Just because they are fizzy doesn’t make Prosecco and Cava ‘fizz’

Fizz is Champagne. At a push Cremant. It is not Prosecco which although it is slightly fizzy loses it pretty much immediately.

Moreover it tastes like baby sick and, for the price, anything else is better.

You see for me when someone says fizz I immediately assume it will be Prosecco and wouldn’t think of referring to champagne as fizz!

JuliettaCaeser · 14/03/2026 21:54

Another cava fan here. Especially drunk in Spain

Zov · 14/03/2026 21:56

Mate, Lucozade is 'fizz.' 😆

likelysuspect · 14/03/2026 22:00

It just doesnt come up to muster as a tasteless, sugary imposter to Namplagne you're right.

I wish more places did Cava, it tastes infinitely better than Prosecco.

I agree. Cava has much more flavour. Prosecco just tastes of, er, fizz.

Couldn't agree more. I still remember a particularly grumpy woman I had the pleasure of working with. It was a part time job while at Uni. The way she went on about M&S bucks fizz "in a bottle" that she received as a gift. Apparently she had never seen it "in a bottle", and how could one not make it from scratch, who actually "drinks this garbage", and "how dare" this be given as a gift to her. At 20 I stood there in utter disbelief that this middleaged woman could be so irrate over a bottle of bucks fizz. This was a staple at Christmas for my family! The 39 year old me wants to go back and say, "Well if you don't want it, hand it this way!"

I am with you about the tiresome grumpy woman. But I am with her about ready mixed bucks fizz. It's really not very nice.

bigsoftcocks · 14/03/2026 22:20

M&S did a clementine one years ago that was quite nice.

elderly relatives of mine used to cater a Christmas morning brunch. They bought twenty bottles of premade bucks fizz, and put in an amazing spread. If anyone had the poor manners to comment I would have quietly asked them to leave!

ExOptimist · 14/03/2026 22:29

Fizz to me is along the lines of plonk for still wine i.e. cheap stuff.

I would have been very pissed off to have been served prosecco when I'd brought champagne. Actually no one I know would serve prosecco, it would at least be a decent cremant or cava.

The word itself isn't as bad as bubbly, or even worse, bubbles. Makes me think of a bunch of screaming women on a hen do, wearing sashes and drinking out of penis straws.

SabrinaThwaite · 14/03/2026 22:31

If you hunt around you can find Prosecco where the second fermentation takes place in the bottle rather than in a tank.

BunnyLake · 14/03/2026 22:32

Unless it’s Bolly I’m not interested.

SuperGinger · 14/03/2026 20:23

Anyone who says bubbles and fizz should just stop it's so naff.

Quite. Prosecco is utter crap - carbonated wine. The postmix of fizz. Cava or Cremant are much nicer. A lot of Champagne is overrated and you're paying for the name.

I would not comment either, I would drink it and thank them. But still. Much better made fresh.

Dashling · 14/03/2026 22:43

Anything fizzy is fizz.

Some Prosecco is nice, most isnt.. The problem is that it became very popular very quickly and a lot of people wanted to cash in.

AgnesMcDoo · 14/03/2026 22:50

Any sparkling plonk is fizz

SunshineAndSandalsMakeMeHappy · 14/03/2026 22:53

Buy a soda stream, fizz any wine to your taste. Job done.

TheRuffleandthePearl · 14/03/2026 22:54

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 14/03/2026 20:25

I'd say everything but champagne is 'fizz' - it's shorthand for sparkling plonk.

This.

StarDolphins · 14/03/2026 22:55

To me, prosecco is fizz!🥂

Very interesting - I thought prosecco had to be produced by the charmat method to get the DOG?
Do you mean sparkling wine (fizz!!) with glera produced via the traditional method? (Would that still be prosecco though?)
