Forks are female and knives are male

And spoons are female too.
Or is it just me?

I also think letters and numbers are gendered and some of them have quite specific personalities. Eg. Both G and H are older matriarchal women.

I am aware I am coming across as an absolute loon.

Wednesday is orange. Thursday is red. Friday is green

Applecup · 22/03/2026 19:32

Mummyratbag · 22/03/2026 18:59

No, but Monday is pink.

Noooo it's white. I see words in colours too.

NigellaDelia · 22/03/2026 19:33

Soup spoons are pregnant women

Serving spoons are giants

And never leave empty coat hangers together overnight . . . they will breed and you'll be inundated with millions of them

P.S. Days of the week follow the colours of the rainbow ~ Sunday is red, Monday is orange etc

Applecup · 22/03/2026 19:34

Monday white, Tuesday blue, Wednesday white, Thursday pink, Friday brown, Saturday green, Sunday yellow.

mumuseli · 22/03/2026 19:34

I love this!

GoldenCupsatHarvestTime · 22/03/2026 19:35

I mean you’re basically going off what cutlery has indents or no indents there. Hardly mindbending.

Well, this thread is proving to be catnip for MN’s synaesthetes. It’s fascinating seeing how much you all disagree about the colours for days of the week.

weird. I gave my cat catnip just before I read this and it freaked me out!

yellowgecko · 22/03/2026 19:38

Spooning leads to forking. Does that make them male?

TheKittenswithMittens · 22/03/2026 19:40

takealettermsjones · 22/03/2026 19:00

Well, in French, you are correct ☺️

But not in German

When cats are sitting up with their tails tucked in, the word "town" is created.

Auroraloves · 22/03/2026 19:41

Circles are female squares are male

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 22/03/2026 19:42

Not all knives are male or forks female as it depends on the cutlery set

Monday is Pink
Tuesday is White
Wednesday is Green & Red & Blue depending what mood he's in
Thursday is Turquoise
Friday is Purple
Saturday is Gold
Sunday is Silver

TheKittenswithMittens · 22/03/2026 19:42

In German knives are neuter, forks female and spoons masculine

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 22/03/2026 19:42

Monday- slate-blue
Tuesday- orange
Wednesday- greyish blue but brighter than slate
Thursday- brown
Friday- bright red.

The colour of the first letter of a word determines the overall shade, but every letter has got it's own colour.

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/03/2026 19:42

In the Terry Pratchett book Snuff, Sam Vimes' son's imaginary friend doesnt like Wednesdays because they smell funny.

I concur.

Wednesday is red in my eyes. And I like it when Christmas falls on a Wednesday - it feels right.

Yes!!! I have always felt that Wednesday's are red. I think the knife & fork gender is a thing (as many posters agree) but I'd forgotten that for years.
Thank you for this thread 😊

According to my grandmother who was very superstitious, if you drop a knife it means a man will visit, dropping a fork means a female visitor and if it's a spoon you'll be visited by a fool. So you're not far wrong Smile

This threat of unexpected visitors is going to trigger anxiety in half of MN.

But they can always just decline to open their front doors.

Well, cats are girls and dogs are boys, so…

I thought this as child too.

Nibbits · 22/03/2026 19:52

Mummyratbag · 22/03/2026 18:59

No, but Monday is pink.

Nooo, I've always had colours for the days of the week and for me, Monday is royal blue.

BertSymptom · 22/03/2026 19:54

Thursday is brown for me and so is October. They give off the same energy. Weirdly I don’t get strong colours off all the days and months but I’d say both Tuesday and April are yellow.

I do tend to think of letters and numbers as soft or spikey. All even numbers are soft and odds are spikey, obviously, but letters are less simple. No use to this whatsoever I just feel the vibes I guess.

Wednesday is pink for me! Numbers have colours too!

So did I.

Nibbits · 22/03/2026 19:56

You're all wrong about Saturday, it's white.

WhyWouldYouNotWatchASquirrel · 22/03/2026 19:57

In German, spoons are male, forks are female and knives are neutral. 😄
