Foul language on here.

AIBU to expect people to use less foul language on here. I’m put off by people using c , f.
Im not a prude and believe me there is many a time I’ve used the F word in conversations but wouldn’t dream of using it on here and never the c word.
Edited as deleted the asterisks - obviously doesn’t like them.

Your expectations are irrelevant, unless you’re Horatio Nelson.

Thereissnowinmywellies · 15/03/2026 11:59

Each thread on its own merits, a lot of bitchy posters can fuck right off for a start.

AgnesMcDoo · 15/03/2026 12:00

Don’t be such a fucktrumpet

Not how I talk, online or in life, but each to their own. 🤷‍♀️

To all of you swearing on this thread I rest my case.

I agree. Puerile and predictable.

FurForksSake · 15/03/2026 12:02

Gently, kindly, I’m pretty certain you’ve got the exact response you wanted. There’s little that gets more attention other than a live affair uncovering or a mil calling someone fat than telling people what language to use.

Itiswhysofew · 15/03/2026 12:04

Posters can swear if they want to. It's not up to anyone to sensor speech on here. Even articulate people swear from time-to-time.

ThatCyanCat · 15/03/2026 12:05

OhDear111 · 15/03/2026 11:16

I agree. Not being able to articulate an argument and resorting to swearing diminishes the point being made in my view.

I know this is the standard line, along with "if you make any personal attack da da da" but it's not actually true, is it? Sure, if you can't think of any other comeback at all, but it really is entirely possible to form a solid argument that still contains swearing or "so there, fuck you". And sometimes a post or argument is so obviously, plainly, objectively stupid that it doesn't warrant five paragraphs of legalese in response; it's just self evidently stupid and can be treated as such.

What actually marks a person out as having no counterpoint is when there's a post that clearly does form coherent arguments, but also includes a frustrated "for fuck's sake" or even "you twat"... but they ignore all that to home in solely on the swearing and insults and attempt to reduce the argument down to just that. That's one reason it's better not to (swearing in context is fucking fine though), but it isn't actually true that any insulting post automatically has no other value.

TwistedWonder · 15/03/2026 11:28

Oh God yes - an incorrect their/there/they’re/your/you’re bother me far more than swearing

Or using loose for lose really grinds my gears 😬

So 'put off' that you're still an active Mumsnet member OP?

This is like smacking yourself on the head with a frying pan and complaining you're being smacked on the head with a frying pan 😳

ohfook · 15/03/2026 12:08

I quite like it. I’m have to speak politely and professionally at work and at home in front of the kids I don’t swear so it’s nice to have an outlet for my sweary side.

Brilliant. As usual first reply nails it 🤣

Fuck sake it wasn’t the first reply

mbosnz · 15/03/2026 12:12

Hope for? Fair fucking do's. Wish for? Absofuckinglutely?

Expect? No silly fucker of a cunt should bloody well be doing that. . .

Atatwalker · 15/03/2026 12:13

Oh dear

sunsetsites · 15/03/2026 12:14

I can’t imagine being this easily offended.

Thing is, you are unimportant and what you think is unimportant.

Same for all of us. None of us as individuals really matter on here. Just strangers passing some time.

If anyone doesnt like it and never visits again, nobody would notice or care.

Thats the nature of the internet

Exactly this. Frankly, OP, no one gives a toss if you’re offended by swearing. You don’t matter to a bunch of anonymous strangers.

You have two options. You can either accept that MN allows swearing and get on with it, making your own choice to not swear, or you can decide you can’t accept it and leave. There is no option three where people or the site’s policies will change to suit you.

UniquePinkSwan · 15/03/2026 12:25

It’s only words.

RosesAndHellebores · 15/03/2026 12:32

Back when MNet were surrounded by fields and we had MeetUps: Mrs Danvers, BIWI, FrankWhippery, Hearts, Zombie, BBB, SolodGoldBrass, You bad bad kitten, Porto, HullyGully, GetOrf, Dancing, etc, somebody had a shedload of "Atrocious Cunt" badges made. Those were the days.

@Lemondrizzle4A I do see where you are coming from and the gratuitous fould language IS off but used with humour, or in the right context, I think it's OK.

cubistqueen · 15/03/2026 12:32

PeopleLikeColdplayYouCantTrustPeopleJez · 15/03/2026 11:23

I think it depends on the subject matter. Discussing whether Portugal or Spain is a better summer holiday and swearing like a sailor is a bit weird and unnecessary.

Discussing what a nasty sack of shit Nigel Farage is and I think fucking and cunt are perfectly acceptable words to use.

Is it even possible to talk about Nigel fucking Farage without using the word fuck?

It's his middle name isn't it?

I find people who get offended by mere words utterly fucking insane tbh.

more insane than the cunts who try to police other adults language.

and think people who think swearing is a sign of limited intelligence are utter twats!

oneofakindmultipack · 15/03/2026 12:49

I don't like it, either, but starting a thread about it is pointless. These threads only go one way, and you'll never convince anyone who doesn't already agree with you.

DungareesTrombonesDinos · 15/03/2026 12:50

What in the fucking cunts do you mean?
