How much I hate Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls.
I mean (controversial) I always have. But now I hate it even more.
There I said it.
Am I being unreasonable?

I love it, but I don’t like that rolling song that @Auroraloves mentioned either

ihatecatlitter · 19/03/2026 22:12

I much prefer their song Slide, which you hardly ever hear in the UK. I lived in the states in the late 90s and they played it all the time. Far superior to Iris imo.

I thought it was just me!! It’s terrible, and the trend is terrible! It just reminds me I’m in mid life. Married with a child and a decent job but friendless and lonely turning 40 soon enough!

I could cry!

LondonPainter · 19/03/2026 22:13

@Auroraloves Proud Mary! I cannot stand it but people go wild when it comes on 🙉

absolutely not! Another 90s lcon had it bang on… Miss Cher Horowitz..

JackGrealishsCalves · 19/03/2026 22:14

I don't remember it first time round but I love it tbh

Loub1987 · 19/03/2026 22:15

I like it! Sorry all 😜

Robertplantgoddess · 19/03/2026 22:18

Auroraloves · 19/03/2026 22:07

I don’t like it either. I’m glad I’m not the only one

another song I hate which everyone else seems to love is that Rolling song by Tina Turner, not sure what it’s called

Proud mary. By Tina Turner.
It seems to have seeped into everywhere and that bloody awful dance people do.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 19/03/2026 22:18

I hate it too, I don’t like his voice and never really did but also have struggled with self harm since my teens and the song was a bit of an anthem amongst cutters with the line ‘you bleed just to know you’re alive’ and now I find the song quite cringey from that perspective too.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 19/03/2026 22:19

tequilam0ckingbird · 19/03/2026 21:37

it's awful and I hated it back in the 90s too.

I can't decide whether or not it's worse than Aerosmith's Don't Wanna Miss a Thing 😷

Oh that's easy, Areosmith's DWTMAT is a billion times worse than Iris and nearly every other song from the last thirty years!

Holiday24 · 19/03/2026 22:22

I love the song; haven't heard it for ages but I'd say it's one of my all-time faves! 😅

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 19/03/2026 22:24

I like it.

Gottogetoutofthisplace · 19/03/2026 22:27

I remember seeing them play it live at V festival many years ago in the rain, enjoying my breakfast of a warm can of special brew - great memories.
Wasn’t it the X factor that made it famous again? it’s a good song but always used over dreadful soppy videos nowadays

UnctuousUnicorns · 19/03/2026 22:29

I don't know if I know it, and I cba putting on headphones to check it on YouTube etc.

Anything vaguely ballad like by heavy rock/metal acts is always dire.

DungareesTrombonesDinos · 19/03/2026 22:33

I watch everything on mute so haven't noticed it.

However I have very much noticed Joshua Jackson and Christian Slater's "Dad what were you like in the 90s" posts and 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Yes, that is what it makes me think of - self harm. Do people really play it at weddings? The lyrics aren’t exactly romantic are they? I’m baffled.

Oreoqueen87 · 19/03/2026 22:38

I don’t hate it anywhere as much as I hate What’s Up by 4nonblonds. Vom.

Honourable mention to Blind Mellon’s No Rain

DoubleDoubleDown · 19/03/2026 22:38

I'm going to see Good Goo Dolls tonight. I'm only going because my friend got free box tickets from work. It's the only one of their songs I know. Hopefully some of their others are a little more upbeat.

Heylittlesongbird · 19/03/2026 22:47

I don’t know them, or the song. Im just hoping it means it’s the 90s equivalent of ‘if you can remember the 60s you weren’t there’.

Gingercar · 19/03/2026 22:48

Haha, I can’t stand it either, never could. These vain “what were you like in the 90s” video’s don’t help! And City of Angels was deathly boring.

Hope the concert wasn’t too dire @DoubleDoubleDown, although going off their only hit any of us have heard of, it probably was dire.

Hellohelga · 19/03/2026 22:49

tequilam0ckingbird · 19/03/2026 21:38

this is the problem, it's overplayed, especially at weddings

Dreadful song. So many 90s songs way better than this.

ThatCyanCat · 19/03/2026 22:50

ihatecatlitter · 19/03/2026 22:12

Slide and Broadway are way better.

Iris isn't bad but it's just the same few bars on repeat all the way through.

Ah, so teen, so angsty!

QueenofFox · 19/03/2026 22:52

even though I grew up in the 90s, I didn’t know the name of this god AWFUL song. That and Aerosmith. It does sound so 90s but there’s so much better music to choose from

Tintackedsea · 19/03/2026 22:55

I know that I shouldn’t like it because I certainly didn’t at the time and it’s not my kind of thing at all but it’s so redolent of the time and I’m utterly addicted to watching the videos. I miss the sense of possibility and excitement and it all stretching out ahead of me. For various reasons (not least the intervening 30 years!) my life doesn’t feel like that now.

i also miss being a size 6-8 and consequence free drinking, smoking and dancing until 5!

DoubleDoubleDown · 19/03/2026 23:00

@Gingercar- haven't been yet, it's only 4pm here. Had a lovely trip on a seaplane to get here and the hospitality at the concert is free so even if the show is crap it's still a win Grin
