

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/03/2026 15:11

Why do you think that it's up to religious bodies to provide ambulance services

I don't, @broccolibiscuits, but I was responding to the assertion that churches wouldn't have the funds should they have wished to do so

I know. It’s been claimed by an Iranian group, still to be confirmed.
If you were implying that Muslims are ‘the people’ then I’m not going to engage with Islamophobia. Agree with whoever said the thread is rife with it, I’m sure antisemitism is also represented.

I mean the people who set fire, how many three of them? Not deflecting on to Jewish people.

PurpleThistle7 · 23/03/2026 15:24

Well this thread went as expected. Just to bring it back around.

  1. Assuming everyone here lives in the UK, none of us actually live in Israel so we can only work with things we can control here.
  2. There are many, many wars going on all over the world. Only one results in people of a religion associated with that country regularly being shot / stabbed / blown up / having their places of worship blown up / destroyed / whatever.
  3. The hate marches and hate events and hateful slogans about globalising things led to... things being globalised. This is what that looks like and I hope everyone who marched and yelled and felt pleased with themselves thinks about that
  4. My children and I are not safe here in the UK for absolutely no reason. We have done nothing wrong and have actually been great citizens, students and workers here. Whatever is happening elsewhere, it would be nice to feel as supported in real life as I often feel like the majority supports us on here. So maybe if everyone on this thread who wants to be an ally just reaches out or donates a few pounds to rebuild one of the various synagogues or ambulances or schools cleaning up a mess or sends a text to a Jewish friend / colleague to be supportive and kind that would help push things back a bit
  5. Jews and non-Jews alike have the rights to any legally protected opinions on any topic. We don't have to prove our worth by speaking out or standing with or agreeing with anyone.
