Forks are female and knives are male

And spoons are female too.
Or is it just me?

I also think letters and numbers are gendered and some of them have quite specific personalities. Eg. Both G and H are older matriarchal women.

I am aware I am coming across as an absolute loon.

The M3 is a greenish yellow shade. M4 is black. M1 is dark blue. M40 is dark green.
Thursday is so definitely brown.
Sunday smells of pepper.

New books, old books or newsprint?

Well, cats are girls and dogs are boys, so…

I was about to say same thing 😆

Sounds about right.

Monday is blue! Tuesday's grey and Wednesday tooo... dances

Wednesday is orange, everyone knows that.

In Portuguese, knifes and spoons are feminine and forks are masculine.

Elsvieta · 23/03/2026 19:37

You have a form of synaesthesia maybe? I have it mildly with sounds / shapes... I like it

Garfieldloveslasagne · 23/03/2026 20:12

Definitely odd numbers are male and even are female, same with dogs are male and cats are female. I am really pleased to know that I am not alone in this and that it has a name!

magimedi · 23/03/2026 21:13

Dogs are male & cats are female.

I see numbers (up to about 150) in a hierarchy

But I have aphantasia and don't see images................

The colours of the days of the week have a sort of gun metal finish to me. They have depth rather than a flat matt look. Words containing the letter R are liquid. The others are a bit dry.

LindaV · 24/03/2026 11:35

I see the letters in different colours but I think it’s because I can remember my alphabet book when very young. I agree about the knives being men, forks women, big spoons being older sisters and teaspoons being small children.

LindaV · 24/03/2026 11:42

I definitely agree about the knives and forks genders and big spoons are older sisters with teaspoons being children.
I also see each letter in a different colour but it may be because I remember my alphabet book from when I was little

That's really interesting, I see the days as colours too, but not with a specific finish!

For me Mondays and Wednesdays are dark blue, Tuesday is bright pink, Thursday is yellow and Friday is dark green. Saturdays and Sundays are variously yellow or bright pink.

I'm not entirely sure whether I have synaesthesia - I sometimes wonder if the above stems from something I saw when I started school that I've forgotten about - but I also experience a metallic taste in my mouth when I think about spiders, and certain people's faces visually evoke a certain smell for me (I know that sounds bonkers), so I think there's a fair chance my brain's not wired up in a conventional manner. 😄

Years ago I supported a child who had dyslexia and (undiagnosed) autism.
One day he said to me "everyone knows that M smells like black!"

Krautie · 27/03/2026 18:35

It‘s really fascinating reading this. I was wondering whether it might have helped with German genders, that I‘m terrible at, to actually visualise a fork as female, a spoon as neutral, and a knife as male. Though that wouldn’t work for abstract nouns.
