Just because they are fizzy doesn’t make Prosecco and Cava ‘fizz’

Fizz is Champagne. At a push Cremant. It is not Prosecco which although it is slightly fizzy loses it pretty much immediately.

Moreover it tastes like baby sick and, for the price, anything else is better.

Agree with you about Prosecco but Cava is lovely. Very dry and big bubbles. It doesn’t give me the instant headache that champagne does for some reason.

TheKittenswithMittens · 14/03/2026 23:04

It's all just alcohol, water and carbon dioxide.

SabrinaThwaite · 14/03/2026 23:18

It’s Prosecco col fundo or sui lieviti and it’s DOCG. Hard to find though.

Don’t forget about Asti, too, from Italy!

Thank you, did not know this! Will have to scout it out Wink

Somebody bought us a bottle of sparkling Shiraz for Christmas…..Jesus it was foul. Not relevant to the thread really but I’m just reminded of it.

I’m a snob. I know that.

However. Recently I went to a party where the the host said ‘bring fizz’. So I brought Champagne.

I was offered Prosecco.

How does a girl even start to process that?

Probably best you turn down all future party invitations in case you're met with this horrifying situation again.

2021x · 14/03/2026 23:51

I assert that fizz is sparkling wine, and bubbles is exclusively champagne

I’m taking Babycham next time fizz is requested.

SideshowAuntSallyxx · 15/03/2026 07:02

Can't stand prosecco. English sparkling wine is nice though.

givemesteel · 15/03/2026 07:19

You obviously don't know that much about wine, OP.

Cava is made in the same way as champagne.

Prosecco is made differently.

I don't disagree with you about prosecco, it's usually disgusting. But there's plenty of decent cavas and cremants out there for around £15.

Westfacing · 15/03/2026 07:39

Fizz and Bubbles - usually means just cheap Prosecco

I like Cava - my fizz of choice 😄

travailtotravel · 15/03/2026 07:48

I don't like prosecco, its terrible stuff. Cava qualifies though as it's production method is similar to 'fizz' and it has multiple grapes which give it the flavour depth.

ZenNudist · 15/03/2026 07:59

I'm struggling to see why you'd post such judgemental bollocks.

You don't like prosecco, fair enough, tastes differ. It is however Fizzy.

If you turned up at my party and insisted that only champagne would do I'd think badly of you.

And, as a guest, I’d think pretty badly of my host being so judgmental.

When served with dinner, you break a piece off and butter that piece. You don’t butter the whole roll then eat it.

I do if I want to 🤷🏻‍♀️

ilovemeahack · 15/03/2026 08:19

A bottle of bubbly = a bottle of champagne
A bottle of fizz = a bottle of prosecco/cava/other sparkling wine
There you go darlings, my definitive guide 😉

In their defense it is a subject to be seriously considered. I mean, it’s not like there’s much else of note to worry about in the world at the moment. Now, as never before, is the time to lay into a person for a Saturday night thread of Prosecco themed hatred.

I mean if I’d said what I really think of
people who equate it with Champagne…….☠️

Champagne-French sparkling wine.
Cava-Spanish sparkling wine.
Prosecco-Italian sparkling wine.

So if someone uses the word “fizz” to denote a sparkling wine, they are correct as they all “fizz”!😁

See, I know this. But I still think of Cava as being low alchol / sweet / a bit nasty. I've had Cava. I like Cava. But for me it will always be in my head as a low alchol low cost Babycham equivalent.

WonderingWhatWillHappen · 15/03/2026 09:27

Prosecco is not one homogeneous drink... You get nasty ones and delicious ones. Sweeter and drier. Cheaper and more expensive. I find it bizarre that anyone would write off a whole type of fizz through sheer snobbery.

People know that a lot of champagne's appeal/cost is in the marketing and gatekeeping, right? Like the De Beers diamond market was.
