Foul language on here.

AIBU to expect people to use less foul language on here. I’m put off by people using c , f.
Im not a prude and believe me there is many a time I’ve used the F word in conversations but wouldn’t dream of using it on here and never the c word.
Edited as deleted the asterisks - obviously doesn’t like them.

To all of you swearing on this thread I rest my case.

Thing is, you are unimportant and what you think is unimportant.

Same for all of us. None of us as individuals really matter on here. Just strangers passing some time.

If anyone doesnt like it and never visits again, nobody would notice or care.

Thats the nature of the internet

RobinInTheCrabApple · 15/03/2026 11:32

Westfacing · 15/03/2026 11:31

I don't mind the odd fuck used here and there - it can add emphasis!

But have to say I can't bear to see the C word written down - like the N word it looks and sounds so ugly

Sometimes though, it is the only word that will do.

Foul language on here.

Ah right you prefer hearing it 😁

no, can’t be St Patrick’s day!

no celebration in Ireland without a liberal sprinkling of feck and cunt.

I think you mean 'cont' 🤣☘

Fuck yes.

😂

Too many foul-mouthed cunts on here, that's for sure.
Most unladylike

I think you meant to say too many fucking foul-mouthed cunts didn’t you? 🤣

Flannelfeet · 15/03/2026 11:36

Im fucking sick of reading shitty language.

Keepingthingsinteresting · 15/03/2026 11:37

PeopleLikeColdplayYouCantTrustPeopleJez · 15/03/2026 11:23

I think it depends on the subject matter. Discussing whether Portugal or Spain is a better summer holiday and swearing like a sailor is a bit weird and unnecessary.

Discussing what a nasty sack of shit Nigel Farage is and I think fucking and cunt are perfectly acceptable words to use.

YABVU to compare Farrage to cunts, that’s an insult to cunts. They’re much more attractive than he is, as well as being life giving, non judgement and not hypocritical ( they will clam up if they don’t like you.

You are also being unreasonable @Lemondrizzle4A , if you swear IRL you have no grounds to be offended, and it’s well done that people who swear love longer and have a higher tolerance for pain 😂

SevenYellowHammers · 15/03/2026 11:37

I agree with OP. I love a good swear . Malcolm Tucker is my hero. But I only swear when I know for sure that my audience are as foul mouthed and appreciative of swearing as I am .

FadedRed · 15/03/2026 11:38

Fibrous · 15/03/2026 11:24

Don’t ever go on holiday to Ireland.

🤣🤣🤣

Brilliant. As usual first reply nails it 🤣

That wasn't the fucking first reply, arseface 😉

First it's suing a bookshop for selling a graphic novel with a bare bum in it, now it's No Swearing Please.

Did Netmums shut down or something? What are these delicate flowers doing among the Vipers Of Mumsnet; are they lost?

I love a creative bit of cussing. Cockwomble was one of my favourites from here.

Agreed. Your user name is the bollocks BTW.

MN fits that, swear away!

Branleuse · 15/03/2026 11:40

I don't really find swearing offensive tbh, especially if it's not used aggressively at someone.
It's a normal part of life and it's just a normal part of mumsnet culture.
Theres lots of message boards that don't allow swearing, so it shouldn't be too hard to find somewhere less offensive

Petrolitis · 15/03/2026 11:40

Lemondrizzle4A · 15/03/2026 11:19

To all of you swearing on this thread I rest my case.

What do you mean rest your case?

You've proved absolutely nothing other than you wish to censor other people's language and that your OP simply isn't as entertaining as the inevitable sweary responses.

takealettermsjones · 15/03/2026 11:43

DameOfThrones · 15/03/2026 11:25

Oh NO!

What's going to happen now you've rested your case?! 😱

🤣🤣🤣

TwistedWonder · 15/03/2026 11:44

Fibrous · 15/03/2026 11:24

Don’t ever go on holiday to Ireland.

Or come to London where cunt a term of endearment

Shithotlawyer · 15/03/2026 11:45

I am genuinely interested OP in what bothers you about swear words. Can you try and articulate what the problem is beyond a feeling of surprise or shock on your part to hear or read them? Is there a moral issue, or do you simply feel they signal such strong emotions they distract you from the meaning of the comment?

The N word is a word I would never use or countenance because it relates to the inhumane and disgusting treatment of one group of people by another. Some people in the group who have been harmed sometimes choose to reclaim it and I can appreciate that.

The C word is a way of insulting someone by saying they are a vulva. While historically this has been a terrible shocking thing to call someone, I can understand why women might want to reclaim it, so I cannot get upset about its use.

The F word is fairly prevalent today. there is literally a small chain of coffee shops called Fuckoffee. I wouldn't use it in front of children because it relates to sex but why would an adult be upset hearing it?

Perhaps try and think about what the issue is with your reception of those words - if you continue to focus on the speaker and policing their production, you are unlikely to convince anyone.

Lemondrizzle4A · 15/03/2026 11:47

RobinInTheCrabApple · 15/03/2026 11:26

It's all going to improve OP because Mumsnet is bringing in a new No Swearing policy on the 17th March 2026.

See you next Tuesday.

I thought it was Cambridge United Netball Team. Silly me.

Or scotland where its every second word out our mouths 😆 🤣

Thepeopleversuswork · 15/03/2026 11:50

Sorry but no deal. I spend more than 16 hours a day being falsely polite to people at work or restraining myself in front of my daughter.

Fucked if I am also going to censor myself on a board that is literally designed for adults to have frank and uncensored conversations.

BunnyLake · 15/03/2026 11:54

People love using the c word on here. I’ve never been in any real life situation where it gets used as much as on here. Even other people’s kids are called it.

Westfacing · 15/03/2026 11:57

RobinInTheCrabApple · 15/03/2026 11:32

To all of you swearing on this thread I rest my case.

What case? That people swear? So fucking what? You don't have to like it. It's just part of the English language. People don't call eachother cunts etc on here anyway. They use it in frustration or to be descriptive of something annoying.

Changepassword · 15/03/2026 11:58

What the fuck, a cunt is a cunt and no other word will do.
Now, if hubby and holibobs starts sneaking in, then I'll be offended
