To think Facebook has dropped off a cliff lately?

Usage has been declining for a while but I've noticed this year hardly any of my friends post anymore, even the most prolific ones have cut right down. This has resulted in me hardly bothering anymore - what's the point if noone's reading? I've only posted twice since Christmas and the thought of doing so almost makes me cringe.Really not a bad thing imo. However, the groups are still very active so I'll keep it for them, I really like how most of them will let you post using a nickname now which I really like for privacy....

Complaining that nobody posts on Facebook, whilst saying you don’t post on Facebook any more. 🤷‍♀️

I don't post on Facebook anymore because no-one posts on Facebook anymore 😀

Thanks for all the comments. I know my friends are bearly posting because I check Feeds, then Friends, and I'm lucky if there's a handful of posts a day and then it's mostly the same 3 people sharing memes I'm not interested in. I've noticed some people post more to stories which are easy to miss and of course disappear if you don't see them at the time. It's now full of AI crap & click bait which has turned me right off.

I keep it as a diary to look back on but I guess I can just look thru my Google photos! Will keep it for the groups and may update my status occasionally for the few distant friends/relatives I keep in touch with that way but otherwise its definitely had its day! It was good while it lasted.....

The website itself is badly made and frequently breaks, has been involved in some very dodgy stuff (Cambridge Analytica, moderation failures helping fuel a genocide), and makes a horrible, rich man even richer.

When I open it up these days, most of my feed is not people I know, groups I'm a part of, or pages I follow. They're random pages and people.

That said, I still seem to open it multiple times a day! It's useful for keeping an eye on relatives and putting out big announcements. Most of my family didn't know I was pregnant until I posted a "hey I had a baby" post. The groups can be useful, for example there's a Tokyo Mothers Group which has helped me meet new people and get items I needed.

But I wish I didn't use it.

Bikergran · 08/03/2026 08:39

What I find is not that my friends aren't posting, but the FB feed prioritises ads and random posts or reels from people/pages I never heard of. If I look at a friend's profile, often there are masses of posts I've never seen. Like you, I mostly use it for the private groups.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 08/03/2026 08:59

the problem is the suggested posts. Ads are one thing, but the suggested posts full feed (probably to cover up how few normal people are posting) means you can’t easily see when someone you know does post. Insta lets you snooze all suggested posts, Facebook makes you snooze individual ones or have a feed just of friends (but that filters out groups). It would be an easy fix to make it usable again.

it clearly works for the boomers though.

SideshowAuntSallyxx · 08/03/2026 09:10

I've had to click ignore on the same suggested post on Facebook several times. Not sure why I want to read some random post about how great Dubai is from some random I don't know.

Just because I went on holiday there a few years ago doesn't mean I want to read some 'influencer's' post about how safe they feel with drones flying over. It's the same post almost word for word as several other posts I've seen.

Facebook isn’t what it used to be for sure.
I was called a racist white bitch by a young black American man recently. This because I commented on a news article about a black actress. Nothing nasty or to do with her colour. My response? I told him he sounded nice and would he mind if I sent him a friend request. That shut him up 🙂
I know I should have probably ignored him. This is probably why so many people can’t be doing with it anymore 🤷‍♀️

averylongtimeago · 08/03/2026 12:26

I used to enjoy Facebook years ago- keeping in touch with widespread friends and family. Some advertising, yes. I could follow a couple of newspapers. Fine.

Now? I never post, only use it for marketplace and a number of interest groups, which are active and busy.

I absolutely hate the way the main feed is full of AI shite, political crap and dodgy ads.

Argh567 · 08/03/2026 12:31

I left about a year ago as it had become enshittified and like you I wasn't seeing anything from my friends, just lots of random stuff. I don't miss it at all.

Instagram was going the same way, so I left that. And had left Twitter a good few years ago. So it just leaves MN and LinkedIn, which works for me.

Netcurtainnelly · 08/03/2026 16:32

The reels are awful too.
They show you, sick and deformed people. It's violating.

hollytheheroic · 08/03/2026 16:46

The whole things is just adverts or people o have not followed showing on my feed anyway. It's ridiculous.

Berlinlover · 08/03/2026 17:06

I have a very rare form of cancer and find the two Facebook groups that I follow very helpful.

Totallybannanas · 08/03/2026 17:42

I only use it for groups and events. I have become a bit of a hermit, so don't go out as much anyway and half the people I have in there wouldn't say hello if we bumped into each other.

lindyloo57 · 08/03/2026 18:08

I came off a year ago, when my daughter in law fell out with me because I didn't like enough of her post's,

Mykneesareshot · 08/03/2026 18:08

They always said Facebook would be tomorrow's MySpace, I never use it now. Actually I don't post anywhere anymore, I read and be nosy!

Bobibbsleigh · 08/03/2026 18:12

It’s just full of Rage baiting ‘influencers’ & advertising now- it’s become useless

MrsF111 · 08/03/2026 18:48

My Instagram and fb are linked so anything i post on Instagram auto posts onto fb. I would probably get rid of it but do use some groups and my grandparents and some other older aunts/uncles are only on fb and I know they like to see updates. I find though if I ever scroll on there it just comes up with horrible news stories and is quite anxiety inducing! As in lots about child death or abduction etc with I have young children. So I only really go on it to specifically look at a group. If I’m going to scroll I use Instagram. Stayed away from tik tok as I want to reduce my screen time and Instagram is bad enough!

Captcha4903 · 08/03/2026 18:52

I need to stay due to membership of two social groups but otherwise it is like a mausoleum. Too much political culture war content for my liking.

Cathmawr · 08/03/2026 18:54

I'm 35 and deleted Facebook 6 years ago. My life is much happier for it! The only bit I miss is marketplace, but my husband let's me look on his if I'm after something 😊

rc22 · 08/03/2026 19:19

I've never posted on it or used it to keep in touch with people. As others have said, it's a good source of community/local information.

OohThatCat · 08/03/2026 19:41

I find it useful for groups and seeing what’s on in local community but I don’t use it for posting anymore. I find the problem is wading through all the guff on Facebook just to get to the useful groups. I can’t see a way to filter the gibberish out and just focus on groups!

Jumpingthruhoops · 08/03/2026 19:43

Facebook has been naff for a while. It's all about Instagram and/or TikTok now.

BootsandCatss · 08/03/2026 19:43

I haven’t even logged into Facebook this year, the last time I went on was to wish my daughter’s gran a Merry Christmas and thank her for our presents, the time before that was maybe October? The app was deleted not long after new year.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/03/2026 19:55

I use it only for a charity craft group I make items for, and the ‘ordinary’ FB stuff, daft talking dogs, baby elephants, wildlife posts, etc. I waste far too much time looking at those.

ruffler45 · 08/03/2026 20:24

Every 3rd post being an advertisment is not helping and shows what FB priorities are. I for one has never bought anything from a FB advertisement so what is the point? How many millions feel the same way?
