MOTHER'S DAY IS RUINED!

Oneandanotheroneistwo · 15/03/2026 08:18

(Lighthearted... sort of). DD (4yo) proudly presented me with a box of Heroes and some flowers this morning that she chose yesterday. Lovely. Except.... THERE WAS ONLY ONE CRUNCHIE IN THE BOX. ONE. JUST ONE.

AIBU to think Cadburys are taking the mick?

Does anyone else want to share their lightheaded mother's day disappointments?

My poor brother is a season ticket holder at Spurs..... he has the pleasure of watching them lose on a regular basis.

I bought flowers from DD and was going to take the cost from her pocket money but now I can't bring myself to. So I bought my own mothers day present. The flowers are nice though.

I didn’t wake till 740 which is a massive lie in for me. My 6 year old told me he was letting me sleep longer as my gift.
Also got breakfast in bed from 10
year old. Feel very lucky to have them

drhf · 15/03/2026 10:32

Our 1-year-old presented me with her handmade card and painting, and as I was extolling their beauty, she snatched them back while shouting 'Mine' and trying to scratch bits off them.

We gently explained that even the greatest artists can have trouble letting go of their work, and took them off her while I distracted her with a book.

Happy Mother's Day everyone!

My DC are grown up and live away from us , I’ve had cards and some lovely biscuits , and I’ve been advised to wait in for a delivery ( looks outside and quite happy to stay in )
DH and I have just had a snigger remembering when DD at about 7 years old made toast and jam for Mother’s Day breakfast , but spread homemade beetroot chutney instead
To be fair , it was in a Bonne Maman jar

Oh no 😭. Please eat the breakfast! Hope the atmosphere revives itself. I'm sure I would have reacted the same way BTW 😂

Edited

Aw thank you so much that makes me feel better! I’d gone to bed late and just didn’t have the wherewithal to control my first reaction. Yes it’s all been clawed back, we fried the cold poached eggs and toast and they were even still runny in the middle. Result! She’s all pleased with herself again 😅

You win the thread so far 🤣

We live on the NC500 route and had a dad and his two children come to the door this morning and ask if they could have some daffodils from our verges for their mum. They’re parked up in a camper van not far from our house. It would normally have enraged me people picking my daffs but in the spirit of Mothers Day DH climbed the verge and sent them off with a bunch tied with baler twine. If you’re in a camper van from Northampton with two children whose names start with a C and a D enjoy your daffs 🥰

That’s really lovely of you. And they were lovely to ask.
i hope those are the best daffs ever

DH offered to make me a bacon bacon for breakfast. I was so happy until I smelled the stench of fake smoke flavouring which makes me retch. He said, 'Oh I didn't know you don't like smoky bacon.' We've only been married 30 years and had that conversation about 100 times. And he had toasted the bagel until it was brick hard. I had to chuck it out for the birds and make my own egg bagel instead.

Still, DS2 is coming this afternoon and we are baking a cake together. The day is not lost.

LemonLymanDotCom · 15/03/2026 10:38

No kids, but I do have a dog who sleeps in bed & woke me at 6 this morning by treading on my bare nipple as he tried to snuggle closer.
Sigh

Brentford season ticket holder here… Spurs are rotten and totally wasted Thomas Frank (and a whole string of more managers).
My Mother’s Day so far: lie-in after getting in very late last night from a show, dog walked by DH who brought back pastries. Coffee in bed, kid had a cuddle & is tidying her room & is taking me out for dinner later this week.

My DD made me scrambled eggs with cream. Squirty cream she found and the back of the fridge. Left over from Christmas 🤢

😂😂

I checked my DDs school bag for letters etc on Friday evening and found the home made card she had made for me

I've had my lie in ruined by a million WhatsApp notifications of people wishing us all a happy mother's day.

A genuine joke, I don't need anything. My kids give me so much more than they realise already, although I think I might have stumbled across a large box of Maltesers that just might be mine and I won't say no!

This 100%

I’m getting a lie in as DS is away with Scouts and DD is out- so that’s nice!

It's Jane Austen!

Not even Austen…
A recreative piece by Janice Hadlow.

GardeningMummy · 15/03/2026 10:50

Try being a single parent (who didn’t choose to be a single one, I might add) we get nothing, not even a break from mummy duties for the day!!!

DinoLil · 15/03/2026 10:50

I have two adult DS in their late 20s. One went NC 6yrs ago so nothing from him. The other one is laid back but lovely and thoughtful. For the first year not a card, not a text, not a call. We don't live close to each other so I know I won't be seeing him. Bit disappointed.

JayJayj · 15/03/2026 10:52

Haven’t slept properly due to hip pain and insomnia. The right side of my face has been swollen since yesterday morning. I’m tired. My husband made me a cup of tea in a mug I use for soup as it’s too wide and cools my tea down. I need my tea boiling. It was not.

I got a nice new cup and some chocolate though so silver lining.

The cat has bought me a Molton Brown travel bag filled with mini shower gels clearly aimed at men. Dark Leather or Tobacco Absolute, anyone? I suppose he didn’t know any better… 🤣

Of course he knew, typical cat behaviour. He likes manly smells so you should oblige him by smelling manly. You may think it's Mother's Day but he knows it actually cat day, like every other day of the year. Worship him.

Why did he go NC? That’s awful

Motherscanbefuppers · 15/03/2026 10:57

My 16 month old snagged my Loro Piana cashmere scarf with his shoe 🥲

My eldest is now 33. When he was about 7 he made me Mother’s Day breakfast in bed. Coco Pops and a cup of tea….. I thought it was only slightly warm, turns out he’d used the hot water tap to make said tea.

enjoy these days ladies as one blink and they’ve families of their own.

Very very true

How old are your children? Are they of an age to support them to be able to ‘give’?

PinkScot · 15/03/2026 11:03

I’ve managed to upset DD1 2 and 3 and my mum by going away and currently in a super king 5 star bed listening to the Caribbean waves lapping on the shore with DH. Yes I didn’t check the dates when I booked it 7 months ago 🤣🤣🤣. As penance I’ve said they get a free pass this year from cards and presents!

ps I love the crème egg ones send them here

Oldraver · 15/03/2026 11:04

I've just had smoked salmon and cream cheese on muffin

I had to send DS out for the salmon as he'd not taken the hint (detailed convo) we had recently 😅
