Total embarrassment now.
Is anyone ever going to get a grip on this?

Has anyone become nervous or their children about going to school?

There was one the other day too. Boy was injured.

Teenage girl stabbed at school, police say

Officers were called to Thorpe St Andrew School, near Norwich, on Wednesday morning following reports a girl had been stabbed.

It's absolutely awful but why is it embarrassing?

lunar1 · 11/03/2026 12:41

Embarrassing isn’t the word I’d use.

Babsandherwabs · 11/03/2026 12:41

Embarrassing would not be my choice of words tbh.

FernandoSor · 11/03/2026 12:42

If you think this is 'embarrassing' you need to have a word with yourself. It's not England going out of the World Cup in the first round ffs.

IceStationZebra · 11/03/2026 12:42

I think “fucking awful” or “devastating” would be my first choice of describing words

luckylavender · 11/03/2026 12:42

Embarrassing is not the right world

Hotandpointy · 11/03/2026 12:43

Embarrassing?!
More like horrifying in my opinion.

cardibach · 11/03/2026 12:43

I, too, am confused abput ‘embarrassing’.
It’s really very rare, which is why it’s news - this doesn’t make it less terrible, obviously, but it’s not something anyone has lost a grip of. I started teaching in the late 80s. There have been infrequent stabbings and attempted stabbings throughout that time that I’ve heard of.

jen8556f · 11/03/2026 12:43

I think we have a parenting crisis in this country.

Jc2001 · 11/03/2026 12:44

Embarrassing? I can only assume that English isn't your first language.

MigGirl · 11/03/2026 12:46

The thing is what was she stabed with? The article doesn't say. Kids will and can get hold of a lot of things that could be used to stab someone with. It could be anything from a sharpened pencil to a screwdriver.

I'd only be really concerned if they had obtained a knife or scaple (yes we use scaples in school for science) from school itself.

I wouldn't be embarrassed.

SilenceInside · 11/03/2026 12:46

Yeah, agree that embarrassing is an odd choice of word.

I am not at all nervous about my child going to school and this incident doesn't change that in the slightest.

I hope the girl is not badly injured, the report says minor injuries which hopefully means a quick recovery at least physically.

I think the country has become an embarrassment over stabbings.

A good way of looking at it too.

Yes of course, that too.

Could you explain more by what you mean by “embarrassing” and how you think knife crime could be addressed?

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 11/03/2026 12:51

I find it deeply disturbing that anyone's first response to this story would be one of embarrassment. What an odd way of looking at it.

Not shocked at all. We have a generation who have been raised to do as they please. There is punishment at home nor at school. We have made our children entitled. They truly believe nobody has the right to chastise them.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 11/03/2026 12:53

Perhaps @Netcurtainnelly means ‘shameful’. They’re similar words. It’s a disgrace that our DC are attacking each other in schools.

That said, when I was a teen 30-rrghum years ago, a friend’s arm was broken during an attack by bullies. Kids have always had the capacity for violence. We weren’t armed, though.

MissFancyDay · 11/03/2026 12:56

Oh good grief why is there such misunderstanding of the Op. Of course a stabbing of a school child is devastating and all the other words. It really doesn't need to be said and I'm sure that those were the FIRST thoughts that the poster had.

But this post is about the embarrassment that this country should have over these things happening. Although I would probably have used the word shame.

It’s not a problem unique to this generation though is it? I thought rates of stabbings were coming down. Maybe that’s just London.

I guess teachers are the one to ask. But schools seem much more chaotic than when I was in school 20+ years ago.

Definitely, and more teachers leaving.
